  • I pose a question in regard to what NT responsibilities a Pastor has that keep him from a full time job? I contend there are no such responsibilities.

I find it interesting that some have disliked this video, but failed to present just one NT responsibility a pastor has that keeps him from a full time job. But it's not too surprising since christians can tend to have so much love and devotion for unbiblical traditions and can get upset when someone comes along and points out the fallacy in them.

      Hi Stephen,
Thanks for your question. Yes, Paul was entitled to be supported as he indicates in 1 Cor 9, but the role of a gospel worker is not the same as that of a pastor. I realize people might speak of them as being the same, but they are not. Among other differences, when it came to Paul as a gospel preacher/church planter, that entails him caring for newborn spiritual babies which require a lot of time and attention, similar to regularly new born babies. That is different than an elder of a church that contains relatively more mature christians who might be in the faith for 5-10 years. The difference is that the church with more mature believers is relatively more independent.
When a woman goes on maternity leave, its understandable if she is tending to a 6 month old newborn baby because the baby is wholly dependant on her. But imagine her wanting to go on "maternity" leave to spend time with a healthy 16 year old boy. I doubt any company would be okay with that as a healthy 16 year old boy is relatively independent compared to a baby and doesn't require nearly as much attention.
Likewise, it makes sense why a gospel worker would need to be devoted full time to his ministry as he is dealing with newborn spiritual babies who are very dependent on their spiritual leaders. But not so much believers who have been in the faith for years as they don't require nearly as much attention. I plan to make a video on this at some point.
Here is an older video I did on 1 Cor 9 which might be helpful.

Didn't elders run nt churches not pastors, and they would have shared teaching responsibilities.

Hi Stephen, Thanks for commenting. From my understanding, pastors/ruling elders are synonomous. This is why Paul charges the elders of Ephesus in Acts 20:28 to take heed to the flock which is the idea of them pastoring/shepherding. So an 'elder' (older or old man) is what they were but their role was to shepherd the sheep.
"Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood."

      Hi Stephen,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. The person can work a part time job, assuming a part time job is all they needed to support themselves. I mean, if a man is retired and just wants to supplement his income, he can work a part time job. The issue is that no able bodied man should be relying on the church to be supported. He should be seeking to support himself with some kind of secular trade.
