Back in the 70's, I got a summer job at Harris's pork pie factory in Ipswich. One day they asked me to help out sorting out small pork pies destined for M n S. The problem was when they made Harris's pork pies , the machine was set to fill to the exact weight but some would be under and some over. But M n S demanded that if they said '270g', none of their pies could be under weight. So we had to weigh all the pies and only package the overweights. M n S would sample deliveries from Harris, and if any product was underweight, they would send back the lot. Not only the pork pies but the Quiches, sausages ...everything. My stepfather had pork pies for lunch for the entire summer as staff could buy the underweights for next to nothing.

Initially, I thought - SEVEN quid?! Oooooo 😲 Eck. Spen. Sive! But... a very pretty pie (comprehensively deconstructed!) and properly full. Worthy of the price, I think. Ho hum... Yet another item to go back to the Food Hall for ☺️
I'm absolutely bemused by those commenting on the price of this pie 😅Its part of a meal deal for two, currently offer at M&S and i bought the same deal yesterday and i couldnt fault what i bought. I wonder if the same people moan about the price of fish & chips from their LOCAL,£14.30 at my Local chippy.
I didn't think it was too bad either. Not many of us regularly buy from M&S, but it's a nice treat when we do. Especially if it tastes as good as he says 🤷🏽♀️ If it was a tenner, I'd think it was a p-take.
The pie that is in the meal deal is not the Tom Kerridge pie. It’s the gastropub steak main pie for 2. We had the beef cheeks as part of a meal deal yesterday which is TK and I have to say we were extremely impressed. It’s not cheap, but a lot cheaper than a takeaway.
When I reheat frozen pies I defrost in a microwave for about 6-8 minutes on 30% power (1000W) and then pop in the airfyer for another say 10 minutes to finish off. It'll crisp up the pastry without burning it and heat the filling nicely.
Your pie looks great... We get the 550g M&S Deep Filled Steak Shortcrust Pastry Pie between two, its not filled to the top but the filling it rich and moist. We have it with a Cauliflower cheese. Pie costs £5.50
I was only talking about the Tom meals to my sister yesterday, thank you for this video, it's going on next week's shopping list, love a pie here in Lancashire😋
I didn't expect to see it so full of meat, even for £7... Looking at your face while you ate it, shows why it's £7...... M&S stuff isn't cheap, but it's difficult to fault the quality...which is usually a cut above the usual high street quality. Although I sometimes get pies from the farm shop 10 minutes up the road from me. They make their own, and they cost £3, with a larger family sized one at £6. You can definitely tell the taste difference between theirs and the ones from the supermarket. And like that Tom Kerridge pie, the farm shop ones are full of meat, or whatever the filling is...
Factory made pie with Tom nowhere in sight probably costs a £1 to make. That's some mark up for M& S. Cheap cut of meat more like the price of a good piece of ribeye or Wagu steak
I tried this pie today, I had it with mash and gravy. The pie was still dry the best part was the mash and mushy peas. Love your reviews, if you get time try Asda robins pie and mash. The pie and liquor are best the mash not too good but, I add a little butter and it’s okay!
So glad you have recovered from your injuries and are back. Personally I have not tried the tom kerridge pies but I do like "pie minster pies" they are good quality
Do more M&S please, we've got a new food hall near me but nothing has really jumped out at me...I usually go to Iceland and get whatever is in the brightest packaging and end up utterly disappointed!

I like the traffic light system. We should adopt that here in the US.
Nice for a treat, everything is expensive now. You can barely get a small piece of Cod for 7 quid at the chippy.
That's true and you'd pay more than that for a pie meal in a restaurant.
You’re a long way from his pub, having dined there and met Tom K, I can say the food is lovely (12 months waiting list for a table!). But I wouldn’t pay £7 for a 1 person pie.
So it should be for those prices nothing short of perfection
I wouldn’t wait 12 seconds
4x Holland steak and kidney pie yellow label £1.56p bought large chips and carton curry source at the chippy so 4 of us at 1.37p a meal
Were not in ration times blu
Kerridge charges the best part of £30 for a fishfinger butty and NINE chips in his Harrods gaff. All of these celeb chefs are nothing but grifters if you ask me.
