The great thing about Lidl is they have like a German week, an Italian week, a French week etc, when they sell specialist foods goods from those European countries.
Those bakeries are always the best part of a Lidl trip, the chocolate doughnuts are elite! Nice seeing something different from you Gaz hope youre having a good weekend
Was going to comment the same. The chocolate filled donut is very good. Had the regular chocolate topped donut the other day though and it didnt taste of anything. Definitely not as good as the filled one.
I'm an Anglo German. I've always found Lidl a notch above Aldi. Mainly due the bakery instore with its huge range and smell. Also the weekly international ranges from around the wolrld, with uncompromising quality offerings. The brochures are far syperior in layout.
Road trips are a nightmare in Wales. 20 mph zones. It’s crazy and frustrating. I’ve seen people pulled over by the plod for exceeding 25. It’s nuts. Great video Gazz.
Gaz I went to Lidl the first time in leeds mid 90s it was one man & his dog very quiet,,no English speaking customers.i was quite impressed very cheap no major brands I remember buying a massive tin of chilli Con carne 800grams or bigger not quite sure it cost 99pence the same price held for years &years bradworst sausage good value plus cold cuts.
Lidl are a top store. I am sad they stopped selling their sundried tomatoes in oil in a jar for next to nothing, but they are my main go to. Their frikadellens (sausage patties) are great with a fry up - 1 min in the microwave and little mess with lots of flavour, and a great way to get a quick sausage sandwich. Buy their own (Batt's) brand tomato ketchup. It is better than Heinz and way cheaper. They are a quality outlet.
I don’t think it matters what type of vlog you do, I’m sure most people tune in for your great personality not just the food! Was a nice little road trip. Excited to see what you bought there.👍🏼
I have a Lidl and Aldi 5 minutes away from me. Like shopping at both. Thanks for this style of video enjoyed it, please can we have some more like this at a future date. Ta. xx
Hi Gareth, a nice drive out, looks a nice town/city Kendal. It's a shame you haven't got a Lidl closer to you, but it's nice to get out, have a good weekend ,take care
It's always good to see a new type of video and looking on the map it was a fair old trek! I agree about getting outside of the four walls and getting some sunshine - a bit of the old vitamin D can't be bad🙂 Looking forward to seeing BFG tackle some Lidl products👍👍👍
Not for everyone? No, probably not - but it is for me. I really enjoy 'going with you' on your trips and seeing your part of the world. It's nice to see a bit of variety.
I’m quite abit more than hungover…but totally agree, said to the good lady nothing brings ye back down to earth better than a bald foody guy vid - Legend Gaz! 🤣👍
Lidl do certain products better than Aldi but I do prefer the Aldi shopping experience. A bit like Travelodge and Premier Inn, where one has really progressed and left the other behind. Great video though and nice to be out and about to shake off the January blues. Thanks.
Hi Gareth. That was a nice safe round trip to Lidl with a brew break. Like everyone else, I'm looking forward to seeing the spoils of your Lidl pillage and plunder. We Aussies call them an Eski too. If you're a Kiwi you'd call it a Chilly Bin. Keep warm and we'll catch up soon. Cheers 👍😀
Well done Gareth, broadening your horizons, whilst dealing with all the technology. People watch these videos because of your common sense and decency as well as food reviews. I’m in NZ and I see someone from Aussie so it’s nostalgia for us too. You can never please all the negative Nancys and moaning Martin’s. Well done. 👍
What a lovely part of the country you live in. It’s great when you take us on a mystery tour, look forward to your reviews on what you bought. Enjoy your weekend x
Thanks for taking us out for a little drive, we don't get out much so it was appreciated, to get the full effect the wife cracked open the living room window to get a through draft....☺☺
Good lord, I’ve been in that LIDL. In the good old days you could’ve stopped at the local Wimpy for a cheeky burger. Much better than a roadside burger van.
