  • This is fucking hilarious and I loooove their line readings and my god do they shine here so this is really NOT the video to say ”aaaAAAAAAAAAARGHHH BUT BUT BUT HE IS A TENOOOR!!? THE WORLD WILL END AND I AM HAVING A HEART ATTACK AND MY DOG WILL DIE”. It’s irrelevant to this particular number I think. You can cry to your mom about that instead.
    I do not own this audio!

      Mezzo-soprano is not appropriate for this role, no matter how good she is. Written for contralto for good reason, musically.

      @@kaelws48 I am a contralto myself, and I'd say it just brings something different to the role. The voice is just a little different and it gives a slightly different tone to the performance, but it's a perfectly valid casting decision and I'd say a mezzo like Sutton can still absolutely nail the role.

    Let me preface this by saying I LOVE Aaron Tveit. I really do. He's one of the most amazing tenors on Broadway!! But, this is a baritone role. The way Josh Groban's voice stands out in clear contrast to Mrs. Lovett, its gravitas is important for this role. No matter how much growl I hear Aaron doing, he sounds like a tenor. I still love him, though.

    I keep hearing people complaining about Sutton Foster's Worst Pies In London. But, other than sounding a bit too much like an Angela Landsbury impression, I didn't think it was bad at all. THIS, on the other hand, is an absolute disaster. A vocal train wreck. She is actually FLAT through 2/3rds of the song! It's physically painful to listen to. And Aaron Tveit, who I normally love, just sounds like a kid playing Sweeney in a high school production; high, thin, reedy voice, little interpretation, and an accent that comes and goes and isn't right even when it's present.
    Based on the audience reaction, I have to assume they're doing a lot of physical comedy that's working. But auditorialy, this is just a hot mess.

    I don't mind a tenor in the role, gives the character a softer side. I saw Michael Ball as Sweeney and he was incredible. The only thing with Tveit is that it feels he hasn't settled completely into the character yet. He's a bit too precise with his singing, but I'm sure it will pass once he "lives" in Sweeney long enough.
    The only "major problem" is that both of them haven't decided what English accent to use and don't commit to one, so it's a bit confusing.
    Overall I liked it, especially because Sutton Foster is so dominant here that it highlights who the real villain is.

    • @asnalelo.165
      @asnalelo.165  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      When you say his singing is too precise do you mean that he sounds too ”pretty” or that you think he seems to care more about the voice than the acting of the singing? Because there have been plenty of pretty-voiced Sweeneys (Panaro, Stokes) and I do think Aaron throws in grit, especially in Epiphany. But I’ve heard from a few that he’s definitely growing into the part so I’m not disagreeing with you on that aspect.
