My first impressions came when they announced crowd-funding for their 2nd game without even fixing the glaring errors of the 1st game. Those impressions were "what the fuck, WMD, I will never consider giving you any more of my money."
And yet they had a day 1 patch ready and kept supporting the game with patches, ongoing events, sponsored championships and dlcs a full year after... or should we conveniently sweep that under the carpet for being inconvenient truths? =) Look, they started from scratch with PC1. They crowdfunded it, raised a nice sum, worked on the most ambitious project of their careers. They blew past the first, second and third estimated release dates, kept pushing it back by several months just to get a handle on most of the bugs. There were more bugs than expected and they were harder to fix than expected. Eventually they were running on fumes - the last month or two of development came out of the team's own pockets - and they simply _had_ to release. Was it still buggy, when they released? _Hell yes!_ No one is disputing that. Did they _want_ to release, when they did? No, not if they'd had any actual choice in the matter. Did they do the best they could to clean up post-release, while starting up on the successor? Absolutely yes. Did they get it perfect at the end? No, not even close. Some stuff had to be rewritten to get fixed, and it was too much investment for the first installment, but not for the second, which is a much less buggy game than the first.
And its still bad, while much older sims are still updating and improving. And now we have pcars2 which is shaping up to be disappointing, again. Yea im going to buy it because the genre is lacking, im going to give a chance.
What sims are you referring to? PC was always going to be a franchise. That's the whole market model. You may like it or you may not. That's entirely up to you. If a studio decides to do a franchise, it obviously means releasing every couple of years and only offering limited (1 year) support post-release, no different from any other major title out there that releases periodically. Mention any other sims that are franchises with a 2-3 year release schedule, which have done better, cause I'm hard pressed to do so! AC, R3E, rF2 and iRacing - none of them are franchises. You want to go all the way back to the simple simulation times of GTR 1 and 2? No, I don't consider Race 07 a franchise, but rather a single game with a bunch of DLCs, so...?
for those that backed Pcars on the wmd portal we were even more angry cause pcars wasnt supposed to have a sequel at all. it was supposed to be something they would build on for around a decade. seeing how they made all of us backers investors i can understand why they made pcars 2, entirely to get out of having to pay those original backers for years to come.
I'm wondering how many people are commenting without having played it recently? I just started playing PCARS again this week and realised it is much better than I remembered previously. Sure I had to get my FFB setting right again but I don't even use the Jack Spade settings, I only used FCM 1.2 until I found the smoothest most linear curve and turned the spring setting off. I've been doing some testing with changing weather and I was very surprised at how good it is. Sure the car modelling isn't as accurate as some other sims and I don't like some of the settings (I've noticed they have been fixed in PC2) but the driving experience in PC1 is so good it has only made made me excited for PC2 which is the opposite of what I expected, I went into testing it to be reminded of why I did not like it but found my opinion has changed. My opinion now is PC1 is my favourite sim/game to drive in so PC2 can't come soon enough for me.
The ffb does sound similar to pc1. It took a long time to dial it in and I still never got the "feel" that AC or AMS has. I'll probably still pick it up on a steam sale. I thought the vr was very good
You're a good youtuber Jimmy, iv'e gone from just checking out your GT3 livestreams when I get home from Ubering at night at 4am to watching your content more often, keep up the good work mate.
honestly i play the game and it isnt that bad. Yes there is a lot of oversteer but its very fun game so I would recommend the game. I do play on ps4 so it might be different
PC2 will suffer the same problems as PC1..Ian Bells arrogance in failing to listen to anyone and banning/censoring those who dare offer any constructive criticism. It'll be a 60-80% OFF STEAM Sale purchase game in next to no time.
Most cars haven't got they're final handling added in this build. The Ford gt isthe best in game so far and the one jimmys should try possibly at long beach
As much as I wanted this video to happen and witness his, of all peoples, true impressions. This point is very important. The GTONE is one of the last cars added to the game as far as the handling roadmap is concerned. The GTE/GT3 cars were first and the most complete when this build was first released. That's why they pre-selected the Ferrari GTE available to race back during their showcases, they hadn't run all the cars through the final tyre models or physics rigors at that time... But, the AI is still an issue. Individually they seem good but in a pack they have no regard for each other.
