Joanna Carpenter is singing the Beggar Woman. Joanna is a vacation swing who does NOT cover the role on Broadway but stepped in at the very last second with no real rehearsal so the show could go on. Love this show so much. Have tickets for the last Josh and Annaleigh performance. Love the s song choices Wish Josh did Epiphany my favorite song in act 1. Amazing chemistry. My third time can’t wait.
This is wonderful and the clear chemistry between Groban and Ashford has enough power to light up Broadway. Everyone does such precise and lovely vocal work, it’s a pleasure to experience this trimmed down concert & appreciate their artistry. I love the positioning of the original Sweeney Todd Broadway cast recording behind Groban. This is very much a tribute to Cariou’s, Lansbury’s and that cast’s legendary work and I’ve been loving and listening to both.
As someone who has watched the Sweeney Todd movie with Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter close to 200 times in her life, but never seen the actual musical, I wondered how I would react to this. It's hard to replace what you think of as your favourites and the "only ones" who can do it (I'm aware that a movie musical is completely different to a stage musical!). However, I was positively surprised. I wasn't able to pull my eyes away. I LOVE Annaleigh as Mrs. Lovett. Her voice is incredible, and the things she does with it just adds more to it. And Josh Groban, an artist I only remember "grown ups" listening to when I was a child, is an excellent Sweeney Todd. I hope NPR will bring more musicals to their tiny desk in the future! This was a delight to watch!
I KNEW Josh would be a splendid Todd, he is such an absolute treasure ❤ and Annaleigh has clearly paid attention to Patti LuPone's performances 😊 her voice is beautiful, too!

I could listen to Josh Groban forever.
Also Maria Bilbao is so incredibly talented. I'm so glad she's on the 2023 recording
I will never stop regretting not seeing the show when it first opened 😢 thank you tiny desk for a taste of Sweeney with Josh and Annaleigh
Saw this in NYC. Loved it so much I immediately went back and saw it the next night.
This is ALL I wanted for Christmas. BLESSED
Whoever the person is who played the beggar woman KILLED it‼️‼️ I couldnt look away!
This is the best Christmas gift from NPR! I could only dream of seeing this performance, and now I can enjoy a sampling from the impressive soundtrack whenever I like. Fantastic!
I can't imagine loving this more. From top to bottom extraordinarily delightful. Been a Josh fan from go... she is a new and most VERY welcome find for me. Together they're beyond magical and surpass charming by miles. 💓💓💓
“Annaleigh is now UNDER the tiny desk…” 😂 8:32
The Joanna quartet is so great especially because he's completely slaughtering fools in the chair and dumping them down the hole during it!
The woodwinds were such a great touch.
Love this show so much. Have tickets for the last Josh and Annaleigh performance. Love the s song choices Wish Josh did Epiphany my favorite song in act 1. Amazing chemistry. My third time can’t wait.
Annaleigh is just… magnetizing.
Really caught my attention the way the TDC microphone eerily morphed into a straight razor.
It cued me to really focus on this special performance.
So happy to hear this. Shout out to our amazing animator Jackie Lay!
BASSOONIST ON TINY DESK. WE MADE IT
Such a special tiny desk!! You can really feel the love between the cast!
My first _Tiny Desk_ , but, for sure, not my last. I know the Angela Lansbury and Len Cariou Soundtrack by heart, but have this one on my Playlist now, too. Thank you, NPR, for bringing this to us. My day is complete!
SO awesome. Thank you so much. Tiny desk just consistently bringing incredible musicians across all genres, engineered and mixed to perfection, in the most wholesome and intimate way. Brings the best out this craft.
What a wonderful treat. Beautiful voices. Great orchestration.
Just fell in love with this performance, this is the next level on Tiny Desk.
I can't help it but I just end up with a smile on my face whenever Annaleigh sings her parts! I'm in love!
Definetly my favorite musical ! Beautiful interpretation ! Love seeing it in a NPR LIVE ! thank youu so much for this moment
