Hi Anthony, thank you for the great video! I have a car that only supports Apple Car Play and need Android Auto conversion...additionally, I am looking for an adapter or AI box that can easily switch between iPhone and Android phones. Should I get the Ottocast MX or are there any other recommendations?
The other option is CarlinKit 4.0 (not 5.0), and Ottocast u2-x and u2-x pro. These should allow Android on a CarPlay system. But I’ve not been in a vehicle that’s limited to one to be sure they actually do this. They are meant to I am told. The Mx is a closed ai box so limited apps so it’s like an Ai box lite edition. Thing is about Ai boxes the wireless Cp/Aa will operate in a software way than on chip so they usually are slower to get in to them.
In a way yes. It’s like an AI Box so it will do this through an android software app than software on a chip like the u2-x uses. So there will be a little extra boot delay
@@CarPlayLife thank you for replying. I'm looking for an alternative to my Carlinkit 4.0 which can't seem to adapt to my infotainment native screen resolution. I was considering this one over the U2-X pro.
@@CarPlayLife I did reach for support and they suggested to try a specific DPI setting. I also messed around with the display resolution but for some reason the screen of my Chinese import ID3 keeps cropping the bottom part of the AA screen. I haven't been able to update though, because there's a bug in the settings interface when I try to check for updates.
Maybe try a different time of day. Sometimes their servers aren’t ‘ready’ but are at other wises. There’s also file update way of doing it but this is risky as it could brick the adapter if done wrong.
Hi 1) should we turn it off or cut cable connection when the car is not working , some people says it affect car bsttery 2) one comment on amozon says just stop working after 30 days return time. Did u face or heard such a thing 3) why its cheaper then u2air pro, this have more func right!
Hi, thanks for watching. To answer your questions: 1. You only needs to unplug it if your CarPlay usb port stays powered for longer then 1min after your car has locked up. Most do turn off and stop power to this port. 2. I didn’t face this. It could be heat related or poor cable. 3. This could be to do with cost of cheaper hardware inside, manufacturing costs, niche market for this adapter. Or selling to clear stock for an update.
@@CarPlayLife one last question 🙃 ; today i watch another video of yours comparing best and you pick carlinkt mini , catlinlkt mini or ottocast mx 🙏 should i prefer
I just setup MX adapter to the car and for some reason AirPlay isn’t working just CarPlay alone which defeats the purpose for even purchasing this adapter
Hello Excuse me, I bought an ottocast carplay MX device for the car, unfortunately, the ottocast carplay MX does not connect to the Nissan Leaf 2021 car, and I have a Samsung Android mobile phone, please help me, how can I connect it to the car?
Does anything cast video smoothly and in sync with audio with iPhone or is it not worth looking for that feature yet due to tech limitations? Maybe what I need is just a good wireless CarPlay adapter and then just watch videos from my phone screen.
That’s exactly what I would do. The mirroring or casting on these things are never great or when they are ‘ok’ they aren’t as easy to connect up to them as easily/swiftly.
@@CarPlayLife Thanks. I appreciate the help. I was between the MSXTTLY and the Carlinkit 5.0 and they were close in price but I went with the Carlinkit just because it looked like the performance has been adequate with start times but also to have the passthrough GPS seemed like a slight edge for my use over the MSXTTLY. We'll see shortly I guess lol
@SmartFool24 how's your experience with carlinkit nowadays? I want to buy an android auto adapter, and I am exactly in your earlier situation, being confused between MSXTTLY & Carlinkit.
Thanks! Still waiting for one that has gps passthrough and is not carlinkit. Carlinkit performance is quite sub par compared to ottocast u2-X pro but the gps passthrough has helped me many times when I’m in tunnels😊 so still kinda stuck with carlinkit
You might be waiting a while. Unless other makers of the main brand software reengineer or update their software you won't find passthrough on other brands. It seems the software CarlinKit started and then kept for themselves is the only way to go for GPS passthrough. So it's more likely we would see a faster CarlinKit than other brand adapters running software that supports passthrough GPS.
Problem is with Airplay - you can only mirror screen, you can't do simple stream, which can be really annoying, also I'am experiencing audio/video Lagg difference about 0,5s which I hasn't been able to get rid of.
Yes, casting would have been better than screen mirroring. It’s way more intuitive to do it from the app than through Mission Control etc. I found the same issue with video lag. I think it can’t be improved really, which is sad as that’s the main USP of this adapter.
@@CarPlayLife I'll be honest, I wouldn't have a problem to pay more money for better HW without lag and with AirPlay stream. What is the problem with simple AirPlay at all? Do you have any idea? Why need for mirroring anyway?
It’s down to what they can do off the shelf I think. Many of these adapters are rebrands, they don’t go that deep with their own customisations or software changes. So they have to roll with what they have on the SoC Supplying support for iOS and not Android shows there’s a limited software or hardware to keep this cheap. Sadly it doesn’t work all that great though in practice. More should focus on airplay and native casting from apps. Ditch the screen mirroring, it’s never as easy to use. If someone does that right they will be onto a winner! 👀
@@CarPlayLife you dont suppose you have any suggestions for adapters that can do airplay streaming and not just screen mirror? or perhaps any alternatives to this? thanks!
Yes. This is because you need to connect to the adapter over Bluetooth and I think this particular one doesn’t have dual Bluetooth to allow both devices to connect to it.
From all the carplay displays you have reviewed what would you say has the best lag free/fast wireless performance and bluetooth audio quality?

Have you tried updating the 4.0, I thought it has some custom display overrides in the IP config menu that might help with your display issue.

It really depends on what functionality you are after from the adapter.
Is this device can run TH-cam in motion mode when the car driving
Yes it does
You have also made a video on MXTTYL. Now, which one will you suggest to use for wirless android auto?
Do you just want Android auto or do you need the video functionality ?
@@CarPlayLife Just android auto
In that case there’s some better adapters coming out soon. I hope to have reviews of them out over the next 2 weeks

Sadly not. All these need a wired CarPlay system in order to work

I don’t believe it does. Only adapters that offer this ability in their config menu are CarlinKit adapters

Does it require software on your phone?
No AirPlay is built in to your iPhone to cast from. But the adapter needs a CarPlay car stereo system for it to work with it

It is laggy. Tried with both Santa fe Hyundai 2023 and 2023 mercedes GLC. Really poor sht.
This one is on the low end of the spectrum of adapter hardware. So it can struggle a bit hence its price
