there's absolutely no arguing the fact that billy and stu were the best ghostface killers from character development to motive to creativity, even down to likeability - however jill came the close to actually achieving her goals and very nearly got a way with it; far more than any of the other 6 previous killers managed. Billy and stu are without a doubt the soul of the franchise and it would be incredibly hard to top what was created through them, but you've got to hand it to jill at how far she got and how close she was to her endgame overall.

True but sadly, her whole motive and Charakter was trash. I mean: she got jealous because Sidney became famous through losing all her friends, two boyfriends included? And she got so jealous and wanted to be fame so bad that she’s ready to kill all her friends and her own mother? I mean yea sure psycho and all that but please that’s ridiculous. Stu Macher's "Peer pressure, I'm far too sensitive" line, explaining his motive was meant to be funny. Even when revealed to be a killer he's making a joke out of everything doing his job as one of the comic relief characters. Also, I've never seen a comic relief character turn out to be one of the villains in another movie but someone correct me if I'm wrong there?

    • @geoffmoore1828
      @geoffmoore1828 3 ปีที่แล้ว +49

The “I’m far too sensitive” line is referencing a scene that was written but never filmed right before Stu’s party where Billy calls him a butt wart and Stu gets offended. Billy says something along the lines of he was just kidding and “im just trying to toughen you up, you’re far too sensitive!” The scene was scrapped because it was too much of a dead giveaway as to who the killer was. Just a fun fact!

    My personal rankings:
    7. Roman: mainly due to poor writing and censorship on gore after Columbine
    6. Mickey: Boring character that was "saved" by an interesting last seen.
    5. Charlie: Slightly more interesting than Mickey, and had the 2nd best kill of the franchise (imo)
    4. Billy's Mother: A believable killer with a true motive. She also effectively used Mickey as a pawn to eventually (almost) get to Sidney.
    3. Jill: While the planning and motive was better than Stu, it's harder to believe that she could fight/kill due to her size/fighting ability. The story around her is awesome, however.
    2. Stu: Favorite character imo. Just a crazy dude who wants to help his friend. Aside from the excellent writing, the first movie was so successful because Stu and Billy were so believable as killers.
    1. Billy: Motive, knowledge of horror, use of phone calls. This is the perfect killer. Calm and collected, but still bat-shit crazy internally is a scary thought. Stu was more obvious that he was crazy, but Billy had a sadistic mindset that makes viewers wonder what people around them think of.

  • @KingsNerdCave
    @KingsNerdCave 4 ปีที่แล้ว +348

Going off of your categories my ranking is:
    7. Charlie (Complete waste except to be betrayed later)
    6. Mrs. Loomis (Almost too forgettable since she wasn't integral to the story at all until the end)
    5. Mickey (Again, although a great killer, he was just a psycho rather than having a realistic motive and he does just disappear halfway through the movie)
    4. Jill (Yes she was creative, but her motive of wanting to be popular based off of surviving a massacre makes her seem childish to me)
    3. Roman (So yes he is whiny and forgettable as a character, however taking the ridiculousness out of Scream 3, he has the highest body count, works alone, faked his own death, had a bullet proof vest and that voice changer. So in technical terms he is the best at being a killer for having covered the most bases plus he was proved to be the cause of the first 3 movies so in essence he is the final boss of scream [It's a shame the movie had the gore turned down and the script rewritten])
    2. Stu (He is calculated but also hilariously psychotic at the same time)
    1. Billy (Even though he was the definition of it's always the boyfriend, he was able to use his knowledge of movies, manipulation of Stu + others, and violent tendencies to create a horror movie, seem more innocent than he should have been, and almost nearly exact revenge that he so crazily desired)

I like your list tbh. Everyone out here loving Jill a lot and yeah she was interesting and all that but damn she didn’t hardly do any of the dirty work necessary for her scheme to work. Without Charlie (who I legit forgot his name even tho I just watched The Who Killed Who for scream 4 lol) she wouldn’t have gotten as far as she did and the credit “got the closest to achieving her goal” isn’t really accurate anymore if he’s removed from the equation. Idk man it’s interesting how many people are hyping her up when she just seemed like a psychotic brat who didn’t do much of the leg work 😂

