TWO MORE TIPS!
1. Get a big comfy robe
Great for after a shower and walking down the hall with your shower bucket and various other random things (last thing you want is your towel slipping off while you're trying to unlock your dorm room!
2. Invest in 2 opaque laundry bags you can either hang in the big plastic ones (easier to throw stuff into) or just pile on the floor.
Then you only need to bring the bags down... MUCH easier than the really tall laundry baskets I had! Plus then you don't have to worry about your underwear falling out on the floor or peeking through the holes in the basket LOL. (Also: get a big Costco-size container of laundry detergent and a small easy-to-carry container of the same stuff... then you can just refill it as you go and not have to lug the huge thing to the laundry room every time!!)

I'm starting my freshman year of college in a few months. I've searched all over TH-cam for helpful videos, and let me tell you: this has been the most helpful one. By far. By a long shot. Thank you so much!
G ' Z ku jk bbyg gh by.
Please do more videos about college, choosing majors, choosing a college, and dorms.
Definitely! I had a couple of classes where I HAD to buy from the bookstore (cases for business class) but everything else, especially the random credits, I went early to the used bookstore and bought them all there!
Well done RachhLoves!
In regards to storage I, personally, love the sterilite drawers. Target has some great colors & the fact that you can put wheels on them make them easy to move! I've been living at a church camp during the summer so that makes moving back and forth a lot easier.
Best wishes to everyone this school year!
They are! Finally upgraded to new frames over Christmas... I had my old ones since grade 10! :P
I'm so glad you added that bonus tip about having a robe! My freshman year, I locked my keys in my room while I showered and had to walk DOWN THE STREET to the main dorm that has the master keys in my robe. Thank goodness I wasn't just in a towel!
Clubs and organizations make you look better on your resume when your applying for a job, transfering to another college, or even applying to be a club officer.. whenever youre being interviewed or applying for something, showing activities youve been involved in helps tons
Thanks for the tips! It's awesome having a Canadian TH-camr talk about university tips because I'm a soon-to-be Canadian university freshman and I feel like I can relate more to these.
This really reassured me for freshman year, because I knew almost all of these tips, so I'm glad I could get some reassurance from someone who's "been there, done that" that I'm not going to be completely clueless going in.
Also, about the laundry detergent, I highly recommend the Tide Pods or something similar because I used to carry a huge bottle of detergent around but I realized that instead of refilling a smaller container with messy liquid, you can just take one or two Tide Pods in the basket!
I was a first generation university student in my family. It was pretty hard trying to figure everything out for myself, but with good friends, an open mind, helpful profs, great parents, and lots of food lol it was okay. Thanks for sharing :) Because my transition wasn't so smooth, I want to try and help others, like my sister, enjoy all their post secondary education time! Thanks Rachel xoxo
your first tip alone blew my mind....soooo smart!
I like that she actually tries to help us and not just say the same things that every person says... she is not like all the other beauty gurus and that's why I love watching your videos :) Thank you for the video!
I've been watching your videos for years and I'm about to go to college as a freshman! Im so excited and glad that you made this video!
You always look glowing Rachel, so beautiful.
My uni campus is very different so many of those did not apply but I highly second the "lanyard tip"... my keys were more around campus than with me. Thank goodness by the end of second semester everybody knew me so they were either left at reception or given directly to me. But YES Lanyard ! Do it !!
Rachael, I cant even begin to thank you for this quick little video. Going off to uni like so many others in the fall I've come across my fair share of "helpful" advice videos / lists and I can honestly say, yours has been the only one to truly make a dent. As obvious as some of your tips were, they were ones that we would have had to learn for ourselves if not for your video, so thank you for saving us the humiliation. Again, amazing video, wonderful personality, you've truly saved my ass.
Also bring a hatchet. They can be very useful for chopping wood or cleaving in a person's head.
going into dorm is a great way to meet people! Some of my first friends on campus were from my res floor
I move into my dorm next week at an out of state college and I was so nervous but your tips have definitely helped settle my nerves, thank you :)
I live in Japan, and I start going college from April. Very useful tips! Thank you so much.
You look so pretty!! I adore you makeup in this video. I just finished my first year at college so I really enjoyed this :) Definitely still things for me to learn to make the rest of college go by smoother. Thanks Rachel!

I'm two years away from uni and I'm obsessed with college advice videos.
The beginning of the video is my favorite. I always laugh until my stomach hurts! You're awesome!