"Handling not added..." - well they should'nt, if the game has(had?) proper physics it should be all down to tyres, weights and geometry of the car already.
Thanks for your honest opinion. A lot of people get paid to say something is great when it isn't. I want PC2 to be great as well because I want to race a C7R and have it be as authentic as I can make it.
glad to finally hear some semblance of negativity about Project Cars 2. It helps put the game into perspective. A good number of people seem too scared to say something is disappointing. Personally I still wanna buy it, but now I know to lower my expectations a bit to enjoy it more lol.
TH-cam works in mysterious ways, getting recommended this one right under a new clips video 🤔 Also: looking at it now, that press release looks really bland compared to the release
You may want to test the various positions of the "Tone" control. Set "tone" to around 20 if you want more "Mz" forces, which are the tire twisting forces. This in turn will give you "more information" in all kinds of situations like understeer.
Jimmy, you would make a remendous trackside commentator....Announcer...? Anyway, aawsuuum videos. This game is my all time favorites. I see folks arguing over vid quality, and such. I AM NOT a pro at videos. But I noted that it pixels and so on, seemingly putting way miore into motion....Real(?) action. Speed. G-force. My un-pro take. Love your stuff Jimmy.
Very much enjoyed the praise and criticism in this video. I didn't get PCars 1, but this one looks promising. The only thing that really worried me was seeing the AI. For say 90-100% aggression this would be okay, but for 40% this is just silly. Especially that red BMW that Jimmy Broadbented you from behind.
Well shit. I had seen a vid from someone else about hwo good the rallyx felt and i was set on getting it. now im seeing this and im having second thoughts lol. good on you, Jimmer, for keeping it real.
Eh probably still going to pick it up. My problem with Project Cars 1 was the lack of car variety. I don't really care for race cars beyond real production based tin top, excluding some Group C type stuff or old F1 cars. This game might still have the problem but PC1 works great in VR. I started playing Assetto Corsa the other day and that seems like the same thing except no tracks AND meh car selection. I did some iRacing years ago and that is just absurdly expensive and all racing cars which, again, I find a tad boring. The track selection, quality of drivers, and net code were top notch though. And then you've got you're GT/Forza which have (had?) almost all the cars and good tracks but aren't exactly sims but still fun. Everything has it's pros and cons. Just play what you want.
I've heard the Ford GT GTE car is pretty good so it'd be interesting to hear your thoughts on that. I'd also like to hear your thoughts on a different type of circuit, on with more elevation maybe? I too want this game to be good so i'd love to hear about the different car/track combinations and how the compare
All "still in development" but funny seeing the windshield wiper clipping thru the windshield. And yes... Press version was confirmed as a build from about 1-2 months behind the current insider builds. Lots of other comments said included car setups were very understeer focused... as well as FFB still needs fair amount of manual tuning (not as much as first PCARS though).
I think most people go from being car enthusiasts, or racing enthusiasts, to playing these racing games and come into them knowing corner names, and all about the cars. I'm the reverse of that. Got into racing sim games, which actually got me into real racing, real cars etc To that effect - I think the racing industry in general, should come together to build an amazing all inclusive sim racer. I mean like the Star Citizen approach (but with committed timescales). Think if they raised a budget anywhere near the scale of GTA games or read dead redemption - what you could make, would be mind blowing.
it's a bit sad, because this is the only racing sim (or something trying to be a racing sim) that has a proper career mode for the singleplayer enthusiast on PC. Well there's forza but that's even worse
and you can make fun of Toyota all you want but the TS020 is one of my favorite le mans cars. Always had such a blast to drive. I do wish more racing games also had the homologation rules Road Car version of it. It's brilliant and IMO even better than the Nissan R390 Road Car which is popular in many racing games. Still, I think homologation road cars are some of the coolest cars ever.
