    ABOUT ME:
I’m Liam Harrison, Bolton born and bred. I’m a lover of Golf, life and laughter.
Started Golf 12 years ago after packing in football when i was 28 due to a back injury.
I started the TH-cam channel as a laugh and a Wim, to make me practice but that went out the window as i started vlogging, loving being on camera but more so the interaction with my #golfmates.
In 14 months i have seen the channel evolve and become the only real golf community on TH-cam which i am extremly proud of.
I would like to thank all the #golfmates that have been with us and supported us and the channel from the start. Also not forgetting our new #golfmates that may have only just come across the channel.

I will always say if you only swing it at 90 mph all the drivers you use will go about the same distance give and take a couple of yards. I had mine made by a local club fitter, a no name brand. He fitted it with a good shaft at 44 inch length, I had great results finding fairways and good distance around 210 to 215 carry. Cost 350 $ Canadian around £215. I will match my driver to any brand named driver. Another great video Liam keep it up. 😀😀🏌️🍻🇨🇦

For years golf club engineers set about building the most competitive non-adjustable drivers. These efforts peaked with the Callaway X series and others like the Taylormade AeroBurner. State of the art aerodynamics and technology. All of a sudden market research indicated that golfers were becoming so sophisticated with their golf games that specialized fitting was what they wanted. Little weights and slide bars could customize and eliminate their swing errors albeit by adding more weight to the clubhead. So they, and questionably trained club fitters, end up tweaking and fiddling with their clubs. Manufacturers rushed to give them what they wanted when all along, through years of expensive development, they had succeeded in developing the best, non-adjustable equipment designed to fit the golfer willing to put in the time to develop a proper swing that would fit their equipment. Liam, it's no wonder you get a better result from the X as many other dedicated golfers will.

You're having a good day.. AND, the difference for me was the sound of it. I don't know that there is really that much difference from $$$$ to $ unless absurdly cheap. I can say I like my SIM2 Max a lot and it is the sound of it, when hit square... that I like so much. SO that counts for 30% of my hits... the rest are heel shots.. consistently it seems :(

I have 2 Callaway X 460cc Drivers from 2007, 8.5*&9.5*, MSRP $375. Explosive off the tee & LOUD! Look smart behind the ball too. $180... great price & comes with a proper (SOCK) head cover, not a boxing glove. Nice. Another good video Liam! Cheers #GOLFMATES

  • @superskank1467
    @superskank1467 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Even £180 seems a lot for one bat, i paid around £130 for my TM Burner in 2008, and that stung at the time. £500 for a bat these days is putting a barrier up for participation. I recommend nobody buys new clubs, and just goes on a site like Golf bidder and picks up a nice 2nd set for a third of the price.
Great video Liam, about time someone told us what we all suspected, that course looks nice too. might have to go and play it next summer.

I hope that you had the Bolton Mountain Rescue Team on stand by?
I played in their Men's August Open Invitational for several years. The difference in the cost is probably down to the tech and cost of marketing, which makes no real difference to the person holding it if they are not hitting it out the middle every shot. I would rather spend the difference in cost on lessons or better still beer.

Liam. It says that the man or woman who thinks golf is a rich man's game has been misled. It is up to us #golfmates to continue to show people that, golf is for everyone that wants to play the game. Thank you for using your following to prove this. I currently use Taylormade Clubs, entire bag. But the longest drive that I have ever hit was with RAM driver 10.5 degree. Box set from Walmart. You sir are bang on. Keep it coming.

That there are few reviews on the X series driver ... I’ve been asking that myself about Wilson’s D series drivers in recent years. The question is, why aren’t golf clubs reviewed based on tiers, such as top, middle and bottom tier drivers? I think the answer is, because if middle tier drivers like the X series does well enough, then why would average golfers buy top tier drivers?
It’s funny, because when it comes to irons, golf makers have been a little better at differentiating one set from another. But with all other clubs, they push the top model, or only make one model.

  • @schuletrip
    @schuletrip 5 ปีที่แล้ว

I’m fairly new to playing regularly and actually wanting to play regularly; I’ve put the driver away, I’ll use it when I’m out on my own, or on the range but can’t confidently use it in front of random players. So until I’m good enough and confident enough it stays in the bag. The driver makes no difference, it’s the swing, the strike, the lot. Until I’m sorted with all of that there’s no point playing with it. I actually use an X Hot Hybrid (donated by my Dad) off the Tee around 200 yards and it stays straight, so I’ll save my money for now and improve my game in general.

confidence costs are what the prices are. All clubs are pretty similar but to give people with money some confidence (mugs) expensive clubs are put out. Selling confidence to mugs is the game, when just having the right mental attitude cost SFA , some people have more money than sense

  • @mikerozon9570

my thought on this driver would go as follows. it's the driver from a beginner style set that includes irons and woods. stores/courses try to upsell on a driver. this may be one from the set where someone bought a complete set and was sold the upgraded driver. I've bought several callaway sets over the years and that is what i found. How many people would buy the set of clubs if they had to pay 600 for a driver, 400 for a 3 wood, 300 for a pair of hybrids, and then add your irons and wedges....

