Reminds me of when I was a train operator in Dallas for DART. I was the 1st train to leave the yard going North to N. Carrollton/Frankford Sta and since I was the 1st train, I was tasked with doing an inspection of both track & OCS. If any problems or defects were spotted I was to report them to train control. Speed was limited to 45MPH, which we called "Sweep Speed". Actual posted & ATP speeds were as high at 65mph. Love the channel & videos!!
Great video. I like your little speeder. Love to see more details on its construction. Also have an idea after watching your video. Take your speeder, add a leaf blower or two and mount them to your speeder. Then you can blow the leafs off your tracks as you travel along. Just an idea
Here is another one for you… if you get lots of snow. Put a set of railroad wheels on a snowblower and sent it down the line. In the summer and fall, replace the auger with a brush and sweep your tracks clean. Yea, I tend to think a lot.
I love all the little bridges and embankments. There were even a couple little stops or "depots". Can't quite figure out how the little engine connects to the wires overhead. The wires seem to go every which way and dip considerably between the poles. VERY enjoyable!
He shows that in in this other video by him: th-cam.com/video/uG67Iqb9b0c/w-d-xo.html At 23:02 he starts talking about the pickup shoe and trolly pole that connects the engine to the overhead wire. Where you've seen the wire sag more than a hand width, he had to stop and make repairs because tree branches fell on it and snapped the lateral tensioning wires.
Ladys and jentleman, this ist the 10:30 Intercity Service to forest Station. 😁 Good Luck for the upcoming year i am also working with the railway and i know how hard it Sometimes is to keep it running aspecialy when you Are working on nearly a hundred year old Steam Lokomotive Best wishes from Austria and good luck For 2024🎉
Best regards from Austria to you and the RR. I live to follow you work and join a ride on the RR. It is always relaxing, I appreciate your dedication very much. Keeper on railroading!
You are right, it's remarkable to be so clear. I think it says something about a winter, such as it was, with little teeth in it. Keep up the great work!
thanks for the tour, i hope to do mine when the snow melts enough to get the train out, i know i have alot of track work to do this year on my new expansion as well
Regarding the tree that limits the train you showed in an earlier video. Why not just turn the tree into a pole and save yourself some work? Chop it off high enough to reattach the wire support. Then using your chainsaw remove most of the encroaching front of the tree, cover the remainder in bitumen to slow the rotting and reattach your power line. Might last a few years.
Have to admit, that bridge after the problem tree was a little intimidating! What fun to go fast, on the cleared track! I am subscribing today (March 19, 2024).
Its a long way down if anything ever falls off that bride, its built basically on the side of a cliff. Probably going to add some guardrails at some point, just in case... Thanks for subscribing!
Even in Japan, even though it was winter, it was warm and suddenly cold, and it snowed. How about winter there? I'm glad that the train is moving again. I'm rooting for you from Japan!
Hello from Sheffield in the UK. Great to see minimal damage from the winter. Any chance over a tour off the line in the summer when all the trees are in leaf? It must look spectacular. Love the steeple cab.
I would guess the 1st order of business is to "pest-proof" the car barn/shop. Would have liked to have seen/explanation of the electrical power source and the details of that. With the distances of the railroad, there has to be some power issues to overcome. Definitely a very unique operation, one that I've never seen before (in miniature railroads). Very impressive and I'd like to see more, . . . .
nice man. Is it open to the public. Did you make it yourself or Is it on Your property.wow very cool 😎 That's what you are doing now. I would like to be in your shoes I What love do operate 1 That would be so much fun My friend 🙂😀
You'd be surprised at how little it costs with a little luck and some crafty engineering using recycled goods. I really enjoy making it work with a very low budget :) The Rock River is not far from here.
that was great no damage and it ran well. dog gone raccoon's! they cause so much damage! the tin work worked great at keeping the mice out! i can not stand those critters!
What about having the camera a little bit to the left of yourself and angled so we could see the the operation of the controls while doing your run. I was a motorman for the Old Cleveland Transit System in the mid sixties. Ran the heavy rail line.
A very impressive achievement and great to see the cab view as you travel around. Thanks for this. As a 7-1/4 steam guy, I have some idea of what you're up against (on a smaller scale) and have one question - do you increase the coning of your wheels to accommodate those very tight curves?
Excellent video! Must be great to have your own railroad. I'm very interested to hear more details about its history and about its electrical details. What is the size of the electric motors on the locos? Have you had any problems with maintaining good electrical connections on rail joints? With operation at only 120 volts it doesn't seem like you can afford too much voltage drop. Please keep the videos and narrative coming - I find it fascinating.
I've got a video that shows the motors and controls in process so stick around! All the rail joints are welded. Pretty sure I'm the only 2 foot gauge operation with continuous welded rail lol
The steeple cab has a top speed of about 12 MPH on paper, but going down the hill with no cars it will get closer to 15 MPH. The Birney is the fastest car on the line, we've measured it at 24 MPH for a short period. Very fun ride, although you feel as though you may die at any instant lol
It is a signal but I decommissioned the system a few years ago due to the work of maintaining the code line. I do have a radio code line system built, but havent gotten around to installing a testing it just yet. Someday it will happen.
Yes, rail this size goes for $3 per foot to $7 per foot and there is over 8000 feet of rail. Ties are about $2 each if you get lumber on sale and there are about 4000 ties, each tie has $1 worth of fasteners, so that all adds up pretty quick. Thats just the track lol