PC2 strikes me as SMS making PC1 again but with some other stuff thrown in. Still has beyond stupid AI, and still has that weird fake drivetrain flex where the revs bounce for no reason when you change gear. Safe to say I'm not interested in PC2.

'Quickness' describes acceleration, 'fastness' describes top speed.
Please take the ffb with a grain of salt. The car setups haven't been implemented yet for most of the cars so that explains it. Sim Racing Paddock demonstrated this in a stream a couple weeks ago. I would try the Ford GT as it is one of the only properly tuned cars in the press version.
William Graves why would they give reviewers an outdated version of the game? that's just ass-backwards marketing. do they really expect us all to just believe "well its better now trust us"??
Dalton Bedore yeah I totally agree that they press version should probably have been better but the feedback of the ffb being better due to optimized setups was demonstrated by sim racing paddock not from sms. (Obviously I can't say from experience though since I don't have game)
Because they rather give them a stable version than a bleeding edge untested build? Review copies are often using older builds than retail, that's nothing new.
If we approach this as a variant of a sim, our expectations will be more realistic. They're all trying to do the same thing differently. Based on the GTS beta, this is already more focused towards more realism in physics. There's been no generational leap in GTS car handling, it still has too much grip. Against Assetto Corsa, PC2 is behind. The AI is floored at present, so is GTS. GTS also only has 17 locations, 7 aren't even real world tracks. That stinks. In 3 months, I'd be bored stupid. As I was with the small amount of content that landed in Forza 5. Compared to AC, this has far more interesting options. Seasonal grip, weather, night, ice racing, dirt tracks - day 1 on console. AC is looking really dated now feature wise. Despite being an awesome sim - which I backed on early access. ALL of these games have flaws. When I think about PC2, even with its flaws, it's already a more complete game than GTS appears. Due to the variety. GTS at present isn't pushing the genre, like it used to. It's sad to say that. Even Forza Motorsport isn't. Fair play to SMS for doing lots (seemingly) between dev cycles. It may not have Forza's car count, but has more disciplines, more location conditions, and like Gran Turismo, has awesome off road action out the box. I always wanted a Gran Turismo type experience on PC, with nice graphics etc. PC2 won't be perfect, but improves no end every 2 years. At least the devs are listening to driver requests, which is seemingly not the same thing at Kunos. All games are launched broken, all have crap parts, iracing, Raceroom and RF2 included. This is why people buy other stuff in the hope that it'll improve over time. The nice thing about PC2 is, SMS are making others work harder. GTS will land and won't even have weather and different conditions on all tracks, after all this time in development. Will raceroom be a better game when they port it to console, because of the competition, hell yes. Run an AI race in Assetto Corsa on a PS4Pro, and you don't even get a full race replay, even if you turn the number of AI down. PC2 will help push the genre forwards. Look how little Codemasters has pushed F1 forwards, in all the years they've had the franchise! There's room for them all, but they all need to do better, and SMS seem to want the success more than many of the others. Yes, of course PC2 needs to improve too. I wouldn't even recommend Assetto Corsa to friends on a console. If they play with pads, it's tricky to even drive the different car class types, even with a decent default base setting for a pad. The marketing of all games, never matches the disappointment of these broken games.
W41N have you ever driven on a track with slicks in a properly set up car, there is a LOT of grip, the games don’t need to make you feel like your on Prius tires just to be ‘realistic’
I strongly disagree with you. GT Sport has much superior physics, a fantastic driving model, and best in class FFB. But even without necessarily drawing comparisons between the 2 games, Pcars is a total fail in terms of handling model, FFB, and driving feel. Driving a car feels very much like GT sport, and nothing like PCars. I think there is a lot of pre-conceived notions in your text, and very little rational.
