I would put forwards the best way to beat "political Islam" is to see how the Qur'an contradicts the Muslim religion as it has developed quite directly. If it is clear more widely that the Muslim religions' monopolistic authority over that revelation is unjustified, any that still attempt to stand on it will be in a much weakened position.
Additionally, more familiarity with the Qur'an's clear principled case against the ideal of pacifism, homogenisation and deracination of different people's, and the Christian doctrine of the Trinity (Jesus and Mary eat, we are reminded, with all that implies) would also help us all de-colonise from default Western frames.
