    Not to start anything here, but if Carter was 11 and the maid was 25, that's statutory rape of a minor. That's a crime.

    Literally don't understand why they get all down when Luka says he lost his virginity on his wedding night, especially because it's a good memory for him...but they think it's hilarious that Carter lost his virginity as a prepubescent boy to someone that was *definitely* an adult. Carter's story breaks my heart.

      I think the reason why Luka’s story got them all down was because they know Luka watch both his wife and daughter die as he cried desperately for help in a war zone. The fact that his wife was his first made them feel bad for bringing the whole conversation up because it made him think about the tragedy again, but he was gracious, informing them that his first time was a good memory, because it was with his wife.

    • @sadieyoung7397

      Well they knew Luka lost his first family in a horrible way and it was a touchy subject so of course they’re down about it good memory or not. Abby knew he missed his children and while she somewhat brought up that topic over the years she only would talk about it if Luka brought it up.

      chillidog27 Because we are living in the time of a serious witch hunt.ER wasn't shown too long ago but look at where we are.Nothing was made of this scene at the time as we now are hypnotised by the propaganda of careerist zealots trying to find fault with everything to further their careers like the media,police and the legal profession etc and they don't care what lives they wreck in the process.
      Dr Gallant said he was 14, but not much of a fuss made about that as that is the usual time or even below we all start to experiment whether we want to admit it or not.

The way Abby always had such a strong closeness and connection to Luka which drove Carter nuts. Told me so much of the love between Abby snd Luka. I was like get your girl back Luka, Abby always belonged to Luka it was obvious. He made “love”to the women he was in love with and I knew it was Abby ❤️

    WHY IS A ROOM FULL OF ADULTS/MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS LAUGHING AT THE FACT THAT AN 11 YEAR OLD WAS SEXUALLY ASSAULTED BY A 25 YEAR OLD????????

    • @theferryman4916
      @theferryman4916 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Because ER was realistic...they're telling funny stories, they don't expect something serious and when it happens they don't even realize it.......this is great writing and the fact that you (and many others in the comment section) react the way you did demonstrates just how good the writing of the show was....no black and white, no safe space for the viewer...you are involved - you are required to make up your own mind and can't just sit back and switch your brain off...

    • @NarnianHogwart
      @NarnianHogwart 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@theferryman4916 No. It's a sign that even as 'recently' as 19 years ago (when this episode aired) sexual abuse to young men/boys from women was not taken seriously at all. The ridiculous mentality that Men/Boys can't be abused by women because "all young lads would love to pull an older woman" etc It's like when you read stories about a female teacher having sex with a male student- many of the comments from guys are "why wasn't she my teacher when I was in school" etc The reaction from Abby and Susan here, the implication almost, is that Carter had blossomed early and seduced an innocent maid just trying to go about her work- almost like "Oh Carter you dog!" kind of attitude. This is wrong. Society is starting to realise this more now but Carter was sexually abused by a 25 year old woman when he was 11. The fact the show never addressed this and the fact that other medical professionals never reacted appropriately clearly shows the show writers did not think this would be classified as abuse but merely a gag at Carters expense because he was seducing the maids at such a young age like "a real man" - it's disgusting.

    • @NarnianHogwart
      @NarnianHogwart 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@theferryman4916 I disagreed with your view on the writing and what you believed should have happened based on the episode. I "Proved your point" only because your point requires someone have an opinion- which of course I do. You said it was because ER is realistic and that because the characters are having a light hearted moment they don't realise how serious the information Carter just disclosed to them is. You then say it's great writing. You go on to say that we as the viewer must make our own mind up as to the seriousness of Carter's admission and can't "switch our brains off" - Yes, I'm "illustrating your point" to a very minor degree by clearly indicating I have made my mind up that what Carter has said is serious. However I disagree completely with the rest of what you said, that it's great writing and that the characters "understandably" don't grasp the seriousness of what Carter is saying in the middle of a light hearted conversation. This isn't something that should be left up to viewers to decide is or isn't a serious matter it isn't something that they should show two medical professional characters reacting to with laughter, it's terrible writing and ER missed the mark with this one. My point was that the attitude that existed even as recently as 20 years ago- "that an older woman having sex with a male minor" was not seen as abuse/taken as seriously because of the out-dated and wrong stereotype that "Men would be up for that" - You are giving the writers to much credit, it was bad writing based on outdated attitudes.

    *IF* I remember right, they were supposed to attend a sexual harassment seminar in that building/room. The seminar was supposed to start at such and such a time, and end at such and such a time, but the person presenting the seminar didn't show up until, like, 15 minutes before the scheduled end time.
    They had all been joking around at County, and somehow Carter got caught up in it all. Even though he technically hadn't done anything, Carter was still required to go to this seminar, which is why he's so pissy here.
    Thus, the irony in Carter's confession here is really, really, really thick. I had the same reaction as a lot of you. Even though this was filmed in the 90's, rape/sexual assault/molestation WAS a thing back then, and I cannot believe no one batted an eye at Carter's confession. 😑

      Yeah the it’s the writers or something are disconnected to statutory rape and such to be honest, if this was supposed to be in fact true there should have been much more elaborated on. The writer of this episodes was just trying to be edgy it seems like and the reason why they are in one room is because of budget constraints the show had at the time.

    Am I the only person who just asumed that he was lying to win the game/the other assumed that he was lying to win and they were laughing at him because of that? Like, a big part of this episode was showcasing some of Carter's more childish traits (including his competitive nature) especially when contrasted to Kovac, and to a lesser degree Gallant, and unless I'm misremembering this nebver came up in the show again. I have a hard time believing that they'd have this as part of Carter's backstory and barely bring it up except for onew bit that could be written off as a tasteless joke.

    • @Olithepoet
      @Olithepoet ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don’t think he was lying. Throughout the show they mention Carter has a thing for older women, I think this line was also put in here to explain that. The girls are laughing but Carter seems uncomfortable in this scene. I think it actually was just a tasteless joke they put in to be funny but it didn’t come out like that was at all. This episode was here because of budget cuts too I beleive, so it makes sense that it was just a one off line they never mentioned again. Sadly.

      Why do you hate Luka?

      Luka is impossible to hate. That man has the biggest heart known to man and very traditional and brought up in a way that is very classy compared to how the others were. He’s the ideal dream guy, great looks sexy accent and a great heart. It’s why it broke mine to see him go through so much and have people he loved taken away from him. Carter is a huge jerk and treated Luka like crap for three years. Despite all of carters bs towards him he never stooped to his level which made him even more of a class act. Although Luka had every right in the world to be a dick to Carter, he remained kind. Carter was an entitled rich jerk who needed to be knocked down a peg or two. Wasn’t until the Congo he grew up a lot.

      @@sadieyoung7397 Not sure exactly why I hate him. Hate might be a strong word but its the one I'm going with. Could be the actor. Could be that he is one of those characters that you are suppose to like without reason (in my opinion). He has a tragic backstory and you're suppose to feel for him(dont get me wrong. I do) but its not enough for me to like him. Plenty of characters have tragic backstorys. You called Carter entitled and thats what I feel Luka is. Carter isn't perfect and sometimes I want to hit him over the head but thats why I love him. Him not being likeable all the time is what makes me like him. But to each their own