Well, I can defend Jill of being Childish because, well... she is a teenager (not my favourite killer, tho, but she almost accomplished her goal)
The other thing, I would never put Billy Loomis at the top of a list. It makes me think people just like him for being the villain in the Original movie. He was too obvious throughout the entire movie! Also Stu, both acted crazy, both weren't charming at all, and Loomis motives were... well... too basic (yeah, I prefered Stu's motive). I could give more points to his mother over him in that aspect... In retrospective, none of the killer were good enough for me as everyone is missing something (and I love the entire Franchise lol)

I actually figured out Jill was the killer while watching Scream 4 for the first time in the cinema. When Sidney talks to Ghostface on the phone (the first time I think),Ghostface loses "his" composure and says something along the lines of Sidney being selfish and not thinking about everyone she abandoned. So that made it pretty obvious according to me.

The reason why I ranked Charlie above Debbie and Roman is because he was great in behind the mask. He also has some of the best phone calls of the series, and I think that his reveal is one of the most creative in the series. It doesn’t beat Stu’s and Billy’s, but I like the suspense and how it played out. Basically Roman and Debbie sucks with the mask on and off, but Charlie doesn’t suck with his mask on.

For me, Roman was the biggest shocker. First off because he was already presumed dead... but the plot of him being Sidney’s brother & architect of the first movie, just hit me hard. I actually was really upset when he was killed because I kinda wanted him & Sid to have a relationship. She had been through hell and back the last three films I just thought it was rather poetic that she now had a (half) brother.

Sidney had nothing to do with that... Sidney didn’t give Roman up for adoption that was Maureen... so why would they want Sidney dead instead of ending it with Maureen? I see no point in Sidney having to pay for her mothers mistakes ... and Jill wanted to become Sidney more than kill her so it was never about Sidney... Jills motive was dumb, she did it all for attention? That’s stupid.

Stu - My favorite killer "My mom and dad are gonna be so mad at me" "Peer pressure, I'm far too sensitive" priceless
Billy - The best looking killer for sure, but it was the "is he the killer? No he can't be the killer" flip flop that does it for me. He was almost the "too obvious so it can't be him" choice
Jill - She really could have gotten away with it and played up the "final girl" thing. One of the only Ghostface's I had zero suspicion of
Roman - The mastermind behind it all so he deserves some credit. He probably was a lame killer because he didn't expect he would have to kill (Billy and Stu failed)
Mrs. Loomis - she was intense but had great motivation. A good twist too, didn't really expect that one.
Mickey - I didn't know his character well enough to care he was a killer, it wasn't a shocking reveal

I completely agree with your rankings, and here's why:
#7) Charlie Walker was a self-pitying, whiny jerk who basically allowed his psycho classmate to manipulate him into being her patsy because he was angry that the girl he really liked wouldn't make he first move. When she finally did, he stabbed her... though probably less than he would have if she never did. Ugh. He was such a loser.
#6) Roman Bridger does not fall into last place because he singlehandedly masterminded the Hollywood killing spree. So he has a brain. Unfortunately, he was also a whiny, self-pitying jerk who couldn't move on with his life. He was a loser. Plus, the whole "I've actually been someone else the whole time that you didn't know" soap opera plot twist is such a cheat when it comes to solving a mystery, because it's something we never could have guessed prior.
#5) Mrs. Loomis. Most of the things I said about Roman also apply to her. She masterminded (and financed!) the Windsor College killing spree, but the soap opera plot twist of being Billy's mother was a cheat. Her presence was completely arbitrary prior to the big reveal. She ranks higher than Roman because Laurie Metcalf is one hell of an actress, and made her character work in a way that Scott Foley couldn't do for Roman or Rory Culkin for Charlie.
#4) Stu Macher. Ah, Stu, Stu, Stu. Landed smack in the middle, didn't you? Matthew Lillard made Stu completely believable as a lovable goof who was also a cold-blooded sociopath. Two flip sides of the same coin. Seems odd, but it works. Not particularly menacing, but completely believable.
#3) Mickey Altieri. The highest ranking patsy on this list. Sure, he was just doing Mrs. Loomis's dirty work, but Timothy Olyphant gave him a lot of sexy bad boy psycho charisma. His young Jack Nicholson smile doesn't hurt, either. He's like Christian Slater's character in Heathers with a gym membership.
#2) Billy Loomis. I don't believe in giving points for being the OG -- just because you got there first doesn't mean you did it best. In this case, though, he almost did. It's low on the surprise factor -- if the killer had been anyone who wasn't as close to Sid, the movie would not have been the classic it is. However, thanks to Skeet Ulrich's intense performance, it's still a devastating reveal. This one HURTS.
#1) Jill Roberts. No Ghostface reveal was more shocking than this one. The pure evil coming out of a seemingly sweet and innocent-looking girl who seemed poised to be the new Sidney was as shocking as it got, as it was the second time tat someone who Sid was really closed to turned out to be the one trying to destroy her. Although Emma Roberts played up the brattiness, which made her slightly less compelling than Billy as a character, her shallow motives were very believable, and her betrayal cut so deep that for the first time even Sidney looked defeated at the end. Dark, disturbing, twisted, and incredibly satisfying.