We strive for prototypical operation. Glad I hit the mark lol!
Nice piece of property……..with a railroad on it. Thanks for taking us for a tour. 👍
imagine having a airbnb there with a personal ride to your stay :)
That would be a pretty cool thing to have, I'd stay here for sure!!

I bought a leaf blower to do this with actually, just havent put it on yet lol.

Awessome video, big fan of the cahnnel hope to see more content in the future
Thank you again for another virtual ride on your Railway. I very much enjoyed the ride as usual. Lots of success to in the future with your Railway 🛤.
I could be mistaken, but it looks like around 12:25 there's an insulator dangling off to the right!
I see it too.
Nope you are right, I totally missed it. Good eye!

Thank you, its a labor of love for us :)
Thank you so much for the ride after showing the track plan. I really enjoyed it.
Nice to see minimal damage after the winter, expected it to be worse with all the trees.
Looking forward to projects and rides in 2024. 👍
Great steeple cab. Thanks for taking us along
Great to see you've made it through the winter pretty much unscathed. Looking forward to seeing progress on the projects for 2024. Good wishes.
I love your little railway ! Love from the UK.
Thanks a lot, you have some nice small railways there too that I would love to visit!
The steeple cab is very cool. Have a good operating season!
Thank you so much!

I enjoyed the ride here in Kernersville/Winston-Salem, North Carolina on our mini vacation. Very nice train route! Thank you for sharing!!
Glad you had good weather! It survived another winter 🎉
Very gosh darn cool! I love trains!
Track is looking good! It gets up and goes when you opened that up on the upper straight.
Thanks for the ride. Your new bridge is perfect.
Some have cats and dogs as pets. Others, racoons and mices.....
You got that right!
thanks for a great video looking forward to the summer
Trains and tracks fasinate me, wondering where they go.
To a GREAT 2024 !!!! Excellent video. Look forward to many more.
thanks for the tour, i hope to do mine when the snow melts enough to get the train out, i know i have alot of track work to do this year on my new expansion as well
Thank You for the Magical Mystery Tour !
Fantastic ride thank you. Have a great weekend
Thanks for taking us on a ride pretty cool. Take care and thank you.
Awesome ride! Thanks for sharing!!!
Great ride, many thanks!
Let the traction begin.
Thanks for the ride-along, it was fun.
Not much winter damage. I’m happy for ya. That was a relaxing ride. THANK YOU 🙏
Lovely location - especially being by a river or lake or pond or whatever that is. Reminds me of where I live in England.
England is indeed a lovely country with many interesting railways!
Well it does not look like you got much damage the place looks great thanks for a great video !
yay wish I could visit
been watching for years!

Thanks for the sub and for sharing!! Welcome aboard :)
That looks so fun!
Very inspiring! I have a mate who has a 10 ¹/⁴ inch Guage railway and now thinking of electrifying it... cheers Kell
Thats awesome, I hope they decide to electrify!
Great vid !
You need a mic muffler to block all that wind....
Even in Japan, even though it was winter, it was warm and suddenly cold, and it snowed. How about winter there? I'm glad that the train is moving again. I'm rooting for you from Japan!
my first video. very cool. looking forward to watching more.
Man, the minimum radius is pretty dang tight in some places on your tracks.
It really is and limits what kind of equipment I can build. But such is life with limited land.
Hello from Sheffield in the UK. Great to see minimal damage from the winter.

