  • Today we take a look at the beautiful Browning Buck Mark Challenge Model. Comparing it to it's predecessor, the Colt Woodsman, and showing the grip differences between the URX, UDX and UFX. Then we take it to the range and see how well we shoot the pistol using the standard TruGlo fiber optic front and Pro-Target rear sights, testing with CCI Standard Velocity, Mini Mags, Aguila and Norma Tech 22lr ammunition.

    That is a very nice selection of the Brownings. I have not seen the different models side-by-side before and did not realize the difference in the grip frames. That was very helpful.

      Glad you liked it Frank! Most of the different grip frames seem to be something from the last couple of decades. Before that I think they were mostly the same except for a few outliers. I did a lot of research when trying to find a light buckmark with the thinnest grip possible for my wife and daughters. This little guy fits the bill. And it shoots great! I love carrying around my single actions everywhere to feel like a cowboy, but in reality I'd be better served with one of these on my hip. I'm much more accurate with them.

    I had a Buckmark challenge, loved the looks , reminds me of the legendary colt woodsman. I then purchased a 4 " bull barrel model and found it was easier to shoot well with less shooter induced flyers. It hung and felt much closer to my duty gun and can get in and out of a vehicle easier , being able to keep the gun/belt on with the shorter barrel. The barrel rifling on the buckmarks is shallower than other 22 pistols I've had, the lands are barely perceptible. Very accurate, not sure what that may mean for the long haul, but I was so happy with it I went and got a second one. Browning told me not to shoot hyper ammo it like cci velocitor or aguila interceptor which was a major disappointment though.

      Hey there caveman Jeff! It does look quite a bit like the woodsman. The thin barrel does have a trade off. The heavier ones can help steady the hand for accuracy and control the recoil for quicker follow up shots. But I specifically got this one for my daughter and wanted it to be lightweight.
      I expect they don't recommend hyper ammo due to wear and tear on the slide. However most of my buckmarks prefer standard velocity 22. But there is one that likes the American Eagle 38 grain high velocity.

      Both my 4inch bull barrels shoot cci blazer 40 gr., aguila super extra 40 grain, and remington golden bullet 40 gr. very well. Federals not so much. Been meaning to try Winchester wildcat 40 grain . The Aguila mentioned above has been the best overall to so far for me

    Thanks Tex Mex for the detail. I've always seen these, but being a Ruger guy I've always bought the Mark III. I'm considering selling off a couple of the Mark III to get a Mark IV. Probably will remain a thought more than a reality. Anyway, I like the different ammo test to see how they shoot out of the same pistol. Thanks again for the video.

      Thanks for watching! I had one Ruger Mark III I ended up gifting to a close friend's son who was getting into shooting and showed a lot of talent. His father on the the hand....
      I'm really tempted to get a Mark IV with the new take-down method.

    Great video and thanks for sharing. I do believe the contour you have is a URX not a UDX. That’s the URX grip set at least. My understanding is the UDK models are the ones with wood laminate grips. The UFX has turned into the camper models essentially which have a different style rubberized grip. This is true for the modern Buck Marks at least 👍🏻

      Thanks for the kind words Cody! I expect you are correct. I think I even correct myself in a future video or at least meant to. The truth is I have researched the models multiple times and I am more confused than ever. 😅

      Thanks! The light weight of the pistol makes it easy to take some quick off hand shots.
      A few other viewers have said the same thing about Norma Tac22 not functioning well out of their buckmarks. I wonder if they use a coating on their casings that make them stick and not eject correctly.

    You shoot well for iron sights. Also you have a Colt. One Colt I'd like to see/have is the Camp Perry revolver, it's a single shot pistol. Think they used to make it in 10" barrel. That's a Charger barrel. Be great if they made it again with today's Tech. Should find some Browning ammo for your Browning and see if there like peanut butter & jelly.

    • @texmexshoots

      Hadn't thought about the browning ammo. That's a good idea. I'll use it with my next review if I find any.
      I've only seen a picture of the Camp Perry revolver online. Those pistols are CRAZY expensive. They must be rare. Would be nice for Colt to make some new production. They did come out with new Pythons, so you never know!

      @@texmexshoots I saw it on Outdoor Channel. Wednesday Night at the Range. That be a great 22 to have. For a heatwave they say is having there them trees look OK and the ground looks wet. I found some back in March, two 400pks. Just fired 200rds of them, they did ok. Like to find them segmented rds by Browning, 50pks.

    What is your problem with the ammo you were hitting the center of the target isn’t that the object??

    • @texmexshoots
      @texmexshoots  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey there Shelly! Thanks for watching. To answer your question I would have to say yes and no. Yes in the sense that the ultimate goal is to have your ammunition hit point of aim. However in this video I was testing the precision of various ammunitions to see which one shot best (as in shot the smallest groups).
      22lr firearms are very finicky and will shoot two similar types of 22 brands differently. Some will group well while others won't. They will also vary in their point of impact. Even with the same bullet weights and speeds. So first I find out which it groups best (regardless of where it is hitting on the target) and then I sight in that particular firearm to that specific ammo.
      Hope that helps explain my reasoning. Take care and stay safe!

    • @texmexshoots
      @texmexshoots  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is an excellent question Jaime, I would have to do some research since all Cali legal handguns have to be submitted for approval. Many other buckmarks are on the "approved list", but I'm not certain the challenge model is on there.