    • @Matt-bs8lq
      @Matt-bs8lq 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

Definitely. The fact Jill did all of this because she wanted to be the final girl was great. Now a days where people just want to be famous regardless of what it takes on social media, it is very fitting. And same, I don't believe the whole OG points. Of course he was great, but if someone is better then that's it. Definitely was great too though.

Honestly, Roman is really underrated. Yes he had almost zero character development but as a Ghostface killer he is defenetly THE true mastermind and original killer behind the entire SCREAM franchise. Without him Billy and Stu wouldn’t kill Sidney’s mother, Billy’s mother wouldn’t want to revenge her son and without the massacers Jill wouldn’t be jealous of Sidney. So even tho his character wasn’t written the best way, he still is the one who started it all. I hated Roman. They tried to retcon a guy who'd never been seen or mentioned in the previous 2 films into the mastermind behind everything and it was stupid. Billy going from finding out about his dad's affair with Maureen Prescott, getting Stu to help him kill her, planting a bloody coat he was wearing in Cotton's car to frame him and planning to pin their next killing spree all on Stu if they got caught on his own to being retconned into only doing those things because Roman, a guy he'd never met and had no reason to trust showed him footage of Maureen's affair with his dad was just a forced attempt to make a forgettable character an important part of the story. It made no sense. How did he manage to record Sidney, Dewey, Gale and Cotton's voices on his voice changer? And since he and Sidney didn't have any scenes before the reveal instead of the shock and betrayal she felt after finding out Billy, Stu, Mickey and Mrs Loomis were killers she was just confused and wondering who he even was.

    1. *Billy Loomis* (The OG murdering mastermind. A sociopath that orchestrated all the murders and was the brains behind the scheme. I didn't really expect it to be him but I did love his and Stu's reveals as the killers.)
    2. *Mickey Altieri* (To me he was equally psychotic in both his murders and the way he instilled fear and paranoia into Sydney in conversations with her without giving the game away. My sister likes to call him the Sneaky Slasher.)
    3. *Debbie Loomis* (Equally as psychotic as her son she was equally a mastermind like him and used her cover story as a journalist to keep an eye on Gail and explain why she was close to crime scenes. I understand her reason the most for wanting to kill Sydney- revenge for her murdered son.)
    4. *Stu Macher* (I like to think his involvement in the murders was peer pressure but after rewatching the film and the analysis of Casey and Steve's murders, he seemed like he was a sociopathic lunatic driven by revenge- Casey leaving him Steve- who liked the thrill of the kill and decided to continue, being led by Billy.)
    4. *Jill Roberts* (I liked her storyline and the fact that she became so obsessed with gaining fame through 'new Woodsboro murders' that she was willing to kill her family. She reminded me of a new Billy Loomis as she even schemes against Charlie the other killer and kills him to look like the sole survivor. She even injures herself. She was delusional in thinking she be the new Sydney Prescott but overall she very nearly succeeded in getting away with the several murders she committed if she'd only checked if Sydney was still alive.)
    6. *Roman Bridger* (I enjoyed his motive to why he wanted to be close to Sydney but because the audience didn't see his character much it took the shock value away so it wasn't as good a reveal as it could have been.)
    7. *Charlie Walker* (I didn't like him. They tried to make him into Randy Meeks but it failed. And I hated him for betraying Kirby.)