Vague? The feel it literally non-existent! Having been struggling with it today, I can confirm PC2 on the PS4 is unplayable. The FFB simply doesn't work on my G29. At all. The Tone setting is supposed to scale more tyre slip or more surface feel but it does neither. The steering is also very light and feel-less like you're driving some budget city car. It's probably the most pathetic release I've ever seen :(
That was my biggest complaint with Project Cars, the FFB was terrible, and you had to set it up PER CAR to get it to be even close to usable - way to fiddly and just made the game a chore, rather than fun. As you mentioned the details in FFB just weren't there, and sounds like more of the same with this one; for me, ffb and physics are the most important aspects of a driving game, and if its not massively improved in PC2, then I'm a solid pass.
The ffb is much improved. I can't speak to the OSW that Jimmy is using, but on my CSW v2, it's a helluvalot better! People on G25, T500 etc are also reporting a night and day difference. Could be it's an OSW issue. Funny how GamerMuscle likes it, though.
All the hype for this seems to be around the graphics and nothing else. And people acting like historic spa is a world first when Grand Prix legends has had it for twenty years.
I've had a 24h gt3 race at Road America in PC2 recently. I'm a beginner at sim racing, but compared to Assetto Corsa it just feels weird. I can go a lot quicker in AC than PC2. Maybe there is still that vagueness in force feedback. And for some reason our M6 gt3 was indestructible compared to the other cars
The direction of developing the game is wrong from the beginning...who the hell would focus on the graphics at first for claiming the product is a sim....hope that, the developer would listen to whats our opinions and advice and release a better version..... sigh...seems like need to go back to AC.....if AC release a graphics updates pack or something, i would definitely willing to pay for it....haha......
LuLuBaby Sim = simulator, you mixup games with simulators, need a game, or a simulator? If you need to test tracks or memories corners, you can use both! Sim racing hahaha, try flight simulators too!
2023, PROJECT CARS 2 still a legendary game! Bandai Namco Entertainment really nailed the game very brilliantly in terms of overall depth and single player contents. Shame PROJECT CARS 3 destroyed them all.
I just got project cars 2. My previous favourite and main sim was assetto Corsa. While messing around, I went over the flugplatz at full speed in the CLR in PC2 and was SHOCKED to find it almost flipped! The 911 GT1 did a similar thing but less so, confirming that this aspect was modelled. As I'd never seen such an aerodynamic simulation in a racing game before, I immediately fired up Assetto Corsa and took the 911 GT1 on the flugplatz - and nothing. The car stayed totally planted and flat, no aero lift/drag simulation at all. Now I ask you, is Assetto Corsa "simcade" because it doesn't model this aspect? Can you call PC2 simcade if it models such an important aspect as aerodynamics so much better than Assetto Corsa? It became pretty clear to me that a lot of people were full of shit slamming this game (PC2). It may not be perfect, but from now on, I'll be testing any competing Sim at the flugplatz with a 911 GT1/flat undertray race prototype and rejecting any "superior" sim unless it can match the modelling I saw in PC2. Because to me, flipping a car due to aero lift is something amazing to see in a Sim and confirms that PC2 is not to be underestimated in terms of its physics modelling. No matter what the FFB feels like. "Feel" does not define accurate physics modelling
After MUCH tuning and modding of config files, setting up the graphics, ECT, this has become my favorite VR sim. Racing into the night and out into the morning with all the different weather and classes, I just love it. So much more atmospheric. I can't get enough, especially since I just installed a custom FBB file from the ProjectCars forum. AMAZING! Absolutely amazing.
the setups in the press build are quite bad though according to william from sim racing paddock he found the ford gt road and gte version has a good default setup in the press build and feels much better so i suggest trying that car out and also try playing with the setups of other cars as that build appears to have some bad default setups though it is apparently about a 2-3 months old build of the game
Setting up the main game options as well as the cars themselves is the main thing people did not get to grips with on the first game hence all the moaning and saying it was crap. I still play it and love it, just be realistic, test the cars on the track and keep adjusting settings until it drives right for that track.
I like that the AI is bit agressive and they are little bit unpredictable, they fight against each other, they are making mistakes, crashes etc. It is not perfect i know, but it is much better then AI in most other games where they just ride in a train like robots and it is so boring.