Marks' - Where even the expiry date reductions are expensive.
Only 9 chips 🍟 unbelievable!!! I'd be upset if it was brought to my table
Yes--I saw that in Greeno Eats review recently.
Couldn’t agree more……but at the end of the day it’s the muppets who worship these grifter chefs and pay these ridiculous prices. This is just another example of our ridiculous modern life…….people spending five figure sums on kitchens, bookshelves full of grifter chef books ,do they cook noooooooo, they would rather buy this junk and then watch a “chef” cooking on tv .good luck to them.
I think £7.00 sounds quite reasonable
Does he make the fish fingers or are they Bird’s Eye?
Omg that looked amazing , your paying for quality there . I love a good pie and might treat myself . Gareth have you tried the pie minster range of pies , they are a quality pie a little cheaper but I love them .. great review Gareth as always .🤩❤️👍😍
For £7 quid I’d expect 2 of them never mind being brimmed to the top.
Like the old song ... Somewhere over the rainbow weigh a pie!
😂 Hah! Nice 👌🏽 🥧
You're looking really healthy after quitting the booze, mate! It's taken years off you! Bloody good to see! Keep up the good work, pal! All the best.
Thanks kindly ☺️
7 quid for a pie ? Not a chance mate however lovely it is. Rather have a Pukka pie for 2 quid or less.
Pukka pies are garbage.
The best supermarket pies in my view certainly Steak ones are Pieminister for £3.50 in ASDA, £4 in other supermarkets I've seen, they are great, good pastry which is not to thick, great filling, not watery like Pukka or fatty. They have several restaurants like one in Leeds, but charge over £10 for a pie, mash and side, so £3.50 is better value.
@@Miss_Machrihanish Pukka taste okay but they are full of gravy with hardly any meat, the own brand ones are better at ALDI. That looks and sounds very tasty I, ll look out for that make nice treat good review thanks 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I could have bought 43 of these if the government had not stopped my winter fuel allowance this year 🥶 🤧 great review BTW as always
Really sorry to hear that.
I'm sure you can console yourself with your cheap mortgage free housing, excellent pension and other perks old people get whilst 18-30 were left to rot by the Tories.
(Great review)
@@purpleaki06 Valid point
I will be leaving that pie on the shelf at M&S , and popping down the local butchers .
Pretty sure Bob Mortimer would be a fan. Love a pie myself. Probably my favourite food.
He's the most overrated chef along with that COOK oliver

You probably think McDonald's is a gourmet meal.
At the end of the day its a mass produced product being churned out in their thousands so £7 is a right rip off.
Yes that’s a lot for a pie but it was delicious maybe £4 is enough as it only feeds 1
Correct.
Yes agreed
You’re also paying for the fact that the ingredients list isn’t full of complete crap, like the stuff they sell in Iceland…apparently actual food costs more! Who knew?!
@@frugalitystartsathome4889that’s true , I worked where they are made , quality control second to none
I'm having a couple of scotch pies and beans for my tea tonight but I will look out for that magnificent pie!
Yum 😋
Try The Real Pie Company, you can buy two of their pies for the price of the M&S one, and the chunks of meat in them are recognisable.
Initially, I thought - SEVEN quid?! Oooooo 😲
Eck. Spen. Sive!
But... a very pretty pie (comprehensively deconstructed!) and properly full.
Worthy of the price, I think.
Ho hum... Yet another item to go back to the Food Hall for ☺️
£7 ????? That could heat a pensioner's home for several days 🤯🤯🤯
35 minutes in the oven.....another £1
Yeah just set light to it and all sit round warming your hands 🤣🤣
"The splendid magnificence of it." Brilliant, Gaz!
What makes it Tom kerridge's pie did he walk past it in the factory
I'm absolutely bemused by those commenting on the price of this pie 😅Its part of a meal deal for two, currently offer at M&S and i bought the same deal yesterday and i couldnt fault what i bought.
I wonder if the same people moan about the price of fish & chips from their LOCAL,£14.30 at my Local chippy.
I didn't think it was too bad either. Not many of us regularly buy from M&S, but it's a nice treat when we do. Especially if it tastes as good as he says 🤷🏽♀️ If it was a tenner, I'd think it was a p-take.
