Yep I dig up repair and install water lines, sewer lines, and electrical and use the 2 rod method to find unknown water line locations etx. Works good as long as there is not any other interferance.
For anyone that thinks they may have a leak in the yard. Find your main shut off valve for the home. (It may be in a basement, crawl space, or a small storage area if your on a slab.) Turn the valve off, then go to your meter and check to see if the dial is spinning. If it’s a digital meter the last 2 numbers will be going up. If it’s not then you do not have a outside leak.
Locate your water meter(A)and the location where your water line first enter your building(B).Mark the straight line from A to B on the ground (maybe using white flour, dry sand ,wooden pegs etc).Measure the depth of your water meter if it is placed in a chamber below ground level. locate the most healthy vegetation (grass scrub etc) along the previously marked line. Carefully dig a 1 foot wide by 16 inches deep(go deeper than your underground meter maybe 1 feet extra) across the selected area.Extend your trench 3 feet on both side of your line. Find your pipe.Cut and plug your pipe end that joining to the meter. Turn on your water and see if there is leakage in your pipe(The meter stop reading if there is no leakage)Now you know that it is along the line toward your building that leaking..and the rest is luck..(retired CE) And ya water witching is good to be done during dry weather and if your ground water is far below your ground level other wise you might got water flow from other sources rather than your domestic pipe water. By the way it does help if you increase the flow of your water by turning on a couple of water outlet in your house and believe me the wonder sticks do tell you the flow direction of your pipe.Good luck. And do not use a very thick rod simply use the thinner metal cloth hanger as the action is more sensitive for life flowing water detection.(I do use my sticks this morning just to make sure what I said was true and It was true)
We had a sewer clay line pipe break which was under the asphalt which backed-up everthing in the house so their were absolutely no signs in the asphalt to locate the pipe or the break. We thought it changed angle at some point down the drive way which was in a fairly large area of the carport. My friend grabbed a coat hanger bent it up and did the same method as the gentleman in the video. He went back and forth across alleged pipe and marked the pipe and the bend by marking both sides of the pipe within a foot of each side of the pipe. He marked the route of the clay pipe for about 40 feet where the break was or assumed so. Plumbers came in trenched 10 feet up to his chalk marks hitting the clay pipe with the marks lined in the direction of the sewer pipe at the far end of the trench from where they suspected the break was and never even came close to the break. After not locating the break themselves, plumber's decided to try the spot marked by my friend and doug up his mark on the pavement and they hit the break within 1 foot of the mark and 12 feet from theirs. This was back in 1984. I couldn't imagine this ever working but my friend not only found the break but was able to map the pipe in the ground position from the house, turn point and down the drive way next to the cinder block wall two feet out from it. He nailed all of it. Should not be possible, but it was far from just luck. Everyone including the plumbers were off by 10 to 15 feet. He was dead on the center of the pipe the entire way.
Try introducing compressed air to the line. Given how wet your yard is this would definitely help expedite the process. Great job chasing the leak. I have also had luck using these rods while walking along the top of the service line. The rods will usually both turn to the left when above the leak. I have seen this response after I use all of my Sewerin leak tools to pinpoint the leak.
I have found water line leaks in the ground using a metal rod: I slowing walk over the ground where I think the water line should be: about every 2 feet or so I plunge the rod in the ground. There will be a uniform resistance, but when at a leak the rod will plunge easily into the soil because the water will loosen the soil. Try it.
I've done this before, had better luck finding where to drill a well than finding leaks. It also works finding underground wires and pipes. Not 100٪ ,but it works. It helps to have a clear head and nobody bothering you.
Even when you turn the mains tap off you will still get water coming from the leak in the pipe because of back flow from the water already in the house,
I called American Leak Detection. They filled the water pipes with gas, then poked holes in the ground to find where the gas was concentrating. It was $300 well spent, compared to digging up my entire water line. I also tried dowsing; despite comments to the contrary, it didn't work.
Ill bet if you lived in San Francisco you could be any tint of skin color and walk around with your witch stick in your hand or damn near anywhere else you wanted to put it.
Did you open the valves in the house to allow back pressure to bleed off? If all valves are closed the pressure in the system will continue to push water out of the weakest point like a crack or break. When you open a valve it will still leak out but by water level only. Anypoint higher than the leak will eventually drain until the water in the system is level with the leak height.
I opened an outside faucet that I did not show to try and drain all of the head pressure out of the house. It turns out I was wasting my time anyway looking for a leak. Thanks for watching!

Did you shut off the water valve at the service entry in your house? It may be the water in your lines inside the house. Once you shut off the main outside all that water has to go somewhere and I believe it may be surfacing at the break in your line.