I just love Mickey man, his movie knowledge, combined with his charismatic personality, just made him one hell of a character. Not only that, but he's also very creative with his kills, Cici's was just iconic. I personally think he has the most interesting and best motive, the man really just wanted to get caught, and get fame for his case. Although I know he's not the smartest killer, I believe he has the most brawn and physical strength of all ghost face killers, it just upsets me when I see people say Mickey was boring, like, did we watch the same movie? The only thing that kind of dumbs down the character is the surprise, like on my first watch of Scream 2 I was like,: "Wait, who is that again?" When they revealed him, man really disappeared. Mickey is my personal favorite, but the best has to either go to Billy or Jill, maybe Stu.
My personal list would prob have to be
7.) Charlie (Just the "nice" guy who is way to damn gullible, I would admit, I would hate this guy if he really existed.)
6.) Mrs Loomis (Like excuse me, what?! I though you abandoned Billy, you want to go on a damn murder spree when you find out he's dead? Unrealistic.)
5.) Roman (I had to give the guy props for being prob the smartest killer, but I think all Scream fans have to come to an agreement that this is poor writing.)
4.) Stu (I really find him interesting, like his motive seems like such a mystery, like was he gay for Billy? Did he want revenge on Casey? Or did was he really just peer pressured by Billy? Also, without Matthew Lillard's performance, Stu could've been just like Charlie, this guy is hilarious af.)
3.) Jill (I find her reveal to be one of the biggest plot twists of all time, like I was sittin there like "It's gotta be Robbie, Robbie is the geek, wait, it's Trevor, he wants revenge." I just thought as Jill as some weird Sidney clone, until they revealed her, mind blown.)
2.) Billy (He's so damn charming, then creepy. You had yourself second guessing if it was him or not the whole movie, like you were thinking they were trying to make it obvious or something, he has to be the most iconic and most quotable. I find him to be the most scariest.
1.) Mickey (Obviously, you already heard my speech on Mickey. When you put a colorful personality, creative kills, and a great motive together, you just get this awesome and badass psycho.)

    My ranking would probably go:
    7. Roman
    6. Charlie
    5. Stu
    4. Mickey
    3. Mrs. Loomis
    2. Jill
    1. Billy
    Reasonings:
    7. Biggest nothing character, weakest kills, even though they want to give him credit for Billy and Stu I don’t see it because of how well the killer in 1 were crafted.
    6. I liked the idea of them pretty much remaking the characters in the first one and making two of the remade survivors the killers. He only is above Roman because of Olivia’s death
    5. Stu’s Motive and the fact that he seems more like a pawn to Billy’s scheme makes him lower for me.
    4. Mickey was pretty low before I watched this video and you video covering who killed who in scream 2. I’m still not a huge fan of his motive but I can give it some credit to the fact that it is original. But I still hate the fact that none of the killers are present at all in the third act as themselves. I don’t remember seeing loomis in the 3rd act until her reveal.
    3. I loved how secretly smart Mrs. Loomis was. Seeing how she started switching to her left hand in the final act so the killings would trace to Mickey instead of her is really cool. Of course she only kills one person, so that is why she is here
    2. My knock for her is how immature she seems. But her kills are pretty cool, and she was a great mastermind. Another knock is she killed Annie from Community.
    1. I thought Billy was the most efficient and smartest killer. His ability to keeps things on schedule and adapt to when things could’ve gone wrong was good. Of course in the final act he doesn’t seem so efficient but compared to Stu who was very clumsy and it seemed that on most Stu chases, they got away. Even though there weren’t much, I loved Billy’s kills. His motive was also pretty cool, simple revenge but the addition that he didn’t stop at just killing Maurine was fucked up and cool.

