I bought a 14' 6" Critchfield boat in 1999 and the salt ate the Suzuki DF40 cylinder head. Never again will I run in salt water. Lake Panasoffkee is very shallow as is the Withlacoochie River flowing out the top of the Lake. With our recent drought most of the lake is about 4' deep. Just put my 4hp briggs on a sears 3 hp bottom end. Well see how she does in the morning!!
Very cool, I hope you make a YT video so I can watch... Shout me out, maybe I will share it... Good luck and thanks for watching.
@@chud327 I'm stoked to get a reply! I've been watching your mud mower vids for years! keep up the hustle brother. and the motor worked out perfect! I'm in central fl and hit up st Leo park/lake just for a test
How did you go?
I wonder how would one of those motors, maybe a smaller engine, work on a pelican bass raider
I have a couple smaller if you want to try one out. thanks for watching.
U should route the exhaust into the water it makes it quieter
Good idea and thanks for watching.
chud327 of course definitely a great idea and probably costs less than a 4 stroke ob
fred here from australia need to know does the lawn mower engine stay cool enough not to cause any problems thank you
I think those Mufflers are quieter than most mufflers
True and sounded pretty good too. thanks for watching. Did you hear how loud my most recent build is? Sounds like a harley.
You need to get a short lower unit or build your transom up to raise the whole works up so your prop is not so deep in the water. That's why it's not planing out . an going so slow
Yes, I do plan to experiment with that, thanks for watching!!
Put a cage around the coupling
Good idea and thanks for watching!
Paint the boat camo like the motor
That would be cool and thanks for watching.
chud327 all good I’ve been watching your videos for ages
How do the barrel boats handle wakes from other larger boats passing by?
Pretty good, but I haven't hit any really big ones yet. Maybe next time we are at the river and thanks for watching.
Spectacular
I agree and thanks so much for watching. Now there is a fever to build another. thanks for watching.
@@chud327 I feel like I may be betraying the blue barrel boat group I have an opportunity to get a 24' 1979 on Pontoon boat with a 1976 Johnson 50 horse for $3500 it comes with a trailer canopy deck was rebuilt last year I feel guilty what Do you think?
does it stay cool to do the job fred from bundaberg australia
I never had any issues with it getting hot that I know of, planning to take it out again in the morning. Video coming soon and thanks for watching.
Love it !!
Me too, planning more real soon. Thanks for watching
Right on
Thanks so much and thanks for watching.
Hey chud327 i am in the process of building a mud mower it is an almost stock 2009 craftsman exellorator gt 5000 and i was wondering what tires to use turf tires just aren't cutting it for me
I love executioners, boggers, 589's, tractor tires, or what ever I can find cheap. Good luck and keep me uptodate on your build. thanks for watching.
@@chud327 no problem and thanks for the response it really helps out👍 ill comment on your upcoming videos as well and btw i love how you respond to as many comments as possible i really respect you for that and that is another reason i am subed
That is so cool dude. I like that camo on the lower unit. You going to duck hunt with it?
Thanks so much and maybe some day. I was pleased with the speed, now I plan my next build, thanks for watching.
That's awesome. But for the love of God where are your life jackets!?!??
There is a front storage box and under the seat storage, we had them in there. You only have to wear them if you are 6 years old or younger. I did wear mine on the next homemade motor run, it seemed sketchy. thanks for watching.
Your AMAZING..
Any water that splashes into your flywheel is “water cooling”
True and thanks for watching.
Two years later, are there any down sides to the swap
That engine started knocking, probably cause I had to idle all day in the rainbow river. Maybe it didn't get enough oil flow, from idling literally for hours. Ran great until that ant the engine has already been changed. Will try to get another video out soon and thanks for watching!!
What size DIAMETER blade ? How many blade ? What is the pitch ? Thanks
I am not sure, but I will try to include it in the video next time I take it out. thanks so much for watching.
In texas you need a title to register the motor as well as the boat And trailer. I'm guessing you'd still need a title for the bottom end? Or would you title it "home made" as with home made trailers. It would be nice to just mess around on the river like that but game warden would fine the you know what out of me, and those fines would set me back major like!.
I have a b&s 22 hp I'm thinking about doing this with
Nice, I am about to do it with a 19 or 21 horse. Keep me uptodate on your build and thanks for watching.
Me too, Have a Kohler Courage SV620 597cc 22 hp, Cant wait to try this on my 10ft jon.
Funny thing is this is probs more reliable than the standard outboard motor lol..😅
Please post a spec sheet.. I gotta try this
I didn't actually build this one, but have built 3 others in the past. I have videos of how I did it and I plan to build at least two others in the future. Thanks for watching.
You could possibly squeeze another mile or two if you trimmed motor .
Yes, I need to do more adjusting and experimenting with it and thanks for watching.
Is it still air cooled
Boat motor is water cooled
How reliable?.
Like a riding mower, air cooled
@@sebastiendurand9367 boat motors are water cooled because of the insane load that a boat has to push friction etc
I think that it may work for a while but it's always running way to hot
And it will overheat and melt down
I can't see it being reliable
@@benkalinowski5834 ive been running my 26 briggs on a 50 yamaha for about 5 years,2000 hours.......how much more reliable do you want.
And your wrong about why outboards are water cooled.
Water is more efficient at cooling than just low speed airflow....and since your in water with your boat and motor.....water is the natural choice for cooling.
Air cools from the outside, water cools from inside the block where the heat is being generated.
@@nickpellegrin there is no way that it will last ass long as water cooled
This is why cars are
Everything is
Don't be foolish
There is no way on earth it will last as long
Get a infared laser temp reader on the engine head when your full out
And see how much hotter it is
@@benkalinowski5834 im not gonna arguee with you,im not saying air cooled is better than water cooled,or water cooled is better than air cooled.
Just stating facts.
Stocks briggs vanguard series are factory rated for 500 hours of service.my 26 intek has over 2000 hours pushing a load at 19 mph for 5 years, some days are 8 hours running, both cylinders compression are 140 psi.
And i have plenty other briggs with many more hours, all original internals and not melted down as you advertise.
How many water cooled boat motors have you come across with over 2000 hours, and never been rebuilt.
My whole point is....your logic is wrong.
I have nothing to prove,i dont need to to answer your replies anymore.i only answered because i read your reply, and your facts arent facts, just your opinion.....but your trying to pass em off as facts.
My claims are backed up.
Btw.....water cooled is more efficient over aircooled,no arguement there.
Funny how 90% of moderen prop driven airplanes are aircooled and.....people trust them with their lives......you wouldnt happen to be an aviation mechanic would you 🤣
Btw....heres a fun fact for ya.....your cars precious cooling water that is far superior than air......its cooled by air 😁
i put a 25 hp kohler engine off of a riding mower , on a 9.9. Honda lower , im only able to get 6 mph out of it , any suggestions? thanks
If you can find a better prop or a bigger foot than the 9.9. I always wanted to try some gears to make the prop spin faster, but haven't done it. Good luck and thanks for watching.
That's thing idles so nice and low👍
Idles at like 2000 rpm lmao
Benjamin Gabbard 2000???? More like 600-900
@@adhdieseltech236 you'd be surprised. My guess it a bit off m maybe 1300-1500
Yes, I love when they idle like that! Thanks for watching.
no way and thanks for watching.
im on salt water wish my 150hp was air cooled, Ferries by me kick up a lot of debris
