It's kids like Aaron that give me hope for the future. Hes making a boat instead of causing problems in society. Plus hes there for steve and the family. Arron, you are awesome.
As always, it is a joy to 1) watch you perform wood and marine work and walk us through your work and thought processes 2) patiently and graciously mentor Aaron - these experiences with you will inform his entire arc as a man and a human 3) support your mother and family. Never fear that you are not providing sufficient quantity or nature of content. Eight years ago we signed on for The Adventure of a Wooden Boat. Everything that has happened, is happening and will happen is a part of that adventure. Just keep being Stephen and do what you do. Don't tell Arabella, but I'm really tuning in for the story of Stephen.
We missed you but that just gives us more appreciation for when you are here. I think of you and your mom often and wish you well! Be sure to tell her she is in our thoughts.
My first thought was, I bet Steve ensures he tells us he is not fixing Bob's workmanship...and true to form, he does! Class act Steve! Super stoked to see Aaron again too.
"A ship in a harbor is safe but that is not what ships are built for". Victoria is meant for use, and with use comes needed repairs. Luckily she was well built from the start, and is in exceptionally capable hands for her foreseeable lifetime. Great to see you again Steve, and all the best to you and your family.
Good to see Victoria under sail, I still maintain it's easier to learn to sail in a little dingy because you can *feel* everything affecting the boat. Love to your mum
Theres not many people that i trust when they say "you have my word" but steve is one of them. God bless you all and i cant wait to see the next adventure aboard Arabella. Ben, keep up the good work! You guys rock!
I so enjoyed seeing you and Aaron working on the tender. You are an inspiration to him, I am certain. Nothing is ever perfect the first time out. There's always an evolution to things. Look at what Doug Jackson is doing with Seeker.
You made the right choice about the paint. Bringing it to pristine condition is for those that rarely use it or have lots of free time/money. For everyone else it a constant cycle between slow decay and repair to good enough.
I am really looking forward to watching Aaron become… well, whatever he becomes. That one is a treat for humanity and I suspect he will have a very great story some day ahead.
No doubt moisture was wicked through the exposed keel edge and the wood expansion caused the problems, a wear strip would help to avoid this in the future
The nonskid was a good idea. Varnish looks great but it is hard to stand on and it doesn’t like being bumped. Good to see you making progress though hard times. Our prayers for your mom.
Steve, you remind me of so many great teachers I have encountered in my life. We tend to over index the bad ones but you are a credit to your profession and dont worry Ben we got you!
For a dinghy that spends a lot of time on rocky beaches, I'd consider some kind of metal strip on the keel to protect it from bumps and knocks. Depending on the shape of the hull it can be anywhere of really easy to pretty complicated, but if your dinghy is in pretty regular contact with rocks, a metal strip will significantly prolong the time before major maintenance is necessary.
i am so happy that 13 hours later you have so many views. this morning i was view 2, and i am proud of that. i have been a supporter of your channel for years. i believe in you and what you are setting to do. i know that life got in the way of your plans. but apparently 20k people stand behind you. many men have built a boat, but how many men have built that kind of following? please, steve, let this short note have a long shadow. you, you, are a hero of our times, and we really do need a hero. very best wishes from your friend from connecticut.
Great update, and good to see Victoria brought back to her new more utilitarian spec. I did point out to Bob during construction the likely problem with the forward end of the skeg but he did not pick up on it. Not only does it hit stones on the beach, putting a strain on the skeg fixings, it also prevents your rowing over things like seaweed and floating buoy ropes. It's hard to beat a brass rubbing strip from fore to aft. They last for years and then are easily replaced. It's what I have on the boat I built.
When I saw that there was a new video, I thought the worst. I was so happy to be proved wrong. I don't doubt this is still a tough time for you all, but I'm glad to see you all again.
Great to have you back and doing the work on Victoria. I am impressed by the outstanding mentoring of Aaron who will grow up with great confidence because of the trust and faith in him you show. Best to your mom. Ben is a treat to see.
Hi Ben, I loved the tilt lens shot at the end, You are a great craftsman with light and visuals, thankyou for helping to share this story. To the entire team, thankyou for starting my weekend (Australia) with another tale of your week and the joys one can find in building, making and sharing. A brilliant example of how to appreciate the sunset, rather than despair at the fading light. Take care all.
