Really neat design. Very beautiful box. Thank you for sharing .
Nice box. I couldn't see it first time of watching
Beautiful piece and the bloopers on video makes it more natural videos with that raw natural DIY video , i like it
I can’t quite put my thumb on it, but there’s just something about all these videos that just draws me in every time 💁🏻♂️
:)
Hey guys, 19,000 views, and only 680 thumbs up? Lets take our hands off the wood for a second and touch the 'like' thingie!
You can do it!
Thank you, Skyler! And thank you fellow 'wood' workers!
GREAT project, I do like the walnut corners. That really accents the maple! !! !!!
Well done Skyler. Your Birthday box is well-designed, beautiful, and well-built. Your daughter will be pleased. Excellent work on the deep box joints and material choices...kunk P.S I really enjoy all of your videos.
I’ve been watching a couple of your vids lately. Your video and production are getting better. This box joint box looks great! I especially liked the handle inlay. Among many other things I make keepsake boxes as well. I use the golden ratio to size them, give it a try,
I also watched the vid about the $35 off cuts box you bought from bell forest products. Its contents were expect…..only a few large pieces that could be resawn for more material. The wax covered wood was very likely ebony. Collect as much of that as you can. Makes great accents in all kinds of projects.

I really enjoyed the project AND the video! Your daughter will love it!
A great project thanks for the video
What a beautiful box! Thanks for sharing!

Digging through the scrap bin - I LOVE it!
:)
Great job looks beautiful 🤙🏼
I love the finger joints with the contrasting woods!❤
Thank you
Damn nice!!!!
Lovely looking box. Thanks for sharing.
Thank YOU
Skyler ,THIS is my favorite Sawdust and splinters video so far . I have been a subscriber for about 1 months now and have learned some great ideas, tools and products from you. @ 7:15 You make it nearly impossible to focus on whatever it is you're doing.
Creative way to use box joints for sure.. It made the box, very unique, and you still got to use your trusty 45 corners. :) Nice work!
That's a beautiful box there.
Thank you. So glad you liked it
Beautiful. I’ve been looking for a design to make a funeral ashes box for my wife and me. This is perfect.
I've had similar trouble prying apart double sided tape, trying to jam metal rulers and other implements between layers. Love that you included that whole sequence, error and all, showing how you recovered.
Beautiful!!!
Thank you!!
Love the handle, Brilliant work
Thank you Rick. It means a lot to me
That's a beautiful looking box😊
Thank you
Thank you. Glorious box.
You are so welcome!

Absolutely beautiful box, love the contrast of these woods.....turned out great and you earned a new sub 👍😀
Awww, thanks Darrell
Fabulous!!
Thank you
Lovely box very nice handle
Thank you
Excellent video. Great to see all the steps and tips. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
A design I have not seen yet, and very beautiful!
Thank you very much!
Really enjoy your box making. Also like your use of the Osmo products
I like how you used dark and light colored wood
Beautiful work ma’am.
Thanks
you have mad skills! awesome thank you.
I appreciate that!
Very interesting choice of layout, turned out great!
Glad you like it!
That's a beautiful box! Nice explanations on all the steps and enjoyed your video. :)

