At the landscaping company I work for we have bought a few of the off band chinese motors at harbor fright over the past 5 years, they have been great with no failures at 1/3 the cost of a honda.

I have a r 180. Ive put so many hrs on it that its not even funny. Yes i rebuilt it but i bought it ten years ago and the cylinder still had cross hatch pattern in the cylinder wall. Just barely a sign of a ring groove at the top. I just re ringed it with new rod bearing and head gasket. She putters like new. The smoke smells awesome runnin vegitable oil in it. hehe love that little engine. Id give anything to get my hands on a couple more! I dont much care fore chinese products but i gotta say these engines are the coolest thing. Im retiring it from being an APU on my semi and am going to use it for a belt driven water pump to fill fish ponds now. Should save me on fuel. Itll run 6-8 hrs on the aprox 1.5 gal tank. Its well prooven far as im concerned. Thats my chinese diesel story.

Mine is only about three years old now, but it fires immediately on the crank, or starter. It clatters and rumbles but it is still going. Its no Yanmar or Kubota, but then its not meant to be. You are right, there's a heap of Chinese stuff out there that's not much good, but these rough old things just keep going.

I grow up seeing these engines beat hard and abused, they are rock solid, ppl use it to tow xx tons of bricks and rocks, sands... yes, overloading is very common in China, something can't be imagined in the US with something only 12HP ...

Lets add K&N full flow filterchargers, a Yoshimura full flow exhaust, Carillo rod, Wiseco Piston, a decent Oil cooler to the system and watch her rock and roll !

Hi again PatrickThe Baptist. I personally don't run this one on WVO/WMO, but there are people who have done so, and I think, with success. I believe they will run on pretty much anything as long as its sufficiently processed. I think that 'blends' are the most common form for these engines. The genny( which I still have to upload vid 5, running with a load ) is mainly for standby, but when I move to 'stand alone' eventually, it will probably get a bit more use. Up til now its done about 107 Hrs without a hiccup. The engine is rated at 12HP/1Hr, 11HP/Cont and drives a 6.12 kva Stamford copy genhead. 4.5-4.6 kw and it will run all day with a clear exhaust, but if you get up to about 5kw or better, she starts to grunt a bit, and show a slight haze from the exhaust. With regular Summer diesel and about 2.5kw of load, it will use about 600ml of fuel, per hour from its 8 lt tank.
One point of weakness with these engines, is their cooling system. At some point, I will change it to an automotive style radiator, but with a bit of careful preparation ( Jap bearings in fan and tensioner, Dayco belt, new PROPER gaskets for rad to block and careful sealing and tightening down of the rad bolts, it has given no issues or leaks, even in 40 deg Celcius + days.
With these engines, in my experience ( which isn't much ) a bit of pre use fettling goes a long way towards a reliable engine.
Anyway, cheers and God bless from Downunder,
    Mike.

I don't know why many people from outside Asia hate Chinese diesel, I think Chinese diesel is pretty good because i have it too! I have a 24 hp Jiangdong engine for rice milling, the engine is pretty good and lasts almost 10 years, but that doesn't mean there is no broken part, But I think it's okay because I bought it at a cheap price so I get not as good quality as Yanmar, but if I buy Yanmar I have to save more money haha

There are many companies making any given model/design single cylinder engine in China. The quality probably varies tremendously between companies. So, it pays to do your research into the company and it's production methods and quality control standards. Today many Chinese industrial products represent increadible value for the money... not unlikely that we will some day look upon this a "golden age" of industrial product production...with costs being insanely low.

Nice looking engine,,,, I’ve seen some comments about Chinese engines being junk,,,,if they were complete and total junk they’d have to shut the Chinese factory down that makes them as nobody would ever buy them,,,,I have an old McCallaugh( probably spelled wrong) yellow generator I bought from Tsc with an 11 hp Chonda,,,, Honda clone The thing is a champ I’m going to have to figure out what I’m going to do with the engine whenever the gen head wears out,,, that old 11 hp engine is a strong runner doesn’t use hardly a drop of oil very heavy duty If I had your diesel engine I’d probably look around for an older Ford garden tractor or an older John Deere that takes the horizontal shaft engines and put your Chinese job right on it

    • @harrothepilot
      @harrothepilot  6 ปีที่แล้ว

Cool. Yeah, it seems to be all the rubbish they hang off the engine, that tends to fail. The 'long' engine itself is pretty bullet proof. A lot of them see duty in some pretty engine unfriendly environments.

Ces moteurs asiatiques sont la copie plus ou moins bonne et juste des anciens moteurs allemands, autrichiens,etc....le plus notable étant le Jenbach.... machine immortelle et sans égale.... Au revoir...

There are off-grid people with tens of thousands of hours on these engines. You have to run hopper cooling, though and the cheap gaskets and rubber parts need to be upgraded. The basic engine is rock solid.

+scdevon Very true, its the bolt on stuff that can be suspect, and need to be changed/altered. The engine itself seems pretty tough.

Yanmar copycat. I love Japanese engines. China engines are junk. See this video is a new China-made engine but so many unusual cluttering sounds can be heard? The compression is weak.

Ok. This is a clone of an OLD yanmar. There are/were a million little handle steered tractors and tillers used all over china from the time of the cultural revolution ( 60's) on and they all used a motor like this...so they didn't just start making them yesterday. Do your research. pick the right company, listen to American users about what needs upgrading. If the metallurgy and the tolerences are good, then it has the potention to last a very very long time..with knowledgable owners.
