Not many people know this but Matt's videos are not sped up, he just walks around and works at that speed when he's on a project.
Just slows it down occasionally for us simpletons to learn from 😉👍

IF you plan to use the jig a lot, put a flat on that inner slug as eventually those pinch bolts will raise a burr and it will be a hassle to get the slug moving smoothly.

Hi Matt, lovely job so far.
Just a small observation (not a criticism), the two rods should have about a 10mm flat machined down their length where the locking bolts come in contact through the locating tube.
The last thing you want is not to be able to adjust the rods again, because of the burr thrown by the bolts meeting the rod while being overzealously cranked down has locked them in place.
Cheers, again and keep up the great videos. 👍👍😁🤟

  • @watahyahknow

one thing you could do different with the way you made it is make the adjustable plugs a bit longer and tread them all the way trough , you mount them in the pipe with a treaded rod in the middle of them , that way the plugs can't move in once tightened and you dont stand the change of the width changing on you like could happen when setting the plugs with a set screw in the side when you force something in place , could allso make a piece of pipe the right length and slip that in the bigger pipe with the plugs to keep it the required width

Matt, have you considered making a limited number of frames from this jig? Most of the time in this project is going to be in creating the tooling and once that is ready you could probably make two or three in not much more time than one. Easy to sell I would guess as well. That's how Henry Ford and Soichiro Honda got started.

Just curious about the plasma cutter, the ones I've used in the past the bottom tray is always full of water, I assumed it was to capture some of the fumes/dust and keep the heat out of the work piece. Is the water not really required, or is it just dependent on the type of plasma cutter.

You may want to machine some flats on those solid pieces for the clamping bolt to seat. Plus whatever burr it raises, and it will, won't impede easy adjustment or removal.

It would have been better to true the tube and turn the shaft down to fit instead of boring out the tube.
Being thinner the tube will distort more when the locks are tightened and due to heat from welding.
It will only be a little bit of movement but with jigs a little bit in one spot can mean a lot in another.
