    Fun fact: for almost every high end production that uses LED walls, VFX artists end up doing roto and replacing all of the LED wall imagery with offline-rendered CG. The only actual benefit is accurate reflections and that is why a lot of productions now simply project blue screen wherever the camera is pointed to eliminate roto in post. I attended a talk by the Image Engine guys who worked on Netflix's Avatar show. They said both the LED wall and live camera track were not good enough for delivery and had to be re-done in post.

      @LFPAnimations So true. LED is great for reflections, but unless your character wears chrome armour, green/blue screen will cause less of a headache in post. Throw in some real-time image based lighting, and you can get great results.

    Dude thanks to you n progress in 3d gaussian, i m trying to make a good looking budget indie film .. but a lot of troubleshoot n workflow need to be done. I dont have access to jetset but you do. So here is a suggestion, take most mid- ambitious or complex scens of hollywood an redo it ( like media division is doing with the killer recreation) u learn a lot personally but also u n team troubleshoot entire thing n come up with great tools to solve those issue n time wasters or wait slugs while also making the scene top notch jn virtual prod. Hi Joshua! Your content is really cool. I've been doing a lot of testing and doing some work with virtual production. I've done some stuff with LED panels using Unreal Engine in conjunction with Disguise. And I recently did some advertising films looking for a cheaper solution. And the best combination I could find was using Mars with a laser projector. In a few weeks I'll do some testing with the projector and Jetset, and as soon as I do I'll comment here. Big shout from Brazil!

      @@olesiaesenzholova2036 Okay, let's go! The projector was a Formovie Theater ultra short throw laser projector. I projected it onto a wall in the studio that was about 20 feet wide. The wall was painted with a special paint for projection. And finally, the camera I used was a RED Komodo. The DOP had a little trouble with the light because it couldn't hit the projection wall. He solved this by using a lot of flags.

    We reached out to one of the major LED Wall manufacturers a year ago - their cheapest 4K model for a 4.0m x 3.0m wall was around £150K incl. the fixtures and mixer hardware, but excludes a workstation spec or data storage. Meanwhile, renting time at many facilities start at about £5000/wk. If people want to do an Indie setup, and provided they have the space, their best bet is an LED Projector (Short Throw or, preferred, Ultra-Short Throw), with a refresh rate of at least 120Hz at 4K resolution; some exist and cost around £3200 minus the screen.

    • @JoshuaMKerr
      @JoshuaMKerr  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is very true. An ultra short throw projector works wonders as long as you have enough space.

      @@JoshuaMKerr My only gripe is I wish manufacturers had a QHD 90Hz option on all models that supported 4K 60Hz. That's really what is missing for a faster gaming mode, and it would still work great for indie Virtual Production if you couldn't afford a 4K 120Hz projector.

    Hi Joshua, I've been following what you've been doing for a while and first of all I'd like to thank you for your very inspiring videos. I'm into very similar things to you and currently my goal is to build a studio green screen setup with live preview capability. I've tried everything possible, I liked the Aximmetry Eye app very much. Totally accurate tracking with just a mobile phone without the need for any calibration, easy af. Unfortunately it is limited to the smartphone camera only, so not usable for pro use. Then we tried the retracker. And it was terribly complicated to set it up at all, so I gave up. I'm looking for something that would allow me to track with my phone so I can send the tracking data to UE and then live key via Ultimate for example. Is it possible to use your Lightcraft Jetset app for this? Or what do you think would be the best solution for me?

    I’ve seen some “home made” LED walls made by mashing together small bezel TVs (usually set vertically) and then fudging the seams so it looks like a big picture window. I suppose it’s possible to blur the images or bring in foreground set pieces to hide seams for other backgrounds but it’s gonna be tricky and might look like crap in the end. Cost - a lot more than green screen and a lot less than a real wall…

      Aximmetry is certainly something that needs a lot of patience and digging to get out of it what you want. Documentation has been spotty, but it's getting better however their lack of documenting so many items, or glossing over things that create issues, make it tough to do a whole shoot with it. Most of the youtube videos out there are 2-3 years old, however David Alexandre has done some great work on some of the advanced topics and Frustum Virtual has the best recent tutorials. Aximmetry finally created an ambassador position with them to help get their product some tutorials. Or you can give Aximmetry $5,000 for two training courses. It's a great program for the price point, however the lack of documentation hurts it badly.

    Hello Hello, I'm one of the sources for the expensive stuff! I was surprised how much of a huge fan Coffeezilla is of Aximmetry's keyer, even over Ultimatte. He's also using Mo-sys, but just for camera position tracking to load later. It's a bit over the top - Jetset Cine would be a perfect solution for the use case he's doing for like 1% of the cost
