My biggest dream is to fly myself there and experience it. Stunning footage. Jon Hopkins is perfect for this too.

Hey Jordan, I really enjoyed this video/film, well done. I’m a big Turrell fan, I live in the UK and am fascinated by the Roden crater. I dream of one day making it there. Is it open to the public/ finished yet? Or did you gain special access. Would love to know a bit more about it, Cheers, Pearce

Hi, Pearce. Thanks for watching this! It is not open to the public as yet. I work for the marketing team at ASU, and we partnered with James Turrell to create a film that would promote this unfinished work with the hopes of getting new donors and patrons onboard to fund its completion. Not long after we filmed this project, Kanye West visited the site, and from what I’ve read in the news, he wrote a fat check. ASU art students will have access to the site in what will possibly be a satellite campus located at the crater. Those plans are still forming, I believe. This video is comprised of footage I shot when we were scouting for the film. I had the honor and privilege of being given a tour of the crater by James himself. He is a lovely, fascinating and incredibly intelligent man. Seeing this masterwork in-person was pretty life-changing to be sure. A spiritual experience.

Pearce Crowley I actually work for the university full-time as a cinematographer and multimedia developer. I first learned how to shoot and edit in journalism school, actually, and everything I have learned since graduation has been on-the-job.

Pearce Crowley And I’m also so grateful that my employer affords me such unique opportunities. I never would have dreamed a shoot like this would be possible!

James Turrell is the God, I love his work and understand his perspective of light. I saw another video of yours called “we were young and beautiful”, after watching this video I’m very sure we all believe in same thing and light just simply explain everything🤍🤍✨✨

Thank you! I work for a university that partnered with Turrell to create a video about the crater, in an effort to help raise funds for its completion. This footage is a combination of shots from our in initial scout, as well as some b-roll that wasn't used in the final cut.

Hey Jordan, Thank you for sharing this video, I am always fascinated by James Turrell's work. Do you have an idea of when it is expected to finish? We invented a Virtual Sun using special materials and optics that bends light in a such a way that recreates the depth and appearance of a natural sun and sky in any environment day or night. It even appears to move in parallel with each viewer. We call it Innerscene Virtual Sun :) ✨✨ It is very difficult to capture how it looks on video~ Love your work!

I actually do not know when it will be finished, but the goal is definitely to open it up to the public one day - only when it's completely finished, though.
