Removed Flybridge Seats to Trace Cabin Water Leak

  • Continuing my boat leak diagnosis and repairs, I removed the flybridge's upper helm seats. I think I may have found the path of the water that eventually leaked from the main cabin roof and down the starboard wall.
Next, I'll try to reseal the flybridge seating and floor and add drains to remove water that pools in the front corners. Stay tuned...

Boating isn't easy but the rewards are pretty sweet.

Have you thought of using tracer dye and a uv flashlight to find your leak.
I have used them many times for oil leaks and coolant leaks. The uv light shows you the trail to your source. Works great.
You also could try food coloring to trace your leak. Just make sure it will not leave a stain.
    Good luck

Good tip , thanks, for the time being I've been out boating in rather remote areas away from places to get such supplies, so doing what I can while at anchor. :) So far I have tried taping seams and then added tarping and it seems to have stopped the leak so I know the general area that I'm dealing with. Another suggestion was to put a box fan into the cabin and seal it up the best I can and then use soap on the flybridge to see where bubbles form. I know they use a similar method in RV using smoke to locate leak points. Add pressure and see where the smoke comes out. :) Cheers, Ray

Ah, for the love of the boat. I think you should clean both sides of that flybridge and make a scupper where you said it collects and connect a hose to maybe another hose that goes overboard. Any sitting water is no good on a boat. Good luck Ray!

Is that a stray loose bolt at around 5:10 in the wall?

Yes, looks like a screw or bolt that found its way in there. I also found some empty beer cans rolling around back there and some rolls of wiring. :)

The go to stuff marine sealants seems to be 3M www.3m.com/3M/en_US/marine-us/products/adhesives-and-sealants/ or Sikaflex www.sika.com/en/brands/sikaflex.html