Little late to the party but i just picked this game up and im fucking loving it! Im new to sim racing but ive played Forza since day one back in 2004.. damn near almost every day so PC2 was a huge step away for me... BUT Its pretty great. It feels maybe even a little more realistic than Forza does.. I do autocross and some other hobby racing in real life and there was always more of a disconnect between real life and the Forzas... There seems like less of that disconnect with this game for me with the wheel. Im stoked!!
"It seems like the game hasn't learned enough from the first PCars". That. That is exactly how it looks like from these press builds. I'll be waiting for the comparison with AC, rF2 and stuff.
That fake grip was my biggest issue with PC1 you would come out of the pits on cold tyres and 0 grip but yet AI had 100% grip instantly...
Project CARS 2 still has minor grip problems.
Same!

I thought the vr was very good
who's here after the PC3 announcement? i'm gonna miss this era of the franchise...
pc3 sucks
Just having the opportunity to race these classic cars like the Toyota TS020 and all the other gives me a shiver down the spine.
Lol, nice stuff Jimmer. You pretty much summed up Dirt 4 for me, and this too. tar. Wasn't expecting much, and it looks like it isn't that much.
Project Cars team doesn't know what FFB is no matter what... It seems FFB it's their No. 1 enemy.
I played today this game is a sim . Not at 100% but at 70/80%
You're a good youtuber Jimmy, iv'e gone from just checking out your GT3 livestreams when I get home from Ubering at night at 4am to watching your content more often, keep up the good work mate.
wow, I am really surprised .... quite a number of respected sim racers like what the see so far .... Always enjoy your videos, thanks
Thanks Jimmy! You've just saved me some money. I think I'll stick to rFactor2.
takethree69 even rFactor is better than PV
PC*
honestly i play the game and it isnt that bad.
It'll be a 60-80% OFF STEAM Sale purchase game in next to no time.
doofer lol I just bought it 80% off
PC2 seems to have superior aero modelling to AC.
Sames as Pc1 and same as other sims u will have a few good cars others will be lemon..F12017 ai race better..
If the AI kinda sucks in a pack, I'm just going to throw out a wild guess that oval racing is a clusterfuck?
"Handling not added..." - well they should'nt, if the game has(had?) proper physics it should be all down to tyres, weights and geometry of the car already.
That's literally what was being said for PC1 a couple of years ago.
Thanks for your honest opinion. A lot of people get paid to say something is great when it isn't. I want PC2 to be great as well because I want to race a C7R and have it be as authentic as I can make it.
Finally a real Sim driver's perspective of this game.
a real armchair expert, like everyone else.
@@Tintop And what are you?
@@jazz8000 didn't you understand my comment?
Thank you for being honest!
Wish i had seen your vids before i bought it, thankfully i was able to take it back . Pcars 1.5 if you ask me.
12:50 that must be the most realistic thing ever. Nice line. Much grip.
glad to finally hear some semblance of negativity about Project Cars 2. It helps put the game into perspective. A good number of people seem too scared to say something is disappointing. Personally I still wanna buy it, but now I know to lower my expectations a bit to enjoy it more lol.
TH-cam works in mysterious ways, getting recommended this one right under a new clips video 🤔
Also: looking at it now, that press release looks really bland compared to the release
"Stefan Biley" in the 2nd place Audi? That can't be a fluke.. lol
what? a GT1 car finaly getting some love ^^, nice to see, usually its gt3 or gte
The 99 GT-One is classified as a Prototype (LMGTP) Jimmy
Because it was never really a GT car. Luggage compartment is in the fuel tank, not very practical!
Sean Hart lmao "jimmy broadbented"
The ToyotaGTOne is such a beautiful thing. One of my favorite race cars since I was little kid.
Well shit. I had seen a vid from someone else about hwo good the rallyx felt and i was set on getting it. now im seeing this and im having second thoughts lol. good on you, Jimmer, for keeping it real.