Scream Season 1 handled the sibling twist way better than Scream 3. They at least made Emma and Piper form a close relationship with one another before pulling the rug from her and the audience. Also, I know they aren't Ghostface but different killers, but Piper and Keiran had my favorite phone calls. I feel like the dark atmosphere of the scenes the calls happened in helped elevate them. They especially did a good job at making the phone calls seem like it was Kaden James doing all the killing and dragging attention away from them until their final moments, though Kieran still almost got found out in Season 1, but that was because of other clues rather than his phone calls making it obvious Kaden James isn't the one responsible.

*(Request at the bottom)* I think I fully agree with your rankings of the Ghost Face Killers in Scream. I'm not sure if Mrs. Loomis or Roman Bridger is better but I wouldn't place them any higher than you have. Your reasoning and point system which determines their rank makes a lot of sense. Well done. I haven't seen Scream 2022 yet so I'm steering clear of any of your videos that may mention it until I see it and maybe several more times. You know one of my favorite things about movies is noticing the little things like easter eggs, clues etc that are hidden through the film. I love when film makers do that. But it's even more fun in any movie with a mystery.
Scream always had a dark Scooby Doo and Clue feeling and that's probably why I love the franchise so much. Do you think you could come up with a list of movies, especially ones that are horror, that are full of clues and abundant with easter eggs but not list said clues, easter eggs etc in such a video? Ones that are also half as entertaining as Scream is a big bonus. Hope you consider this request and thanks for reading it. Kind regards and creepy phone calls to you Zack Cherry.

What I love about Stu is that he is extremely funny and goofy, which is disarming and makes him very likeable. But seeing how much he revels in the hunt and the kill makes him more terrifying as you wouldn't have thought to fear him. He seems like the killer that will catch you unprepared and have you not see the danger before it was too late.

Hmm. Jill, 5 out of 5 is the one thing out of this whole list that shocked me. Haha. Out of the whole series she is the one that I easily picked out the most. For pretty much the entire movie I was going "Ugh. It is her. Can we just move on with the rest of the movie now?" Been awhile since I saw the movie but that is just the one thing I remember. I can't even honestly recall the reasons or why I was tipped off but that is just the one thing I always remember about it is that to me her being the killer was extremely obvious. Everyone picked out Charlie that I talked to who watched it but honestly he didn't even register to me because I was too focused it on her. Hah.
For scream one and two I can only look at for the most part in hindsight so Billy and Mickey always now will have the look of .... "Look at them, they just simply look like killers". However with Stu I do always do have that feeling of just feeling bad for him at the end. Just as the end went on and on just more and more of "Ooh.. Poor Stu. You're just being too likable but really pitiful as well."
Now for Roman? Just meh. Nothing really remarkable. Surprise? Yes. But a good surprise? Not at all. And that bulletproof vest scene with him being shot multiple times but just shaking it off was cringe inducing. A bulletproof vest doesn't turn you into Superman. I imagine after being shot like that you'd be on the ground in agony maybe even coughing up blood or something. Cringing ..Cringe or laughable. Maybe both.
As for Mrs. Loomis. A lot of that was pretty surprising. Though now looking back at a lot of horror franchises they really did like adding family members of the original killer in at some point. Some times as a protagonist and some times as the killer eventually.
So my ranking is pretty much would be the same as yours except for the last 3 maybe. I know Charlie would be last, then Roman. 4 and 5 would be either or for me with Miss Loomis and Mickey. 3 might be Jill then since beyond the surprise for me everything else was fine. A lot more of what a modern day version of the killers would be. It is possible for me should could of dropped down for a 4th spot and Loomis or Mickey move up one but eh.. I think 3rd is fine for her. And although I don't always like saying "The original is best". I guess it would then be Stu and then Billy as first.