@@bryansprojects3570 I really appreciate your reply and must have missed the part where you dug up the pipe. I just dug holes around a 25ft radius in my yard and about 24" down water would pool in from all sides. It's coming off the rainy season so must be ground water. I found no leaks on the only irrigation pipe nearby and even with the water off still kept flowing. Water is crystal clean too.
You didn't mention if your line was plastic or copper. If copper an electromagnetic locators would pin point the path of your water line. Then you could use a acoustic locator to pin point the leak. Even if your line is plastic acoustic locating would be better than witching. Witching is always a last resort. Don't get me wrong, I've done a lot of successful witching when I had to and I know it works.
I know from previous experience, my second TH-cam video, that the water line is buried in the same trench as the cast iron sewer line. I am using the cast iron sewer line to locate the water line which I am pretty sure is PVC. If you watch the entire video it turns out that there is no leak and it is just groundwater pushing up through the ground at a tricky location.
Apparently there is no science if you Google search. It is all subtle subconscious movements of your hand. I seem to recall from a college physics or science class that it has something to do with the electrons in the water setting up a magnetic fields . I have also seen it has something to do with the density of the soil where it was excavated to bury the pipe. So to honest I don't really know but it does work. I have done it in other places.
Oh shit! I wasn’t wearing a welder’s mask watching this video. Am I going to go blind? Seriously I can feel my eyes burning. Thanks for not warning me on the dangers of not putting on a welder mask before watching
I used the steel rods to locate the water line like I showed in the video. I never did find a leak, I think all of the rain we had been having was forcing water out of the ground.
Apparently Marty Feldman picked out my brain for me??? Really, here's how to try. Get your rods, try coat hanger cause I know they work. get some friends and a couple bottles of wine and snacks. Got to a park that has a sprinkler system , Hold your rods out and start walking. When they cross put a flag in the ground. Move over 15 to 20 feet and start walking again. Keep putting flags in the ground. You should see a pattern develope after a few passes. Once you get a Lin established follow till it hits a sprinkler head. Now, you need to do this with multiple people because it does not work for everyone. At the end of the day you will 1) learn whether it works for you or not, 2) have a fun outing with close friends. Pipes dont have to be metal to find them, I find plastic pipes all the time. I do believe they need water in them. If you're not willing to go try this then you are brain dead.

@@helichief I have same problem. Let me know if there is a solution. Thanks
@@vikings844 I rented a mini excavator and dug holes all around the area. Turns out it was just the natural water table. No pipes were leaking.
If you open the meter down stream of the leak it will just keep leaking
That was what I was thinking
Were you able to get the flow of water to stop?
There was no leak. The water was just pushing out of the ground. It eventually stopped.
@@bryansprojects3570 water doesn't stop leaking by itself
It had to be groundwater. The water meter was not moving when the water was still running out of the ground.
@@bryansprojects3570 Maybe your neighbor had a leak.
And 8 weeks later, we have the leak repaired!!!
Great spot to making a sprinkler
Can you explain the physics for this?
Apparently there is no science if you Google search. It is all subtle subconscious movements of your hand. I seem to recall from a college physics or science class that it has something to do with the electrons in the water setting up a magnetic fields . I have also seen it has something to do with the density of the soil where it was excavated to bury the pipe. So to honest I don't really know but it does work. I have done it in other places.
Bull shit .com :-)))
It's called being a democrat.
I think it's called the ideomotor effect
Use the Internet to search for it. Spoiler its bullcrap
Oh shit! I wasn’t wearing a welder’s mask watching this video. Am I going to go blind? Seriously I can feel my eyes burning. Thanks for not warning me on the dangers of not putting on a welder mask before watching
My dad does this with a framing square
That is interesting, most people don't believe this works at all.
Can I use silver or iron rods
Yes, it should not matter.
He is making fool.... But I must say go for it so that this man will be proved wrong
@@skjangra1 shut the fuck up
Looks like the only troll here is the guy in the video. At 2:26 you can see him move his right hand to move the rod back.
Güzel bir çalışma olmuş tebrikler 👍
Or you could have just dug where it’s soggy
It’s a natural spring
It was apparently and then went away completely.
Artesian well in your front yard. Lol
classic
What do you used to detect the water leak
I used the steel rods to locate the water line like I showed in the video. I never did find a leak, I think all of the rain we had been having was forcing water out of the ground.
Victor did you watch the video? My god
Am not sure
Dead on Found the broken pipe under our house with this today. I had to cut a hole in the floor and this landed me directly above the break
I am glad it helped. At least someone believes it works.
My grandpa always told me me only use peach tree branch Y shaped
I can believe that. I think searching for a place to drill for water and looking for a pipe underground uses different theories.
@1:45 is the precise moment I stopped watching.
How the FUCK does that work
What is the science behind it
It doesn't
❤
Can't believe he's using that "magic" stick!!
😮😮😮😮
Can you use this technique to find a wet woman?
😂😂
Never work for you, they are too far away.
Forget the silly witching nonsense and just dig like he did at the wet spot
nonsense
too voodooish
I can't imagine how brain-dead a person would have to be to believe that this works. LOL. Good story broseph
Try it out in a place where you know a metal line is buried. Let the rods float in you hands.
That's not real! That's not how you locate a water line! It was your hand that turned those rods
Just as I thought the pipe leaking water is directly under the 8 inches of water I’m standing in. 🤦♂️
if this works i will gladly mail you 5k cash!

🤣🤣🤣🤣BS
It's copper using
its fake look at his fingers u will understand what hes doing
Please delete this video for there not being a water leak. There are alot of us with experience that are looking for tips and the first thing we do is look at the meter to see of it is registering a leak. Honestly enjoyed the video till it turned onto a i can weld vid
Which material road use
This does work but all it is doing is finding a void in the ground so it will turn on gas line drain line irrigation corrugated gutter drain etc
Correct. It is finding something underground, you have to be somewhat educated on what and where you are looking for. Or if you read the other comments this is complete BS.