Long time subscriber and ive been watching since the lead pour. I hope you guys are okay. I just lost my mom a few months ago to long term illness. Its not an easy thing to go through, but you are not alone. I hope to see you back on arabella soon, but at this point I understand if you wait it out through the winter. Your fans would love an update if you are able. God bless.
Nice upgrades and it is really great that Aaron was able and willing to spend that time and help. Improvements and changes that Victoria needed for her tasks.
Lovely to catch up and see you looking so well Steve. This was just like old times with the young fella helping out and Akiva hanging out in the background and Vicky getting some TLC. Ben on his trike, which looks awesome. Much love to everyone.
Great to see Aaron working with you, he has come such a long way. The end result of Victoria looks excellent, a great functional, but pretty sailing tender. Continued best wishes to all the family.
Great to see an update! Victoria certainly did need a bit of maintenance and updates, but shes a fine boat and will serve you well. Also good to see your apprentice shipwright again. I wouldn't mind seeing what he managed to come up with for his build.
My withdraws are over. It's great to see a update on Victoria but I totally understand what you and your family is going thru. Hope your Mom is resting the best she can and that you're there with her. God Bless.
Missing you guys on the water. I am in Rockland for a few days. I went into the town pier and wondered where Arabella was.... but not for long as she is pretty much front and center right near the black 210 and just a little outside of Neal Parker's schooner conversion 'Meteor'. She (Arabella) is looking fine. A little forlorn but not forsaken. I will have to leave west bound (for the Gloucester schoonerfest) before you make it back to Rockland. So I miss you guys but glad to know the time you spend away is precious and noble. J.Ray :)
Great work as ever. There are always many ways of doing things and, having built a few small dinghies myself, i think I would have faired the front of the skeg to the hull with thickened epoxy and put thickened epoxy fillets down the sides of it before then glassing it. I would also recommend a bronze rubbing strip from stem to transom as well as the extra glass to help reduce the beaching damage. So good to see young Aaron at work again and restoring our faith in human nature 😊 Prayers and best wishes to you and your family.
@@RicktheRecorder agreed😁 TBH, anything tougher than fibreglass. Either that or a sacrificial wood skeg but that would probably need annual replacement and be prone to breaking away as the stern skeg was.
Steve, Robin and crew, So glad to see a video this morning. Great job on Victoria with help from Aaron. So nice to see you and him working together again. He is becoming quite the craftsman and boat builder. And as always Steve, we're all thinking about you and you family. Sending you lot's of love and energy. Be well.
Thank you Steve and Alex. Keeping the boats maintained is important never ending task to keep them healthy for your adventures great stuff good job guys.
Thanks for the update. I am glad you have these projects you can do at home. I know I needed that kind of distraction when my mom went through the same thing.
Good to see you are back, but you are still working to a difficult schedule and thank you for your time on this update. Remember take the time you need your subscribers will be here.
22:25 I thought all of Steve's best ideas involved doing fine detail work with a chainsaw? 😁 (Give our love to your mom, Steve. She has raised a fine man. Sorry she and all of you are going through this.)
Praying for you and your mom and your family. I understand what a tough time. It is many families have gone through what you’re going through and it sucks.
Greetings from Ontario, Canada, I came via Crumplehorn Inn, Polperro, SE Cornwall, and was there for 18 years. Back for a 3 week vacation in 2 weeks. Have a great weekend.
Really interesting episode Steve, thank you for sharing it with us. Prayers continue here for your Mom and your family. I continue to be impressed by your thoughtfulness when it comes to design decisions for your project. I recall seeing Victoria in Maine in June and she was looking a bit rough but looks great now! Peace.
I agree with you Steve. I watched all the videos Bob posted on the building of Victoria, and he obviously knows what he is doing. He built you one sturdy boat.
Happy Friday everyone, sending all our love and best wishes to you and your family Steve.. Dear viewers, Please don't forget to like share and subscribe every little helps ....
Thanks for this episode. Everyone connected with this effort appears to be so passionate and genuine. I can't wait for the next installment, whenever that may happen.
Somehow I was unsubscribed from your channel. I have been following you for years. I found your channel on about your second episode. I don't know how or why I was unsubscribed but I'm back! I have absolutely loved the journey that you have taken on this huge endeavor and I am continually amazed at your knowledge and craftmanship. I wish you and your loved ones the best and my heart goes out to you and your family with your mom's illness.