Beautiful work
Thank you very much!
Beautiful job well done John 🇬🇧
Glad you enjoyed it
Very nicely done!
Thank you! Cheers!
*Great Job!!! Looks Good!!!*
Thanks for watching
My word, sensational.
Thank you
Wonderful video. Thank you for sharing your awesome box with lid project with us. Wonderful contrasting wood choice. Stay safe, happy and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia
Thank YOU for watching
Beautiful!!!!❤❤❤😘
Thank you
I would like you to do a tutorial on how to set up and use the Incra box joint jig.
Nice project, good video, thanks
Thank you for watching. Glad you enjoyed it
Nice project! I use a straight edge to align the edges when applying the masking tape. It makes it much easier. A table saw fence works well for this.
Great idea. Will try that next time
A great project. A cleaver idea for the handle for the lid. Could be adapted for use as draw pulls. Please keep the video coming.
Thanks, will do!
Great project excellent result i think your daughter loved it 😊
Thanks so much 😊
I am in a box-making mood over the last few weeks. Thanks for the inspiration and sharing the techniques.
I also purchased the Crocodile wipes, used your link. 🙂
Wonderful! Thank you for watching
Well done.
Keep it up!
Thank you Robert
Beautiful
Thank you
Very nice job, Skyler.
Thanks Mike
very nice wood combo. Great contrast.
I've got a Dewalt palm router just like yours a few months ago, I absolutely love it. Stable, easy to adjust and quiet compared to my old one that sounds like a cat who's tail was stepped on.
Very nice!
I like that box , and handle, going to try one, those lids are really hard to get flat aren't they !
Skyler, you have great skills! I subscribed!
Thanks for subbing!
I watched few of your videos. You do a very skillful and meticulous work. Thank you. One thing though , please show a clear picture of the name of stains or paint you use. 👏👏👏 Theo.
Beautifully made!! ❤️
Thanks
Yes you are 😂
She sure is!
Very nice! What you did with the corners is neat!
Thanks so much!
@@woodworkingwithSkyler You're so welcome! Have a wonderful life!
Great video, love the way you explain things in detail. You have some fantastic skills! Subscribed and just going through all your videos. I’m hooked! Thanks for uploading
Thank you for watching
I am learning to use my creativity in making boxes. I have more ideas than I will use and I enjoy seeing other peoples creativity.. I hope to use the ones I like the best. Your use of wood and techniques make great video for us to copy and enjoy. I am now a subscriber.
@SawdustandSplinters thanks for the lesson! Well explained as usual. Have you thought about using a syringe to removing the extra glue? You could put it back in the bottle...that stuff is expensive
Great job, its beautiful! I'm jealous of your shop. You have a lot of good tools. You should definitely keep making the handles, this one turned out great.
Thank you so much Kevin for your kind words
You're very welcome! Have a great day, and I'm looking forward to more videos!
@@kevinr1704 you too! New video coming out later today
You are doing great work . 17:45
what model dewalt tablesaw do you have ,?
I've subscribed and I've hit that bell!
Aww, thank you so much for your support and the sub.
Beautiful choice of woods. Love your accent.
Thank you kindly
@@woodworkingwithSkyler Where is your accent from?

