  • Unboxing collab description
    Today we received a package from one of our moderators and a great friend, Crypt Keeper Aquatics, and we want to show you not only what we received, but also how it was sent. We are going to share our full analysis on how this was packed up, as this was Tim’s very first time shipping shrimp. There are a few opportunities for Tim to pack these better in the future, so I hope this also helps you to learn how we like to pack live shrimp, and why we do those things.
    If you have any other comments or critique on how these were packed, let us know in the comments section below!!

      12:14 Sometimes things just happen. I hand carried a box filled with a ceramic nativity scene, from Panama, only to have a guy (working on floor tile), hit the box I was carrying with a hammer (since the box I used was one that normally carried preserved food packets, he thought it funny to hit it with the hammer), when I was less than thirty feet to my destination...after traveling hundreds of miles.

    I'd suggest using a hot-wire cutter to get nice clean edges on the styro and to make them fit nice and tight. Also, when using styro, you have to make sure that it allows the box to close flat. I undersize the height on the stryo sides by a teeny-tiny fraction of an inch so the boxes don't get deformed and close nice and flat and stay square and true to shape. I also use 200lb ECT (edge crust test) boxes. They cost a few nickels more per box, but do add some rigidity and insurance against crushes and tears. Totally agree that air is a poor insulator and it's better to pack the empty space in the box with newsprint.

    • @thegardenofeder
      @thegardenofeder  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd still prefer just to wrap in strait newspaper than worry about any Styrofoam

      @tolstoy21 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thegardenofeder Total understand that. In my case, I ship mostly apistos and live in the northeast where the winters can get pretty cold. Shrimp are a little more forgiving with low temps.

    • @chia_pet7121
      @chia_pet7121 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tolstoy21 I'd suggest using the foil backed foam. It does make a difference.

    Question:
    I know this seems irrelevant, but do you have amphipods and bladder snails for sale? I figure that they commonly come in with shipments of aquatic plants and that you've come across them.
    Thanks in advance! God bless.

    • @thegardenofeder
      @thegardenofeder  ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe in the future we will have some on the site but at the moment they are really only in our ponds outside and they are fish ponds so not many scuds and the puffers get most of our pest snails.

    • @avonavians2860
      @avonavians2860 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thegardenofeder Thanks for the reply! It sounds like you've got quite an ecosystem going on in those ponds.

    Do snails eat shrimp? I bought 10 cherry shrimp and only had guppies and snails in my tank and the shrimp all disappeared.

    • @ErikWhyRock
      @ErikWhyRock ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Snails do not, but guppies will definitely eat shrimp