Just to let you know, we are thinking of you and sending our love.
When Aaron is an old old man he will remember you and all the things you taught him and all the things you did together. Well done all!
What a treat to find a video this morning! Steve and Aaron working on Victoria, she is looking great again!
Your mentorship of Aaron is commendable.
When all of us are gone and no one else remembers, Aaron will still be around... and remember. Good job, Steve!

I"m still drinking coffee but I liked it when it got cold because your videos were so mesmerizing. We love you!!
It’s great to see your right hand man Aaron back in action in the “boatyard “
Hey guys, praying all is as well as can be and just letting you know you're all missed. 🙏🏼
This felt like a true coming home episode... Steve and Aaron working on the boat 😃
You made the right choice about the paint. Bringing it to pristine condition is for those that rarely use it or have lots of free time/money. For everyone else it a constant cycle between slow decay and repair to good enough.

Good morning Steve and Arron. You have Victoria water proof again and looking good. Our thoughts are with your family.
Wish yourself and your family the best. Good to see Victory getting some TLC, looks great. Good to see Aaron back in the boatyard.
Hi Steve - I attached an aluminum strip to the keel of my row boat to deal with the wear problem. - Works!
Yeah, some sort of wear strip the whole length feels helpful here.
@@Broken_Yugo Agreed
No doubt moisture was wicked through the exposed keel edge and the wood expansion caused the problems, a wear strip would help to avoid this in the future
This, but do it in bronze. I'll bet Steve still has a bunch of flat stock leftover from all the bits he fabricated for Arabella.
Aaron u r a hard worker. You deserve that refreshing swim. Steve you folks brightened up Victoria quite nicely.
The nonskid was a good idea. Varnish looks great but it is hard to stand on and it doesn’t like being bumped. Good to see you making progress though hard times. Our prayers for your mom.

Good to see you again Steve. It's a "working " boat. Repairs will be necessary.
Great video Steve. Nice to see Aaron and you working again. Keep up the good work. Our prayers are with you all.
Glad to see you back! The nice thing about wood boats is that they give you many chances to figure out the correct way to repair them.
“Sailings fun, almost as fun as building”. Haha well said young man.
As from when I first started following Acorn To Arabella, your commentary on what you are doing is the best part of a excellently constructed episode.
It's great to see you again. Your family has been in the suportive thinking and praying of a lot of folks, and will continue to be.
Thanks for who Robin and you are! The caring, sharing, and mentoring that is exhibited in your lives is a joy to watch. Well done, well done!!

Prayers to your mam from across the pond
As much as it pains me to see wood get painted, it really was the right choice for this boat. Looks great!
Thanks for the update. I am glad you have these projects you can do at home. I know I needed that kind of distraction when my mom went through the same thing.
Steve, Robin, et al, thank you for the video update. I hope everything is going as well as can be expected.
Just a little difference from a show horse to a work horse. Long live Victoria!!!
Using anything helps you add function to the object your modifying Victoria is exactly what is needed!
So great to have you back !!! Best to your Mom and Family too. It has truly been and continues to be an Incredible Journey. Be well and stay safe.
Nice job on the upkeep. All good practical fixes. The young lad does quite well also. Well done all around.
Every boat needs routine maintenance. Nice job. I like the epoxy plugs around the hardware, it is a clever trick.😊
💙 Glad to see you again!
Glad your mom is looking out for Aaron. 😁
Glad Victoria is looking GREAT ! 🎉

Good to see your pal Aaron back. And great to see he’s still willing to help.👏👏

What I love about Steve is the emphasis on practicality and workmanship. Victoria is a working boat. Beautiful and functional.
Thanks for the great video. I have been praying for you, your family, and especially your mom.
What a treat to see Aaron and Ben in the video.
Praying for you and your mom and your family. I understand what a tough time. It is many families have gone through what you’re going through and it sucks.
