You don't need to hold the volume down button at all. Just hold the power button while it's turned off after you plug it in. Or better yet perform a hard reset and continue to hold the power button while it's plugged in to boot it into recovery mode

what you can do if your Iphone auto turns back on is wait for the download to finish then just put iphone back into recovery mode so the computer can install or factory reset the phone

Is there a way to restore my Iphone XR without itunes? I guess itunes isn't supported on mac anymore and my iphone xr is frozen and the screen doesnt work when you try to put the passcode in. I wanted to factory reset it but I'm not sure how to now that itunes isn't available.