I have to admit, I was silently freaking out when you had to use a chisel to determine which was top and bottom. I couldn't stand to see the result of all of your hard work damaged when breaking open the glue seam. The box came out perfect! Great job Skylar.
You and me both!
Thank you
You're welcome
Really beautiful I wish there was a better source for the materials than Amazon. That doesn't take away from your work though, I'm going to give a go and build the box.
Thank you!
Just found your channel, I have subscribed already!
Thank you so much Steve
Great video and project. Thank you for showing all the details. New prescriber😊
Thanks for the sub!
What model is your dewalt table saw please and does it take a dado stack blade…keep up the great content
We all make mistakes, that's how we learn! I love the color contrast between the walnut and the maple. The box joints were a nice touch aesthetically, just curious why you didn't use them on the end pieces? It looked like you had enough material to do that. Anyway, that's a beautiful and handy box!
Thank you. I used the box joints for decorative purpose alone. I didnt use them in the end because I was worried that might make the box too busy. So I went for a cleaner corner look
I love watching more women woodworking, or the younger generation. I saw all the dewalt tools and thought this was going to be a good video until I saw a festool and I stopped the video but I restarted it and was pleased that she had and used a dewalt sander. She made a nice box but the exotic woods and the expensive finish is too much. Good video.
I use sanding sealing (shellac) to sand the dust and cover all the gaps, let me poly, stain and oil the pieces.
Hi
I watched the entire video. The work is very, very wonderful, and it is worth watching and commenting
I wish you a good day, success in your work, safety and security
Greetings to you
Abdullah from the State of Kuwait
Aww, thank you so much for your kind words. It really means a lot
I did learn something new, thank you. Just my opinion, a very subtle round over would of made it a little more pretty.
I agree
I love it!! Never point your mistakes!! you are forgetting that rule.
So true! :)
❤👍👍👍
Looks nice, but I can’t figure out why you didn’t use the box joints for the corners????
That's a beautiful box! I waited to see what technique you used to route the indentation in the lid, but it was unfortunately not in the video. Haha.
Thank you. Here is a video where I showed how I did the rabbet in the lid:th-cam.com/video/BwNM76_NuJQ/w-d-xo.html
@@woodworkingwithSkyler Thank you! I just watched it, so thank you for showing it. My table saw can not use dado blades, so that's very useful :)
This is a hot show
Did you fill the gaps by sanding while the glue was still wet? If so, that’s a great tip.
Yes. Wet glue. The sanding will produce fine dust that will fill in the gaps with the glue. I use old sandpaper when I do this
Hello is carpinter woman execelent box
:) thank you
Very nice piece of work. How did you get started in woodworking ?
I tool a class less that a year ago learning how to build a coffee table from 2x4s. Loved it and been woodworking since then
Nice build and thank you for showing the mistake.
Thank YOU
I don't trust the angle gauges other than initial setup. I then cut one miter on the left side of the blade and the other on the right side of the blade. This way the angles compliment each other and you have a really nice 90 even if your blade angle is off a little. I also use stop blocks to ensure both front and back and the sides are all exactly the same length. You can get close by eyeballing it but not as accurate if you use stop blocks. Nice box.
Great point!
I do love you show mistakes, we all make them!
I make plenty! That’s for sure
Aren't you amazing?
I love your teaching and I am going to be paying close attention from now on.
Wonderful!
@@woodworkingwithSkyler And you are very pretty too.
Question. The mitered corners do not have any splines. I dont think that will be strong enough. Just my opinion
That’s correct. I normally do splines on boxes but I thought if I add them to this box the design will be too busy. The box was for my daughter, birthday and made it just to put an iPhone and her favorite candies in it as a gift. It’s sitting on her desk holding candies, I think it should be plenty strong for that. If it fails, I can always fix it:)
😳 OMG!! 🫠
When cutting "fingers" on the box joint.. your bending over to look at the progress.. seriously.. pull your hair in a pony tail.. your hanging hair is uncomfortably close to the running blade..beautiful box! Your daughter is very lucky!!
Does the Incra I Box require a college education for assembly and using and are the blades you have in the links required? Thanks in advance.
Is not hard to assemble but I suggest you watch a good video to set it up. So much easier to follow then using the instructions in manual. It seems complicated the first time you do it but once you get it it should only take about 5 minutes to set up each time. And lots of scrap material:). Yes, you need dato blades
@@woodworkingwithSkyler Thank you for your reply. :)
A metal ruler will give you far better measurements over a tape measure on these small projects.
Thanks for the tip. Will try it next time
Offering a couple suggestions, never raise the blade more than 1/4” above your work piece. The reason is the less blade that’s exposed greatly reduces the risk of injury if a kick back occurs. Give Natura finishes a try. They are less expense that the rubio stuff and don’t require reapplying it as often as rubio.
Apply a sanding sealer or shellac to your projects then lightly sand to remove nibs before the final finish. You’ll be amazed at how beautiful the finish will be. They fill all the pores in the wood so you get a silky finish.
When you’re gluing up sides of boxes put them up against the edge of a straight board this will keep all the pieces tightly aligned as you apply clamping tape.
Good job.
But you should not use 45 degree cuts for the corners.
You could use those finger joints for the corners or dove tail the corners.
I thought about that but the design would be to busy since I used box joints to add visual interest
@@woodworkingwithSkyler You could cut the finger joints on both sides of the black walnut as well. But the length on the ends would be 3/4". This would eliminate cutting 45 degree angles.
The corners at the 90 degree would be the same wood.
Years ago I used to do a lot of wood working. During Covid I decided to down size. Now I make violins.
I really like this box. The box joints were not for strength, only for looks. Interesting choice. Aesthetically is is very pleasing to the eye.
Woodworker to woodworker, I have one minor comment. I’d really like to see you masked up for sanding. Lung protection is as important as ear and eye.
Not sure about Osmo, but might want to use a mask for finish also.
Take care of your lungs.
Hi Bobby, thank you. Yes, I need a mask. I have a respirator and tons of mask’s hanging in shop but I have to admit I rarely use them. I usually open the garage doors and weep my workbench in the driveway. This particular day was raining…. However, no excuses… I should wear mask
@@woodworkingwithSkyler just want to see you stay healthy. Great video.
You do you boo lol
Please increase your recording volume if at all possible.
Will do thank you. Truth is I forgot to turn it on