Welcome! I'll surely do a summer ride, its very nice when everything is in bloom :)

Looks like a fun but expensive hobby. Is that the Rock River running along the property?
You'd be surprised at how little it costs with a little luck and some crafty engineering using recycled goods. I really enjoy making it work with a very low budget :) The Rock River is not far from here.
It"s scary to look at such a road, let alone drive on it.
New season begin!👍
Nice run!
Love!
Oh hey, this is Ogle. Not too far off at all!
that was great no damage and it ran well. dog gone raccoon's! they cause so much damage!
the tin work worked great at keeping the mice out! i can not stand those critters!
you could use a track sweeper with all the debris from the trees.
I've considered building something like that!
That was cool. May be a dumb question, but it sounded like the steeple was equipped with air brakes, is that correct?
Yes, all of the equipment has air brakes. Well, almost all the equipment does anyways.
thats quite a railroad
I have been following this channel over a decade now love the tits off it.
Thank you for sticking around!!
How he power all the over head copper wire??? How much electric bill he have to pay???
The electric bill is about $25 per month. Not bad for as much fun as we have :)
What about having the camera a little bit to the left of yourself and angled so we could see the the operation of the controls while doing your run. I was a motorman for the Old Cleveland Transit System in the mid sixties. Ran the heavy rail line.
Yes I will try to take a wider angle next time!
A very impressive achievement and great to see the cab view as you travel around. Thanks for this. As a 7-1/4 steam guy, I have some idea of what you're up against (on a smaller scale) and have one question - do you increase the coning of your wheels to accommodate those very tight curves?
The wheels are barely coned at all, which is why it makes noise around the curves. There isnt really enough meat on them to do a proper taper.
Excellent video! Must be great to have your own railroad. I'm very interested to hear more details about its history and about its electrical details. Nice Railroad
12:23 did you miss the hanging insolater?
I did! Good eye pointing that out, more work for next time!!
💜
Ever planning on turning your railway into a park attraction? Can your train handle passengers?
Really interested in your speeder car. Hopefully you can do a video on it this year.
Looks like youre about to hit 10K subscribers. Congrats!
I'm really excited about hitting that mark, I appreciate everyone checking out the channel. I'll make a speeder video, good idea!
Wie schnell fahren diese Loks? 10-15 MPH ? Eine Parkeisenbahn Klasse. Solch ein Hobby hat nicht jeder. 👍🏻
The steeple cab has a top speed of about 12 MPH on paper, but going down the hill with no cars it will get closer to 15 MPH. The Birney is the fastest car on the line, we've measured it at 24 MPH for a short period. Very fun ride, although you feel as though you may die at any instant lol
So what plans do you have for this line? Limited logging, unorthodox passenger line?
Think of it as a garden railway on a large scale. The owner regularly notes that the insurance burdens of serving the public are onerous.
thanks for the ride on the rail road.. do you own it?
Yes I do.
12:26
Is that a red insulator I spot hanging?
You are the 3rd person to point that out and I totally missed it. Very good eye!
Im.glad the winter dod little damage, this was fun to see the whole loop! Wish i was thete to help maintain this great little railway 😊
👍 👍
Все видео ваше очень нравятся! Привет из России!
At 8:22, is that a signal on the left side and does it work?
It is a signal but I decommissioned the system a few years ago due to the work of maintaining the code line. I do have a radio code line system built, but havent gotten around to installing a testing it just yet. Someday it will happen.
I did not see anything wrong with the old track.

Where did you get the wheels for your speeder?
They came from old mining carts.
Is that actually operating from the overhead wire?
It is. Just like the real thing, don't mess around with the trolley wire.
@@SHKarlson Cool. Nice layout
Have you ever considered a PCC car?
It was the original builders dream to build a PCC, they were one of his favorite cars. Its not out the question for me to construct one some day :)
You know what you need for these rides? A dog. Some big ol lazy dog that likes to ride along.
I like this idea!

Thank you
How fast can you go?
This locomotive is geared for a top speed of 12 MPH, the fastest car is the Birney and it will run about 25 MPH
how much did this all cost? in total
I honestly have no idea, this stuff has been acquired and built over a period of nearly 75 years so tracking the cost would be a bit difficult!
