    Thanks for the info on orange eye crossing, that's going to be one of the future project to create new variety of OE shrimp.

    I had dragon blood and put them with red calceo orange eyes. They breed a lot, but after almost a year, i have only spotted 1 baby dragon blood with orange eyes, i only saw him once... he disappeared. No other dragon bloods with oe. I also only had 3 babies red calceos with normal eyes, all others are always oe. Genetics are difficult, i gave up my experiment. They still live in the same tank 😂 i just dont focus on creating dragon blood with oe anymore, bc it doesnt happen

      The oe gene is so recessive thar after the first cross you really need to cross back with oe to get any good percent of oe offspring. You really gotta take out all of the non oe of one sex from f1 and cross back with the opposite sex of just oe only.

    Great video. Still learning shrimp genetics. Is it possible to cross the OE gene into a non tiger shrimp? Like a blue bolt or crystal?

      @thegardenofeder  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes that is how we got a lot of the new varieties we see today

    Any update on your OE project? Were you able to create the strains you were hoping?

      The last video we just posted on the new rack goes over most of the oe projects and if you check out our ig or fb you can see some nice photos of our current progress

    Are your tanks 10 gal? Would you do a different size knowing now or are ten gallons good for a shrimp tank wall?

    • @thegardenofeder
      @thegardenofeder  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ten gallon is the perfect size for selective breeding. Smaller than 10 gallons is not ideal for growth and harder to keep parameters stable. We're building a rack for 100 ten gallon tanks right now.

    So, given that 1/4 if F1 have no OE but carry the gene, and 1/4 have no OE and dont carry the gene, wouldnt it be best to just cull every non-OE shrimp from F1?

    • @thegardenofeder
      @thegardenofeder  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure what the original cross was but f1s will 100% have the oe gene if both parents have the oe gene present then 100% of them will have the oe. If one of the parents had 0 oe genes the all of the offspring would have normal eyes but would have oe genes they can pass onto the next generation
