- We all know that the Central Indian government redistributes the taxes that it receives from the different states. But while some states in the North - like Bihar - receive a lot more than they pay as direct tax to the Centre, others such as Tamil Nadu receive far lesser. This has led many South Indians with a sense of resentment against the Northern states, with the argument being that the Central government is actively discriminating against them. This argument is strengthened when you see the recommendations of the 15th Finance Commission, the body that regulates how much money is to be given to states. But the Northern states argue that historical policies have given the South an advantage. We dive into the complex history and policies behind this issue to determine who is truly right in the latest video.

I'm from Tamilnadu. Once i attended interview for a private bank (ICICI) in Hyderabad. I cleared 1st round at 2nd round 2 members were there one guy is from South and another lady from North. For that job they don't ask for Hindi mandatory but English mandatory in description. That South Indian selected me but at last he said,"Mam do you have any questions to candidate". She questions me in Hindi and forced me to talk Hindi even I told that i didn't know. If needed, i will learn. But she keep on asking,"Are you from Tamilnadu". Tamil and English languages only known by you. She harshly said you can't speak everyone with your Mother Tongue Tamil. Even that sir in the interview also shocked and rejected me for Hindi. I always see no difference between Indians.North ,East, Central or South all are indians but why North people behave like this.
No North Indian should ever be recruited in Tamil Nadu in state or central government jobs
But hydrabad is also a south state, how come they ask for hindi?

As a south Indian, I feel very bad when I see that most of the major projects and mega projects are mostly done in north India, even if most of the funding is coming indirectly from south India.

The real problem is that most of money which goes to bihar doesn't go to poor but to the bank account of politicians. South generates more revenue but hardly get any help from union government.

The reason you don't notice it is because these states are very good in mitigating the threat and taking all safety precautions despites the limited funds they get. They value their people's lives unlike UP,Bihar where people are available in abundance.

I'm also a migrant from bengal living and working in Hyderabad, Telangana state for past 5 years. I've real development (both economic and infra) happening here in front of eyes. States like Bihar don't really deserve to be allocated so much funds as they simply misuse those funds for dirty political gains, while the same could be used in a much better way to fuel India's economic growth here in the South. @@famousd3094 7-8 years ago the condition was almost same in UP also. But later they realised who they should vote. They got a brilliant leadership and today it is one of the most prospering state in our country.
Everything takes time and effort both. Moreover the current government of Bihar was not directly elected by their people. BJP made a huge mistake by contesting the election in alliance with JDU. They should have fought it as a single party and without a doubt they could get majority even there.
Also, BJP is protesting against this caste based census from the very first day.
At last I would say only one thing that each state has its contribution in building this country be it even only 1 percent. We have to grow as a whole. And rectification is the only solution to any problem not leaving it on its own.

He didn't talk because Maharashtra & Gujarat didn't raise their voices on this issue unlike South Indian states which had raised the matter seriously when 15th Finance commission visited these states before preparing their report.
Also South states has raised their voices through media which is why it has become South Vs North kind of rhetoric.
One main issue here is political parties, in Maharashtra & Gujarat - INC & BJP are major parties who fight in elections - both national parties.
In south Indian states, except Karnataka all states have fight between regional parties with strong communist party in Kerala. So South has strong ruling regional parties whose main focus is their state. So usually they raise their voices on these kind of injustice.

In South, states are United on this issue & raised their voices in different platforms and the main point is unlike Maharashtra where BJP & INC (both national parties) are strong competitors for power - in south they will not be coming to power in majority of states.
So the traction is more here & thus the issue is portrayed as South Vs North states. In reality, along with Southern states, MH, GJ, HR, PB etc are also on the same lines facing similar problem. So it's not just south vs North but the media sees it that way as mostly South makes the noise unitedly.

As a Maharashtrian, I can tell you that I'm absolutely baffled by these figures. We're not mad that our tax money is being used to build infra and RRTS trains in U.P, but we're mad about the fact that most of our hard earned tax money goes into the pockets of corrupt politicians. This is the reason why people in my state, both natives and immigrants have started resenting the Centre.
But more than that our opinions are not being heard, our voices have been silenced and our political representation has been smothered by the recent political upheaval that occured in the past few months.

We, people of North India, should accept our mistake that neither its people nor the governments of North India focused on human capital. There were not enough steps to promote better education and health infrastructure. And also not enough incentives for companies to set up factories and raise employment.
South Indian states have done an incredible job, and we should learn from them. And take measures to promote equality and give them taxes and representation they deserve.

As a north indian living in south India since last 15 years. I must say that south indians are very honest and hard working people. They focus on their education and development. To say that North Indians had a major contribution in the development of South Indian states is a big mistake. North Indian labourers only started working in Southern states only recently. I am a South Indian and it is only in the last 10 - 15 years we have seen an influx of laborers from the North. Southern states like Kerala have only their people to thank for the development their state has made in social, economic, and infrastructure aspects.
Yes you are absolutely right. Mohak got this view point wrong that it's only the North labourers who contributed to the success of the South. The migration of North labourers to the south started only in last 10yrs or so. Before that, you hardly see them down here. May be 25yrs down the lane, if he makes this comment, it may be right. But not now.
The other way to look at it is, the workers living in their own state didn't have any work or good business. But they heard the cheap quality of life and labour requirement and job opportunities in the south, which were created by the south govts and they migrated.
If they had opportunities in their own state, why would they migrate to another state. Leaving everyone and everything behind

As a tamilian settled in Mumbai since birth all states are one it's amazing that South is very developed whereas due to corrupt politicians in North who are interested in lining they have totally ignored their people
But the main cause of worry is after 2026 if lok sabha seats of South is reduced it will spell disaster as their political representation will reduce

Already in vote politics National parties are concentrating only on UP, Bihar, MP and Rajastan (Hindi Belt). if they win, solidly they will get MP seats more than 200. Wherein if we consider south: Kerala, TN, Karnataka, AP, Telugana < 100 MP seats. Just think. In vote politics 200 seats are more than enough for ruling entire india. hence always politics will be based on hindi belt. This should be changed. if Union govt, plan to decrease MP seats then it will lead to big riot.

If south seats decrease in 2026, I expect these states to secede or violent movements to start. No one wants their tax payer $$ going to others who can’t help themselves.
