  • I haven't made one of these in a long time, so here is a complete ride around the RRVT in probably a little better quality than the last one that was put up. Grab a coffee and enjoy the trip!

I live on a 140 acre farm & have always wanted to setup my own little railway on it like yours. It'd be so cool to use when I'm baling hay & need to move them up to the barn which can be about a mile away from the furthest hay field. Load up the bales on a couple flatbed cars & haul them up to the barn. Return empty & repeat. Use it to transport logs, soil, & just play around on.

When I was a child, my grandparents had a big garden with a river in the back. They lived close to the montain so there was a lot of wood available in any shape and size. I built too with friends couple of meters of wooden railway with cool curves on the river side. It was very cool stuff...

I would like a house that resembles a railway platform with a track and an empty rake stationed . It would have a signal , a station office and a place to rest and a kitchen. For dinners we can have them in the rake. There will be a little garden too. How wonderful to theme your house like a railway station. I'm 48 but the childhood fascination with trains still lives inside me . I still gawk at trains when they pass by. And I love to read the newspaper on a railway station. So much bliss.❤

So very interesting, tiny railroad. Ever consider a Halloween “scream park” theme? Vampire, mummy, werewolf, Freddy Cruger jumping out, going boo to passengers. Might be able to get local club, organization to provide actors to play parts. With a bit of promotion it might make some revenue. The insurance/liability thing may be a hassle.

In my case, the Leverett is after a town, not a last name, but still neat! No railroaders in my family unfortunately, but I’m fond of the railroad that used to run through the western side of the town. It was the CV until 1995, but the last train to call at Leverett was c. 1940 I think. The old station grounds don’t show much of a trace of what once was, but its not too hard to tell something could have once been there.

I'm out on the farm/country on 4 acers, so it CERTAINLY is not gonna be as big as yours. Yours almost reminds me of the amusment park in DENVER, Colo, (Lakeside), their PASSANGER train has about 8 coaches, but it goes around a lake, the length of track from station to around the entire lake is about 3/4s of mile long I'd say. And boy do I love it.❤️ Nice layout you go!!😉, Thanks for sharing this with me,😁👌😉👍

What an incredible little railway. All credit.
Just seen another video showing the loco and with the overhead and bell,it seems more tramway orientated than strictly a train.
In fact over here in the UK they had many industrial "tramways" that had locos/ trams just like the one you were driving, called 'Steeple Cabs".
One local to me ran coal trucks along a passenger tram road line to stock a coal merchants yard.

    I should sue you !
I was so exited by your train ride that i foolishly stand up from my couch and was zapped by your 250 volts overhead catenary !
    Wow...i´m still mouth foaming.
I´ve seen steam, gaz engine, battery powered...but overhead ? Never !
I´m on my knees. Superb trackage. Those complaining about it have no idea how labor intensive it can be. Add to it the struggle with fallen branches on the wire...with a lovely 250 of juice...
The use of turntable for the ride is genious. Some very sharp curves and switches, short wheelbase with tiny diameter wheels, and good speed on straight track...
Now i must stand up from the floor, sit and watch it again.
    70 years of hard work...
May be i just dream it ?

If I might suggest, you might want to consider sourcing out an old garden tractor mower deck, mount it on its own rail wheels, power it with an old electric (possibly 24 volt diesel starter) motor, and use it to vacuum up the excess leaves and other organic debris from off the track. You could compost the debris and then use the compost wherever needed.

I've thought about this and may do something similar, those leaves just trap moisture in the track and don't help the tie life. Perhaps a jet engine mounted on a flat car would do the trick lol

@@CNW4145 a walk-behind gas-powered leaf blower turned to blow forward mounted on a flat car would also work fairly well. I've seen it done in 1.5" scale. What gauge is this anyway? My guess is 15"?

Would love to have a railway in my garden, might have to have something a bit smaller scale but still able to ride on!
    My garden is only 30ft x30ft 🤔😊

Just so you know, borax is a wood preservative if you're using untreated lumber for ties. I've been treating some old exposed porch railings with it by sprinkling it on dry, then just let the rain wash it in.

I enjoyed viewing the complete circuit again after a fair number of years since the previous one. From the video, it’s difficult to get a sense of the track gauge, would you mind sharing? Also, from your years of experience, would you say it’s still more economical to use electricity as the energy source vs. fossil fuels? (Factoring in maintenance and repair of lines and poles?

    • @CNW4145
      @CNW4145  3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

It is 24" gauge. Electricity was chosen as the power source as this line was built with the intent of replicating actual trolley and interurban operations as accurately as possible. Would I do it again even without this as a factor? You bet!

    • @FinalFront

@@daniellafferety4025 No economic return is generally true with most hobbies. Not saying all of them, coin collecting for instance has the potential to generate return, but most do not. Boating, target shooting, hot rods, traveling abroad, etc. There's a guy in my area who purchased a 3.1 mile long rail line from CSX along with a 1955 diesel switcher locomotive. There's one factory at the end of his line that he occasionally transports cars from the main CSX line 3.1 miles away so he makes a little money on it but no where near enough to recoup what he spent. He bought it for his hobby as he's interested in railroad & history. He wanted to buy the whole line which was originally 24 miles long, but he could only afford the 3.1 miles.

How long did it take to build this. This is awesome. I want one. My dad who passed in 2012 built model railroads. H.O. gauge and the smaller I believe were N ? His whole life. He loved train's. I wish he were alive to watch these videos. He would have loved this. He took us kids on a few different train rides in Upper michigan yrs ago. Long one's too. Through forests. Some were used for logging but they were Really small gauge trains. It's cool that these smaller gauges were used for real work Lots of memories.