The meal deal is £15 now, it has gone up FOUR QJID in one fell swoop since Tom Kerridge's name was put on the packaging.
Well no denying it's an excellent pie but I can't justify paying £7 for it but then M $ S have always been robbers
Your pie looks great... We get the 550g M&S Deep Filled Steak Shortcrust Pastry Pie between two, its not filled to the top but the filling it rich and moist. We have it with a Cauliflower cheese. Pie costs £5.50
it wants to be full mate it's as bad as his fish n chips a rip off I'll stick to my 2 quid pie 😂😂
I was only talking about the Tom meals to my sister yesterday, thank you for this video, it's going on next week's shopping list, love a pie here in Lancashire😋
£7?!........SEVEN pounds 'sterling'?!!!! Even Dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask!!!
Hey, that's my line ! 😄
What a wonderful comment...got me chuckling that did! Thanks 👍
😂
It certainly was full at a very full price. I'm glad you enjoyed your M&S treat. You do make me smile 😊 👍
Sod that at £7 I can get better pie for fraction of that you paying £3 for the name
Saw the ad, seen Gareth's review. Going shopping. It's that simple. Thanks man!
You're welcome 😊
I didn't expect to see it so full of meat, even for £7... Looking at your face while you ate it, shows why it's £7...... M&S stuff isn't cheap, but it's difficult to fault the quality...which is usually a cut above the usual high street quality. Although I sometimes get pies from the farm shop 10 minutes up the road from me. They make their own, and they cost £3, with a larger family sized one at £6. You can definitely tell the taste difference between theirs and the ones from the supermarket. And like that Tom Kerridge pie, the farm shop ones are full of meat, or whatever the filling is...
Gareth, it looked better in reality than it did in the photo.
What a beautiful spécimen to behold. I could savour it from here in Canada.😊
It did look better in the photo yes
Factory made pie with Tom nowhere in sight probably costs a £1 to make. That's some mark up for M& S. Cheap cut of meat more like the price of a good piece of ribeye or Wagu steak
I tried this pie today, I had it with mash and gravy. The pie was still dry the best part was the mash and mushy peas. Love your reviews, if you get time try Asda robins pie and mash. The pie and liquor are best the mash not too good but, I add a little butter and it’s okay!
Yes, a luxury, but if it's nice, then it's worth it, cheers Gaz, 😊.
Like deployed 👍
So glad you have recovered from your injuries and are back. Personally I have not tried the tom kerridge pies but I do like "pie minster pies" they are good quality
Thank you
Do more M&S please, we've got a new food hall near me but nothing has really jumped out at me...I usually go to Iceland and get whatever is in the brightest packaging and end up utterly disappointed!
I like the fact that you can get three for twelve pounds on fresh meat and fish.
😂
Nice for a Saturday night treat now that autumn is here. Bit of mash and greens and you are sorted.
Looks really nice, but far too expensive for me
Evening Gareth, seen that pie in M and S not bought it yet, bit pricey! looks good! I will be in M and S next week to get the pie. Thanks to you! Thank you Garth for the vlog Sue
Hope you enjoy it!
According to the bs on the box, it took Tom Kerridge three years to come up with this pie recipe! These chefs are full of crap.
@davewhiteman8353 Well to be fair if he worked on the recipe for ten minutes a year it could have taken three years.
I believe if you want quality food it comes with a heftier sometimes, as you've said before often you get what you pay for. I personally have always found Tom Kerridge to be quite down to earth, like yourself. Thanks for the reaction, great work. xx
Once you've bought the pie you can only afford half a cabbage leaf to go with it,lol. Those serving suggestions do make me laugh. You look very well by the way, like you've been to a health farm.
Price aside (😮), its good to see a collaboration that works 👍 well done for reviewing this. As you've said before, if there are new foods out you got to review them 😎
Spiel says, 'encased in all butter hot water crust pastry', .....That is much the same as Pork Pie pastry....does it taste similar to Pork Pie crust?
M&S are mostly superior in their foods. But expensive. Nice for treat now and then.👍
@@ianrobert6239 M & S, Waitrose are overpriced rip offs. I find Sainsbury’s,Tesco, Morrisons far better value for money, try Sainsbury’s fillet steak it’s consistently tender and delicious.