You can still find buckets full of the older but unused 9 Degree loft Callaway XR-16 drivers with adjustable sleeves for $120. Take the stock shaft out if you don't like it, order a $90 Hzrdus Smoke 6.0 Shaft off the internet, and for $210 dollars, you will have a fully adjustable:
    - from slightly open face angle with 8 degrees that spins at 2200 rpms
    - to stock neutral flighted 9.0 loft 2500rpm spinning head
    - to more shut fact & upright setting drawing 11 degree head that spins at 2800rpm
and I absolutely guarantee you will love it and can find a setup that works best for what you bring to the table
I did exactly this a few months back and then just recently went to a Callaway fitting day to test out their new Flash Hybrid, but also hit my driver asking if they could put me in a setup that beat it, and after 30 minutes on a Trackman testing the Flash, Flash Subzero, and 2 of the special * heads that sit more open, none of them could outdo my 13 degree launching 2200 spinning XR-16 with HRZDUS Smoke 6.0 60gram shaft playing 45.25" in length. There is no question the carbon crown heads have that more lovely sound to them - but strike patterns are so overwhelmingly important that finding those extra theoretical 2 yards is impossible - far more relevant is having a club that you can hit consistently.

Thanks for testing that driver. I just saw one on ebay for $150 brand new. Hard to believe that a good driver is that price. It makes sense though, because these manufacturers keep coming out with new "gimmicks" every year and everyone gets convinced that it will be better than last year. Every new club that comes out just offers new ways to compensate for the same old bad golf swing.

Not that the sound bothers me but you can really hear the high ping from the X compared to the thud of the Epic. I’ve been buying stuff that’s new but 3-4 years old. For me works just as well as the new stuff at a fraction of the price. Just bought a brand new 2017 M2 d-type for $100 and a new M3 for $140, why do I want to buy the latest one for $500?

Only a guess but is the fact it’s not marketed at a big cost or got the latest tech development that is a big cost the reason it’s cheaper, I.e something for everyone, golf needs big spenders to keep it all alive and dangling shiny things in front of punters with plenty of money to spend keeps them spending and the second hand cheap club market ticking over allowing others then to get into golf with decent second clubs for a budget, again keeping the golf scene alive, if development and shiny gimmicks wasn’t a thing we’d all still be driving round in model T Fords, love the videos as always Liam keep it lit.

There's a full range of x series clubs, irons, fairways and hybrids as well. They're all at an entry level price point. There was an x series 16 before these ones too which were blue and black rather than red. Have seen an iron review on you tube but never seen any of the others being tested.
I don't really think there's much between any clubs these days. A bit of difference in appearance for marketing purposes but its a lofted bit of metal on the end of a stick.

Only a difference if you’re good enough to have a consistent swing and strike the ball out of the middle cleanly, that’s when the tech in more expensive clubs matters.

I bought this driver a few months ago. Started with the 10.5 but exchanged it for the 9.5. I still get massive height but have it this driver 280m-300m.
I tested out 5 more top end drivers in the shop and this still came out trumps. Quite a forgiving club

My bag... 4-SW Ping eye 2s. A cheap Wilson 3 wood, a Old Nike driver, and an old mizuno putter I gave 5 U.S. dollars for. I have tried tons of new, mega expensive stuff and still like this setup better. Money dont buy strokes, practice does.

It sounded good Liam put it in the bag. I don't understand the logic of the big boys but you hit it very and will probably play well with it.

Bought a Top Flte Senior Pro driver out of Dick's Sporting Goods store for 60 dollars brand new. I got it because I could not find an adjustable senior shaft for my old Calloway R1 driver. No adjustments 10.5 Deg. is it any longer than the R1 ,no ,but I hit more fairways with it . feels better when I hit it .So I think it just depends on if you want to show off what you can spend . Calloway most likely made it to go in a starter set..

Another great video. Here in the states, I know some folks that use the Callaway X series irons and hybrids. Callaway put a great deal of investment in marketing the Epic and therefore, charge quite a bit more for it. As you have shown, there isn't really that much difference between the two clubs. So, it comes down to the cost. Is it worth paying over 60% more for the Epic? I guess it comes down to which one gives the user more confidence and best results vs cost. By the way, I use an older Cobra driver

Beautiful course Liam, Yes I agree with you and all the golf mates that you can find good drivers for a better price and will do just the same as the high dollar drivers. I was told win the R&A and USGA started measuring the COR on the drives that the only thing golf club mf. could do is add bells and whistles like the adjustment and weight to the club. I have done my own test on drivers and found the smaller heads
425 to 365 are better. Thank you for the video.

I bought the xhot2 about 5 years ago I went and compared my driver to new epic flash and I was really wanting to buy the epic driver!! My farthest shot with the epic was 5 yards farther than my xhot2 not worth spending 550$. Btw the x series 3 wood is amazing absolutely crush it off the fairway

I have a whole set of x series’s clubs including this driver which I purchased in 2018. They came with a cart bag and were sold as a premium beginner set for $1500 Australian dollars. Great clubs so far but early this year I miss hit the driver and put a big dint in the toe. I’ve replaced it with an XR speed driver also by Callaway that was on sale for $246 and roughly $100 cheaper. I could have had a similar set of Taylor Made’s with a bag for the same money but the Callaway’s came with a better bag and were in my opinion better looking. I love them and play every week ⛳️🏌️‍♂️😉👍🏻

What a gorgeous course! Camera man did a great job except for not zooming in on your 170 yard approach shot.
I think I'll take my daughter's advice. She likes the 'sound' of her driver.🔊 So, if I can find one that has a lot of percussion that would be perfect! ⚡🧨

Hi Liam I think I've just seen the reason why your game has gone a bit streaky recently. You have started swaying in your takeaway and follow through. (I've got the same problem)
Start here and watch how your head moves to the left of ball (face on)
    th-cam.com/video/ZL44b4P4dzw/w-d-xo.html
Your head should be stationary and you pivot around a single axis.
    th-cam.com/video/ZL44b4P4dzw/w-d-xo.html
Your head is nearly over your right foot when it should be in middle of your stance.
This adds strain to your back and as you've had back issues in the past might be better to get that fixed.
    Great Video.
