The changes were BRUTAL and rather shocking. I applaud you for hanging in there for as long as you have. The compensation is beyond ridiculous. Kudos! Great video, very insightful!
I've started publishing on Kindle Vella, and while I totally see your points, and I agree it's got a lot of issues, I decided to stick it out for now. Mostly cause I'm curious to see what's going to happen with this and record my experiences as a new author wading into the pool. (Also I have a day job I am not planning to quit cause I love it too much so why not experiment.) I went in to study what the top authors on the fav list are doing. And wow what an eye opener. Just reading the 1 and 2 star reviews on their Vella pages gave me some insight into the tactics one has to use to get noticed (and how it ticks off readers). To be honest, if they want the site to thrive, they need to stop trying to lure readers in and fix the issues that are driving them away.
It had potential, but it was never going to be what I wanted it to be. Like sticking around in a crappy relationship. You're kind of in love, but it's not mutual.
The moment I found out about the changes I pulled out. As a slow publisher it wasn't worth it for me. I'm on Ream Stories right now. I'm happy right now still working on building an audience.
Disappointing to hear the results of their changes. Definitely incentivizing readers while alienating authors. I may pull my unfinished Vella down after seeing this; it was making pennies, anyway. This way I can refocus on the novelization. Thanks for the update!
So many companies start out okay but they can't leave it alone. They have to mess with the authors. Amazon is getting ridiculous. The same issue for artist, crafters and creatives on Etsy as well. You'll find your groove. Here's to an abundant Q4. 👏🏼
In all honesty, I'm about to pull out. There's just too much disrespect across the board on both sides. My readers hate it, I don't like that I'm being taken advantage of (let's be real, we don't get paid enough for what we do and people profit off of us too damn much) and it's just not what it could be as they don't show movement or even showcase new uploads and it's restricted only to us here in the US. There are a lot of things that I personally like, but when my readers are like 'yeah, no' then there is a massive issue for me. Massive. I wish I had gotten in on the ground floor and seen what it was then, but right now? No. I don't see it surviving another 5 years unless they make it worth the while to everyone. (Update: As of Sept 9th, I unpublished what I had on Kindle Vella.)
Yeah, I noticed this. New stories and authors don't stand a chance against the people and stories that've been there for years. The top #1 on the fav list hasn't had but one update in the last 30 days and yet it's still #1. There's no way to search for new stories and new authors. Their tag system is bollocks to be honest. I'm sticking it out for now because I'm curious, but if they refuse to learn and grow the platform, I'll likely be skipping off to other pastures eventually.
@@authorjmceli I have a second channel I’m on more than this. It’s called. DanielDoesLife. I do Walmart workouts and other things. I write and at times make art videos. I’m interested in buying your books soon.
Are you on Kindle Vella? Have you seen an impact since the changes in April? Let me know!
@@authorjmceli I’m on it but never got many views or much traffic. But I think I was not impressed. I like your story though.
@DanielReviewsStuff thank you!

I applaud you for doing this model for so long, as I certainly wouldn’t be able to keep up with it!

February was great for me too.
How have things been for you after the changes?
yeah, I don't write for free lol! Good on you.

I seem to be the odd one out in that I still love my Kindle and the KDP platform
That's a good thing! If you're enjoying it, then it's a win. :)

I unpublished my Vella story.
I pulled 6 of my stories for the same reason. I’m pulling the last one soon since they are shutting the platform down.

@@anubitebaby007 truth.
They are fully giving up on Vella and shot themselves in the foot
Sadly Kindle didn't seem like it knew how to be profitable. So, this is their attempts to find a balance at the cost of the authors. :(
@@Running2Write yup! A lot of authors are bailing, si I wonder how sustainable this new model will be. I sense another tweak coming.

Wooo!
A person needs to like writing. Not do it for the money. 😂 this service is bad and they are quitting the service by 2025
@@DanielReviewsStuff 100%. I filmed this before Amazon made the announcement. I'm not surprised.