The look on your face after the first bite Garth was a picture. Might have to try one now.
It was tasty 😋
Lovely cheap meal for all the pensioners in England m&s must be having a laugh
Yep, nice cheap meal that they won't be able to put the oven on to cook soon.
If it's mass produced we know the chef had no part in making that pie other than his name on it. 7 quid!! I could live a week off 7 quid if I had to.
@@Miss_Machrihanish I know. That's one of the most ridiculously priced items of food I've ever seen. It's not made in a restaurant, it's not got the best of the best ingredients and it's very unhealthy. Who do these supermarkets think they're kidding?
That puts things in perspective
It looks big enough to share between 2 people with some mashed potatoes and whatever veggies you like.
Also if you have soup as a starter or some sort of pud then it would be a really nice dinner.xx
Well I’d bloody buy it! For one, we have no local butcher and for two, if I made a pastry crust like that it would turn out rock hard and inedible. No one says you have to eat M and S every day, and a treat once in a while doesn’t make you a spendthrift! What really is a waste of money is that blooming sausage pie from Aldi😂
Yes, that's my situation, except I can make an edible pie crust in my sleep -- problem is, the sleep would be ruined. No pie shops or butchers of the UK sort here, and no need of family pies as a solo.
@@simonagree4070 Quite so! I envy you your pastry skills though😄
@@Dottiedolly52 Wow that sounds brilliant! Lucky you 👍
I saw this yesterday and almost bought it! I'll be straight out tomorrow and get one for tomorrow's dinner now!
Looks beautiful. Get what you pay for, just texting the shop lifters now.
That looks like one of the best pies that I've ever seen from a shop. When you first opened it you could tell it was top quality. Glad that it tasted as good as it looked. Definitely a treat though for £7. Add mashed potatoes and some vegetables to create a very satisfying Sunday lunch...for one. Might have to bite the bullet on this and treat myself to one. I do believe these particular pies are featured in a meal deal that includes a side dish, a main course and a starter or a desert dish, for £15.
It's just to dam expensive!
*Wow,that looks absolutely Spectacular- if it’s quality and plenty of it I’d buy it and this certainly looks worth it to me 🥧💯😮👌🙌*
Look forward to more foods. This was exceptional
how much !!!
Perfect timing! I saw this on TV and wondered if it was good. Thanks
No problem!
When I saw Tom kerridge pie , I thought what the hell has he got to do with pies - he is a swimmer.....then I realised I was thinking of Tom Daly ....what a d*** I am .😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Haha 👍
A little bit steep in the price but an absolute belting review as always matey, keep up the hard work and stay safe and well as always.
200g of pastry with 23% of content being meat and 90g of which is SUGAR FOR £7 ,THATS GOT TO BE THE BIGGEST SCREW IN HISTORY !!!
To be fair, it’s actually 32% beef (the 23% plus 9% dry aged beef further down the ingredient list) but I agree the price is ridiculous.
My social climbing step-nephew lives close to his pub in Marlow and has frequented his pub so often he's made himself an acquaintance at great expense, no doubt, 😂 which has always amused us! That said, it looks a wonderful pie and I would buy it.
£7 taking the piss
Have. Not seen you for ages I am glad you are well
Tom probably sells small cartons of gravy for around £5 would save you making it yourself. 😀
I'm salivating! Great looking pie.
well known yes but that shouldn't mean a ridiculous price certainly looked good and your reaction tasted good but 7 quid having a laugh but it's M&S so about what you expect
I'd have been shocked if it was not top notch from Tom Kerridge, thanks for the review.
Ill get 4 Aldi pies for under £2
So glad you’re reviewing this pie as i saw it I’m M&S the other day but the price put me off.
Kerridge makes out he is a amn of the people ...don't think he is. Its all about the buck I'm afraid £7 OMG
That looked Devine,I’m not a red meat person but I’d eat that. Thanks for thr review bet you enjoyed doing this review.❤
Over Rated Rubbish. Just get some decent Beef and follow some Menus for a Wellington. TK is the same inits as me but I am a pauper.
