Thank you so much for this. I don’t know why I’ve been sweating this swap. I’ve got a 01’ ram 1500 4x4 on 35x14.50 swampers and it’s got a 4.8/nv3500 going in it. The 5.9 magnum/46re is no bueno. (Tires were too much for it) Im planning to just do a heads, cam, intake build and I’ve been terrified to blow this trans soon as I get it in. But it’s my weekend neck breaker. I’ve got no intention of drag racing it. To work, and home occasionally and a mud hole once in a blue moon. Anyways thanks! Subscribed!
Doing Lord's work documenting this for us. I went nv4500 on a 5.3 swap and hate how slow the shifting & ratios are. Currently rebuilding a 97 nv3500 Thanks for posting
Why don't you have more subs? your video quality and content is top notch. I just rebuilt my engine and made my lq4 a 402 stroker with a SS2 cam and while I had the engine out I found out that my 4l80es torque converter is on barrowed time and I want to swap to a manual anyway. Think I can comfortably look for a nv3500 in the junkyard because this is just a street truck that wont see a clutch dump. Wish the s10 nv3500s didn't have that stupid 5 bolt transfer case pattern cause I can find those all day in the yard.
Thanks for the support, brother!! Much appreciated! I wouldn’t hesitate to put a 1/2 ton nv3500 behind most swaps after going through this little mini series!
Ive been running an nv3500 in my single cab for 7 years and 40k miles, its behind a tune only 5.3 after years of abuse off roading towing burnouts and daily driving its held up till now i have a leak at the case and the case is cracking at the slave cylinder but its still going technically lol
Great video and explanation. I’ve only found one video on TH-cam with a hemi and a NV3500 but no technical details. I’ve been debating replacing my 545rfe auto with 5 speed in my 08 ram hemi and I think your build is making way more power thank my stock 245hp engine so I think I’ll go with it now! What gear ratio is in your rear diff? I have factory 3:92 axle ratio and didn’t know if 5 speed would be a decent highway driving. Current I’m doing 2,300rpm at 75 with 295/40r20 about 28 inch tall
I have a Euro spec 82 BMW 635csi that has a Getrag 265 5 speed in as it came. Being a v8 person, the inline 6 is not an option! I'm putting a built 4.8 LR4 in it. I'm contemplating using the NV3500 as they are readily available. My question is,. What are the dimensions of the NV3500 vs the Getrag 265?
Hey watched your videos on the Nv3500 testing and I've decided thats the transmission I'll be running in my camaro. I'm planning to run the older style with the external slave cylinder if possible could you please post the part numbers for the clutch pressure plate and flywheel you used.
For sure! The clutch is a 1993 c1500 clutch max pro stage 5. The flywheel is a 1998 Silverado 4.8 v8 manual flywheel, and a same goes for the throw out bearing. Sachs 1050 flywheel and ct1082 pilot bearing. Stock c1500 throw out
@@okcJG405 it's actually really easy the cab has stamped places where you cut for the shift the nv 4500 is the same length as the 4l60 more less I used the same cross member and the same drive shaft I did use a different transfer case and made it manual too lol

3rd gear was the weak point in 4 of mine held up great long as I didn't dump it shifting into 3rd

Are you going to move the shifter location?

I’m thawing to find a transmission that will hold up on my 94 Chevy 1500 4x4
You should of keep the 14 bolt rearend
Hey in your other video you put a luk clutch in it. Were you running the Amazon/ebay 6 puck clutch in it when you went 12’s?
Yes I was running the cheapo clutch max pro clutch when I went 12.00
Well you have done it.. I am now swapping my 70F100 with a built 5.3 from a TH400 to a NV3500.
Im going to try to put one in my Buick
Do it!! Great little trans!
I got a nv 4500 in my Yukon I hate autos 😅
How do you like the shifting?!
@@okcJG405 it's awesome it's not the fastest shifting trans but it's for hauling heavy loads I want a super charger now lol
@@subarutime5089 I’m trying to figure out which manual to put in my 04 Yukon

How much hp did it handle? I’m looking to do about 430hp
I'd say the 6 l at least making 400 horsepower before the turbo and maybe between 700 to 800 after 15 lb of boost
So cammed 6L tubo. Will say the motor makes 400 horsepower and after 15 lb of boost you're probably at 800 horsepower at the flywheel.