My Lidl is great but you would have to come a long way! It's in Lanzarote! Very clean and the prices are good. Only place here for wild king prawns ( not your farmed variety) Bread is delish and the bratwurst sausage. Their ice-cream is very nice too
Never been into one of those shops before or ALDI, but our Waitrose and M&S was packed last week ... and the Local Butchers too, interesting, maybe they are building too many of the lower end supermarkets ... dunno ?
Hi Gaz, Aldi and Lidl are virtually the same these days, very similar products and prices! Aldi don’t have a fresh bakery department as far as I’ve seen! We have a Lidl in my home town, and it’s always busy!
I always wondered why you shopped at Aldi, but not at Lidl. :>) 50 minutes by car - I have two within a 5 min drive (as are two Aldi) and yes, there is virtually no difference in price on most items. In fact I suspect many of the items with different brand labels on identical foods originate from the same source.....
Great fun. When we bought our current home one of the first questions we asked the agents was, how far to Aldi, and how far to Lidl? Thankfully the answer to both is less than a mile. I too have often found that Lidl is relatively emptier - which does make it a lot more pleasant, but they both have their good points.
Wow Gareth mate i thought the Lidl would be busier than that in the video i only have visted Lidl once in my hometown of Darlington co Durham and it was busier than that though my preference is for Aldi in Darlington which when most times I shop there it generally is busy for a Friday i thought the Lidl would have been busy i think the phrase coined to describe Lidl in the video would be like a "Marie Celeste lol😅i have never seen a supermarket so quiet especially on a Friday ha ha 😂
My local lidl is amaays quiet but I've been put off going in for stuff advertised on their leaflets (not just special buys, I mean food offers too) and they are almost always sold out. Really bad so zi started switching to aldi cos no1 has tine for endless wasted journeys
No need to apologise for the video! I enjoyed the change. Did you find Lidl more inviting than Aldi? There are several plus points with Lidl stores. The layout of one store often matches another branch almost exactly. The aisles are really spacious. Did you see the genuine German Bratwurst and Bockwurst in the cold meats section? Unfortunately it's a long round trip to get to your Lidl. I always try to get to Lidl on Tuesday for the bakery.
This was a nice change, just wished you would have taken us around the store,it’s interesting to us in America. The ice chest you have would be better in the boot, and with ice packs you didn’t need to worry, they will keep things frozen for quite a while.
Even the "cheaper" stores are engaging in blatant manipulation and price gouging. you did a video where you noticed aldi have been putting "im new" labels on products that arent new and ive noticed it a lot. Ive also noticed aldi has products that are actually MORE expensive than tesco. Plus ive noticed food going off before the use by/best before, especially on fruit and veg which start going soft and wilted literally overnight
Enjoyed your road trip, i haven't been in my local Lidl for ages, since the prices went up and also they are a bit grubby now. The baskets are always dirty
I used to use Lidl as it was just around the corner from where I used to work. The bakery was great I loved their cheese twists they were fantastic but they stopped doing them during lockdown and never brought them back. Lidl have a habit of stopping selling items which even the staff don't always understand because they were popular. As you say Gareth very similar to Aldi but for me Aldi has the edge. A nice video, something different but good non the less.
I know they are probably all made in the same factory but I always preffered the taste of Lidl stuff over Aldi. Just wish there was one I could get to without over an hour on the bus.
Show us more of the lakes lots of You tube viewers are at home disabled like me and enjoy this sort of video and you can stuff your face at the same time. Ha Ha
Sorry for me being me but your cold unit should have been in the boot the whole time as otherwise you're making it function worse as you no doubt had the heating on in yr car. Aldi and Lidl prices tend to be prettymuch the same...just a shame neither do deliveries 😥