    My ranking is this:
    7) Charlie - Rory underacted as he did in Signs. Again, brought a portrayal of someone who really didn't have much of a personality. Maybe that made him seem mysterious, but in the end, he wanted to live up to Randy, and he was no where close to him. Randy could have made a better killer.
    6) Rowan - Even though he was the mastermind, and he killed the most people, he was someone who (as mentioned) came across as someone who was whiny and arrogant. He may have put the wheels in motion, he acted mostly through a proxy (Billy) until the third movie when he became a spree killer. His motive technically would have been considered "unique" as his motives started before the first movie, but he acted in cowardice as well.
    5) Mrs. Loomis - This is a tough one to rate. But while she was a schemer, she didn't participate in the murders (except to gut Randy due to his speaking ill of her son). However, she did have a motive (she lost her son AND her husband due to Sydney's family). If she would have actively killed more people, she'd have had a higher ranking.
    4) Mickey - He was the main killer of the second movie. He had an original motive. He did most of the work... BUT it really wasn't that big of a surprise when he was revealed as the killer. He wasn't the one you'd least suspect. Mainly because he was a sociopath (not a psychopath as Mrs. Loomis described). He wasn't really manipulative. He didn't make the plans, he mainly followed orders and wasn't smart enough to realize that he was going to be double-crossed.
    3) Stu - (Personal favorite of mine). Stu was a follower, and that did bring him down a few pegs, BUT he is the highest of the sociopaths. He suffered from the same flaw that Mickey had. If Stu was revealed to be the sole murderer in his movie, it wouldn't have been that big of a surprise. He wasn't too torn up that a girl he used to be with got killed. He seemed movie obsessed like Randy. He had the demeanor that he wasn't well in the head. The only reason he was kind of a surprise was because the notion of a partner was a fresh concept in the slasher genre.
    2) Jill - Jill had an original motive. She was the one that was the biggest surprise. She had planned it out intricately. She killed her own mother and she stabbed her partner. However, I do find her motive to almost be almost TOO modern. Fame doesn't seem to be a big enough reason to go on a murderous rampage involving killing your own family. Once the fame was over, she'd be doomed to repeat the cycle, or kill herself. However, she was a psychopath, through and through, and managed to not only damage Sydney physically, but emotionally as well.
    1) Billy - Billy wasn't too big of a surprise as far as murderers go, but he and Stu both accomplished something that no other killer had done. They murdered Sydney's mother, framed someone else for the murder, AND managed to have a cooling off period of at least a year. So, they had actually gotten AWAY with murder, and suppressed the desire to kill for a whole year. That is something that none of the other killers on this list accomplished. All killers were spree killers (as they killed a lot of people, with really short cooling off periods between kills). Billy fit the bill as a true psychopath. Sociopaths typically can not go that long between kills, and Stu probably had Billy to keep him from killing again. However, Billy planned out the perfect way to frame Cotton for killing Maureen. Stu may have come up with the idea to frame Sydney's father in the murder spree, BUT only because they had done that exact same thing a year prior with Maureen's death. Billy taught Stu where to stab (remember, don't go too deep) to make themselves look like the only survivors.

I find Charlie's reaction emotionally when he kills Kirby makes sense because you can see a glimpse of regret in his choice that was orchestrated by Jill. Jill was his puppet master. He really liked Kirby and when she finally reciprocated interest, Jill had already taken them too far for him to go back. You can see that he really regretted having to off Kirby but he had kills rules to follow.

I’d have swapped Billy and Jill but that might be because I’m a sucker for Skeet Ulrich as much as I’m a sucker for Billy Loomis 😂😂

Stu is just amazing and needs to be back in the series like craven wanted to do in the 3rd movie 😓 The video store scene when he's behind Randy with a psychotic smile on his face is probably my favourite scene throughout the entire series

A thought: Billy wanting revenge: yes its been done and is THE motive for most of the killers moving forward so its been done BUT... if you think about it from another angle: definitely with the original its a satire of classic horror movies especially slashers. That's keeping in line with so many other tropes the first one did perfectly but still put it on its head. 90% of the time (especially pre-Scream) the motive for revenge in these types of movies was someone died years earlier & the killer knows who's responsible. In this case, it was, for lack of a better way to put it, much more "mundane" in the grand scheme of things that possibly could have happened to cause Billy snap: his dad had an affair and as is easily the case in many of those situations his parents divorce. I know it was just an act for him but when he said "You know... Mom's leave" like it was nothing that was the ironic part of it: YES it sucks and the reason(s) why sometimes suck big time but people DO get divorced.

Jill has 1/5 kills, she kills only 1 or 2 people. Charlie kills everyone, Jill governs only.
And Mickey was a serial killer before meeting with mrs Loomis.

Billy and Stu were easily the best duo, I'm just stating a fact here
