    More about HH Catamarans and our HH44 : www.hhcatamarans.com/hh44-wynns
    Full Disclosure: Transparency is important to us because we want you to understand what our relationship with HH Catamarans means and how it will affect our content. The short answer is, that it won't. We did receive a small discount on the purchase of our boat in exchange for the publicity HH44 Catamaran will receive. But HH fully agreed that it was important we retain full creative freedom and continue to create as we always have, by sharing our honest experiences. It's because of this shared desire for transparency that we are very much looking forward to working with and owning an HH44 Catamaran.

    Why Curiosity2
    Self-Reliance + Sustainability = Freedom
    Self-Reliance: To rely on our own resources and limit our need for a marina or fuel dock.
    Sustainability: Thinking about what we do today and how it will affect next week, next year, the next decade, and so on. It’s the recognition that we’re all part of a living system and that everything we do impacts the world around us.
    In other words, we want to be out in the world living and exploring for as long as possible. Both in terms of not having to worry about our resources or our habitat disappearing.
    It's practical, not political.
    And we know we're not the only ones seeking this kind of freedom because we have you! Our community of like-minded people we've been having this exact conversation with for the past decade. It doesn't matter if you are in an RV, Tiny House, Sailboat, Motorboat, Homestead, Farm, Ranch, or Off-Grid Island Resort...at the end of the day, we've all connected over our love for nature and our desire to be in it.
    This new HH44 is the continuation of that conversation and desire. This is not the ultimate, all-time perfect eco boat or zero-footprint anything. Not even close. It’s the best option that we could find working with viable, available solutions. It’s the type of innovation we want to support, encourage, and see way more of.
    We're super stoked about getting into the world of Performance Cruising and hybrid electric sailing with our new HH44 catamaran. HH catamarans have a reputation for building the best luxury performance sailing catamarans in the world. And now this is a brand-new boat designed from the ground up with solar, hydrogeneration, and electric motoring in mind. Add in our rain capture system and we have the ability to be off the grid and explore incredibly remote and uninhabited areas for months and months at a time.

      Yeah, it is priced on par with the Neel 52 trimaran or Windelo 54, both of course offering much more space and probably both also easily as fast. Windelo by the way comes with a very advanced hybrid drive system and massive solar and hydrogeneration and all. I could not make that choice, even this is a very, very nice boat, I got to say. At the Nautistyles test sail the Windelo did 5 knot true speed in 5 knots of true wind. You really can not beat that.

    I have done 3 longer passages on an HH50 with the boards. Great boats. Here are my pros and cons. Pros: It is so wonderful to sail in light air. We were near three other cats during the night. They all slowly overtook us but we were sailing in the 8 knots of breeze while they had a teeth rattling evening of motoring. The cabins are by far the best of any boat I have been on. I spent a month on the hh50 over 3 different trips. I lived for 5 years on my catamaran for comparison. The build quality is high. All new boats have issues but hh support seems good. In my final trip I did watch frequently from the interior nav station. Great way to avoid sun etc but when there is a crossing situation a night I still go on deck. Cons: engine access on the hh50 is pretty horrible. The shape of the stern of the hulls turns skywards at the end. This helps with boat speed but allows for hull slap at anchor. The engine compartment is not kept bone dry and it allows water on the engine electrics. Not great. The boat is a little harder to dock since she is so light. Consider a bow thruster but for my time in the pacific we rarely came into Marinas and if we had to wait a day to avoid strong winds that would be less hassle than maintaining a thruster. Reefing system need a bit more engineering. It has very cool karver hooks. No more worn reef lines. Seeing the sails is very tough with the large roof. I think this will be true on the 44 as well. You get more solar but need to crane your neck to reef and not rip a sail. My two cents. Enjoy.

On our Seawind 1600 the helms do get wet from waves on passage and we had to replace the port throttle and now one of the engine starter controls most likely needs to be replaced. Something to keep in mind. We are going to design some sort and of cover to try and protect the controls.

    Great pick, been following the HH44 since announcement as well. I’d consider the davits solar panels only due to less shading from boom but keeps your dinghy dry…ish and probably will reduce (how much? ) sun degredation. absorb the sun in your panels vs dinghy material.

So much money, heartache, blood, sweat and tears and yes, love and laughter got these two beautiful humans to where they are. I bet they will tell you every bit of the above mentioned is worth it. It will always be the journey more than the destination. Love you both from Florida.

    Congratulations the new boat looks to be an incredible modern cruiser. Given the dependency on electric for everything on this (and other modern yachts) would be interesting to do a segment with HH on how they manage for lightning strikes

    • @ianclarke8821
      @ianclarke8821 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My thoughts too. One strike and perhaps $150,000 out of pocket, plus a dead ship. The 44 looks lovely, but it’s a long way off a tin clock taking an oil bath.
      If we tech ourselves into comfort, do we tech ourselves out of adventure?

      @waterfaucet9926 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear about lightning strikes ALL the time in the YT comments….so does anybody have the numbers? If I go by the number of times I hear it brought up, every single sailboat must get at least one strike per year, maybe more.

    Congrats on the new Catamaran, this is a once in a lifetime dream build for you and I can see the exitement in your video. The "man cave" workshop is a great use of the space, the fexible helm layout looks really innovative and the dining area looks very comfortable. No need to store extras in the "temp" freezer under the dining bench anymore! You have come a long way since your first sail boating lessons and not to mention your RV days. Awesome choices all around for all the same reasons I'd go for!!! Plus a shop?? I like it. Having a shop onboard will pay off in spades and can reduce many costs spent at boatyards/chandlers where something custom might need to be done to or after a repair part purchase. The 3 most optimal tools to have in the shop, from what I've seen and heard, are a small hobby lathe to turn down/customize many parts. A shorty drill press which can drill precision holes. And a good vise when you need three hands. IDK what you might be planning or would use but that's what I've seen in many that once they learn to use they would never be on a boat without again.

    Great choice you two! I have logged around 500 miles on the HH66, and well over 1000 on Gunboat 60, and must say that I’m onboard with the HH44 as well.
    Curious though as to why you wouldn’t go with the SC model with daggerboards? Daggerboards as I’m sure you already know yield better speeds, higher pointing ability, and shallower draft…all reasons why HH would be on an experienced cat sailor’s radar to begin with.
    Regardless of what you decide, I’m sure you’ll love the new cat! Congrats!