Where is live, I have both an Aldi and Lidl literally next to each other. They are both usually packed out with a queue at the both the checkout and self service checkout
I like Lidl, there is one near me and it’s got good quality food, the shop itself is always clean and tidy, it’s staffed by real humans (no self-service tills), and the prices are all right. They have special offers on a Thursday, especially fresh meat and vegetables, but you have to be there early because they sell out. I particularly like what I call the “Weird and Wonderful Department” at the far end of the shop, where I can get things I have never heard of, just to try for a change. I am looking forward to seeing what you got. 😊
I always forget that to someone living in Warrington, Barrow would be like living on the moon. Everything is here in abundance, lidls and aldis everywhere.
Hey Gaz👍 different but it's good to mix it up a bit sometimes mate, good looking brew out on the road like a roving g chef😂we're all itching to know what goodies you got. Nice one buddy✌️
Great review out Gaz, always look forward to your trips out and see something different, can't wait for you to review the goodies that you bought from lidl 👌x
My goodness, Gaz... that is the absolute cleanest blue mini trolley I've ever seen at Lidl's! Here in the southwest, these things are absolutely filthy. The NEVER clean them! I love those pretzels in the bakery. They have the exact same ones in Germany Lidl's as well.
Maybe we should chip in a few pound for him to do more of these kind of trips to other supermarkets and see what’s going on. Also Lidl build him a store nearby 😊 he would be good for business 😅
Well you managed your clear the aisles, perhaps you should run a deodorant comparison test 😜 I do like Lidl although they may not have the choices of Aldi but what they do have is good & you can usually find something different, they do great Bratwurst & a selection of tinned chopped tomatoes, with herbs or chilli etc Looking forward to seeing your choices 👍
I have not tried them recently as Lidl is a bit out of the way but their pasties (packs of 3) used to be brilliant, Way superior to any other supermarket I have tried, Though as I say this was pre covid, hopefully they are still good, I just never go near the shop and a 14 mile round trip for a pasty seems a bit excessive.
@@BaldFoodieGuy I used to live along the road in Newton village so your runs out are welcome trips down memory lane for me. Have you ever tried MacSweens veggie haggis? Very tasty with lots of pepper, tatties and neeps - and a wee whisky cream sauce if you like that kind of thing. .
What ho Gareth, always love a day out,a road trip with some blinding scenery 😊 About Easter Eggs, been on sale in our local supermarket's ( all the major stores) since Christmas Eve 😢😢 Wish I were joking, but I'm not.Worth the journey to be able to shop with ease 😊 Prices gonna be pretty much the same nowadays ( high😮) Would be interesting to see the local " chuck wagons " Loved them back when i were a nipper going out with me dad in his lorry 😂❤during the school holidays. I used to shop in Lidl all the time. Their prices seemed to rise faster and further than others, and I think people noticed. Nowadays when I go there, it's often deserted. Great for bargain hunters though. I was in yesterday and got three Moussakas from their Deluxe range at 60% off. Feast for the whole family for less than a fiver? Yes please.
A video everybody was waiting for. Gareth’s first time shopping at Lidl. 😂
Look what i've got! I was shopping at - LIDL!
Hope you enjoyed it!
I certainly did!
Lidl stores in Bristol are never empty.😊😅
😊Gareth lost his cherry 🍒 at last

Yeah but in the summer there's flys in the store and they don't cover anything near us.
The pastel de nata are very good (egg tarts)
50 minute drive and stops halfway for a brew 😂. man after my own heart. 👌
I like road trips. Seeing a different part of the world is fun.
yep, me too. Especially when it's with a nice, down to earth, normal person.

Their Deluxe chunky cut oven chips are worth a go Gareth👍

The bakery is the one thing that stands out to me as being the difference between Lidl and Aldi
Some Aldi's do have a bakery like Lidls - the one at Greenwich does.

Lidl's Pretzels for 59p are supreme, proper bread with a hint of salt.

Great for bargain hunters though. I was in yesterday and got three Moussakas from their Deluxe range at 60% off. Feast for the whole family for less than a fiver? Yes please.
Yes my first time so hard to tell really