THX for the honest thoughts. After PC1 I simply don't trust SMS anymore. In fact, thx to PC1 I will never pre-order any game anymore.
your racing commentary sounds awesome!! I really enjoyed it! XD
Funny seeing all of these people hate this build, yet when the game comes out, nothing but praise.
Got into racing sim games, which actually got me into real racing, real cars etc
To that effect - I think the racing industry in general, should come together to build an amazing all inclusive sim racer. I mean like the Star Citizen approach (but with committed timescales).
Think if they raised a budget anywhere near the scale of GTA games or read dead redemption - what you could make, would be mind blowing.
Fair comments JB, good insight
The biggest issue is that the speed in the car isn’t matched up with your surroundings, so you have no clue when to brake.
Pre ordered this bad boy...can't wait to put the pedal to the metal in a Porsche!!!
Lots of downvotes. People can't handle this, after their hypetrain is derailed. Denial
Shredd chuk chuk chuk chuk chuu chuuu. *Derailed*... Me Sad :-(
it's a bit sad, because this is the only racing sim (or something trying to be a racing sim) that has a proper career mode for the singleplayer enthusiast on PC. Well there's forza but that's even worse
jimmy stole the signaling cable on the main line and brought the hype train to an abrupt stop lol
PC1's AI also had "fake grip" when you raced in the rain.
I don't mind AI its funny when they crash. It gives that little bit more of realism
and you can make fun of Toyota all you want but the TS020 is one of my favorite le mans cars. Always had such a blast to drive.
I do wish more racing games also had the homologation rules Road Car version of it. It's brilliant and IMO even better than the Nissan R390 Road Car which is popular in many racing games.
Still, I think homologation road cars are some of the coolest cars ever.
Fair and balanced first impression of the pc2 press release.
Jimmy should commentate F1
Shon only if he talks like Murray and goes by Murray. “SPIN SPIN SPIN”
The ai from what i have heard focus on clean racing on the first laps but then the closer to the end the race gets the more they push and take risks.
I absolutely suck at this game, you make it look so easy
Martin 'Case' Fiala good point
"AI just giving us a little love tap" - Proceeds to plow the fucker off the road. :D
All the hype for this seems to be around the graphics and nothing else. And people acting like historic spa is a world first when Grand Prix legends has had it for twenty years.
The GT-One is my all time favorite Le Man car. IT looks pretty good on PC2.
Dan Allnatt Le Mans*
Love project cars definitely buying 2, nice video
Last time i was this early,Rasputin was alive
Love your narration, another Jackie Stewart
I've had a 24h gt3 race at Road America in PC2 recently. I'm a beginner at sim racing, but compared to Assetto Corsa it just feels weird. I can go a lot quicker in AC than PC2. Maybe there is still that vagueness in force feedback. And for some reason our M6 gt3 was indestructible compared to the other cars
I love realistic simulation, within limits. Dirt Rally 2.0 can fuck right off with its limit of 5 restarts for a whole championship...
just exit to menu instead of restarting
Currently available for £18 on the steam sale - watching this while it downloads :)
Where did you get that build? It's way old.
LuLuBaby
Sim = simulator, you mixup games with simulators, need a game, or a simulator? If you need to test tracks or memories corners, you can use both! Sim racing hahaha, try flight simulators too!
2023, PROJECT CARS 2 still a legendary game! Bandai Namco Entertainment really nailed the game very brilliantly in terms of overall depth and single player contents. Shame PROJECT CARS 3 destroyed them all.
that wiper clipping the windscreen
Full mental breakdown, crying doesn't even come into it. MY AUDI. :'(
I just got project cars 2.
Apparently the AI programmer was George Li Wright... :)
the setups in the press build are quite bad though according to william from sim racing paddock he found the ford gt road and gte version has a good default setup in the press build and feels much better so i suggest trying that car out and also try playing with the setups of other cars as that build appears to have some bad default setups though it is apparently about a 2-3 months old build of the game
Rip.... never hopped on the hype train, this is why
...and this is why you never ever pre-order.
Graphics look pretty plain for PC2.
A def said before 911 gt3 nordschleife was good try that Jimmy 👍