Am going to a new college soon but will be going in late and missing a period of time. This vid helped a bit and gave me new insights as to how to organize, etc.
GREAT idea!!!
LOLOL I love this idea!!!
Couldn't agree more. Everyone needs to know these!
Such great & helpful tips! You're going to be such a great mom.
A great tip for those going into college that helped me is try to order your books used online before you try the bookstore..you can save so much $ that way..some profs want you to have the "newest edition" of a book but I learned that the book doesn't really change from say, edition 4 to edition 5.. save your $ bc you will need it to pay off your loans lol! Good luck
this was actually so helpful! Never would have thought to bring extra chargers thank you!!
Shower flip flops for ANYWHERE outside of home...I feel you girl.
I'm going to be a sophomore in college and I thought these were great tips! I wish this video was there when I first moved into college last year :)
If your school allows it, keep your dorm room door open. It's a great way to meet people on your floor.
Go to study sessions for tests. Professors will certainly clarify things and may give extra credit or test answers.
Study abroad if given the opportunity! It's an experience that is unforgettable.
you can get cable locks for laptops that plug into the side of your computer and then lock around your desk! I think they sell them at staples!
Such cool realistic tips that I will keep in mind when I move out
Thanks so much for this video Rach! It really was super helpful.
Also, you looked especially glowing in this one - being pregnant totally suits you; you are going to be such a wonderful mom :)

I'm leaving for college tomorrow and I cannot thank you enough for this
I'm starting at the University of Arizona in less than two weeks and this video was super helpful! Thanks! :)
Oh also, bring a blanket or pillow from home. The beds at college will feel really weird at first, and it'll be comforting to not sleep with weird-smelling new bedding the first few nights.
My favorite college organizing tip: Stick a 3M hook by your door for your keys. You get in, you hook up your keys. Need to run to class that started 10 minutes ago? Keys are right there.
I don't have any tips, but I just wanted to say that you look like a storybook princess! Your hair is so gorgeous!!! :D
3 more days till my first day of college!!! Thanks for the advice :)

Thank you!! Make a video about roomates pleaseeee! like what should we know before we pick a roomate.
Your face make-up is always so bright, it looks really good on you! Very helpfull video btw!
The flip flop comment made me think of something. As an instructor may I add:
- yes, you live in the dorm and your classroom is downstairs. Still, please set the alarm so you can shower, change out of your pjs and wear clothes and shoes (flip flops are ok, furry slippers not so much)
- eat before going to class. While often accepted, it's highly distracting. If you have no choice (classes back to back over lunch) make sure not to bring to class 'stinky', messy or noisy (chips) foods.
Can you please do a video on essential college supplies? That will help me so much! :)
Do a #5quickTips on beeing organized!
"get STuff to put Stuff in" hahaha, I JUST realized today that I still haven't done that!! I have all my myke up and pens in empty jam jars. Doesn't look as cute as I thought it would.

Yay! One of the first to see this video! I love you and your videos!
Thanks for the tips and I love these videos.
I like your positioning for this video, more in front of the mirror behind you than beside it. Not sure if this was intentional or not, but it looks good! Love your videos:)
I leave in three weeks. I know its different here in the UK but still, much needed information
I had a friend take her detergent and put it in a travel shampoo bottle, you don't need very much usually and it is SO much lighter :D

All that dorm room stuff is great...but I'm 25 with my own spot and car and I live 5 min. away from my college in ghetto ass Houston. I have an angry baby momma that's fuckin my paycheck up with child support. Me and her constantly fight which distracts me from school. This is my first time in (community) college. Any tips for that? :)
tf lol im 16 and in first year of community college
+Sandip Uzumaki OK kid that's great. Not everyone has the same opportunities as you do to go to school at your age. Different people, different circumstances.

You look so pretty!! I love your lip color and how you but your hair. Ahhh your so pretty. Can't wait to meet your little one
def dorm!its easier for access to campus and slightly cheaper
oh my god, thats a huge campus! Good Luck, and enjoy it!
I wish we had clubs like that here. I only see that in movies :P
I know this is sort of random and not a 5 quick tips video (which I do LOVE by the way) but could you do a tutorial and cleaning make up brushes? Like I know nothing about that and all make up gurus say its important to do! Xx
You look gorgeous !! That colour really suits you :)
