    It's a full shop these days, and in this episode, there is truly a little bit of everything. Woodworkers will enjoy the joinery from Scott, systems nerds will appreciate Satchel's work with the marine 12 volt electrical equipment, and of course we've got some sanding and wood finishing (varnish). Steve also gets out the welder, and no worries, he definitely got his title for the week and Ben called it his Sistine Chapel. It's that good.
    We're rolling with a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery bank and it's neat to get Satchel's perspective on the various items needed to make that work well with an alternator and in a marine environment. We'll have a lot more about this in future videos as well.
    Plus, AKIVA! And little Ernest the Boston Terrier. They're best buds.

    Acorn to Arabella is a wooden boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve started as an amateur wooden boat builder building a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond-sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that classic wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY boatbuilding project will continue well past launch, when he and the crew will travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva.

    Bens edit,narration and music always lend the boathouse such a chill, relaxed vibe. Given the number of people and jobs in progress, it must be a madhouse in there at the moment!

      All ayes to praise for Ben, but I do not think that it will be a madhouse - Steve has shown that he can manage multiple work strands and keep everything going smoothly.

      Original music really sets a TH-camr apart. The royalty free catalogue is still too sparse to avoid overlap. I recently discovered the channel of engine builder/tuner Pete Harrell (AKA Real Good at Doin’ Stuff) and his comic metal themes keep me coming back. youtube.com/@realgoodatdoinstuff900

    We lived on a Alden designed fractional sloop for 30 years. Our warm weather "shower" was a swim. Our cold weather shower was a kettle heated on the stove dumped into a 1 gallon plant sprayer and topped up with tank water. Like the fellow doing the pumps, we don't shower that much!

    Every time I see Aaron if that’s the correct spelling I think of my child hood. I was lucky enough to have have a Steve in my life as well and learned so much from the man down the street. He was a highly skilled craftsman and taught me everything he could. I didn’t have a farther and he didn’t have a son so it was a perfect match. The best thing I got out if this was a life time of memories. This was 50 years ago and I still think about him all the time.
    Best to you all

    For those roof lights, I would extend the plastic (?) sheet out over the lower edge to provide a smooth water run off and use the bronze strips on the top and sides. Small stainless 'S' clips would secure the lower edge. But perhpas you have good reason for the bronze lower strip.

    • @AcornToArabella
      @AcornToArabella  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He could romp around the shop because of an enclosure in there for him… which we removed a while back because of big changes and we haven’t had a chance to set it back up again. He’s an escape artist and likely to get himself in trouble in streets or even maybe hurting other domestic animals like cats and chickens, so he needs his spaces and boundaries. Yup, he’s doing well and Ernest is good company!

    You may want to consider a water expansion tank. When the water is heated in the water heater, if it has no room to expand, it will come out of the water heater pressure safety/ relief valve. Just redesigned my own boat with one after a hot water tank leak scare.

    The faces of the cabinetry is going to look fabulous with that Beryl wood. Just imagine what shipwrights had to do years ago when all they had only had access to hand tools? Imagine the time and grief they had to combat compared to today with all the handy hand tools to speed things up and make it much easier for the carpenter or shipwrights.

    Despite needing to mind the work of so many others, plan the project, figure out the most crucial unsolved problems AND care for his mom, Steve nevertheless pauses to teach Aaron whenever he comes by, and with remarkable patience. Any ordinary person would be forgiven for begging out or being a little hurried in the same circumstances. This speaks volumes about the character of the guy in charge, and I'm certain it's going a long way to shape another kind person and humble leader.

    I'm starting to get a sort of flash-forward effect, where I can see us watching future videos of Arabella out at sea, saying 'Do you remember all that time when she was on dry land and we saw the component wood coming together?' A large part of that comes from the sight of the deck in the background, now it is pitched and (hopefully) watertight.

    When Satchel said that his professors told his class that 90% of you are going to be working commercial vessels I couldn't help but laugh. I got the exact same pitch from my professors and we were all like yeah sure, and then they proceeded to set that expectation by making us work on nothing but commercial vessel design for the next 4 years of school. Now that I'm in the industry I can confirm that number is actually higher than 90% XD
