  • In this video I build a rotating motorcycle chassis jig. Two electric motorcycle builds are following this immediately so if you're interested in seeing them then make sure to subscribe to the channel. Free plans for this jig can be found at the link below.

    I made my jig a bit shorter than it should have been and can only build chassis' for bikes with up to a 55" wheelbase, but I can splice some tubing in later if/when the need calls for it. I added another 12" to the plans so that anyone using them for reference won't have the same problem. I remember your older videos have no voice over.
      It's better to listen than to read text that might not last long enough.

      Neat. This answers my question. Am interested to know how you managed to guarantee that the head tube angle was perfectly inline with the axis. Seems to me that is a precision part that’s crucial to the accuracy of the final steering alignment. I would prefer the |_| shaped part to be made from bright square internal U section material, with the side pivot holes precision drilled.
      Thank you for sharing.

    While I greatly enjoy your attention to details and drive to build your own projects and tools.
    My 5 year old daughter LOVES your videos because they have a similar theme to many of the videos she watches with the high tactile clicks and other noises where they build Lego and those little magnetic colored blocks
    Keep it up, looking great

    What is better than watching a craftsman exhibit their art? Thanks for sharing the process and plans for those so inclined. I myself cant wait to see the next project. Was enjoying the electric build too. How about a build using electric golf cart rear end and a lithium battery. Maybe a little longer wheelbase, lower seating, better suspension, disc brakes etc. The parts availability is phenomenal for conversions. Great for neighborhood cruising? Just a hint ;-)

    Awesome build as always. Simple and elegant. I think I want to make a jig for my electric airplane build. Do you think using Teflon or Brass bushing on the wheels would increase the load rating?

    ✋ *Hi, friend..*
    *I have a thought like this, you are in the field of electric propulsion automotive. how can you use the dynamo rotation on the wheel/axle to be used as a means of generating electricity for charging to the backup battery (( you need 2 units of battrey to be used alternately with the automatic disconnect system/fuse, when the main battery runs out immediately move to the backup battery) & the main thing is that it is automatically re-charged )) and continues like that until it becomes an eternal electric-powered vehicle. you don't have to stop for a long time recharging public facilities battrey.*
    🙏 _Greetings from INDONESIA_

      Thanks. Literally mentioned at the beginning of the video. A 6ft length of that tubing is over 5x stronger than the entire weight of a typical motorcycle. But this is a chassis building jig, NOT a motorcycle stand or lift (which are far less robust) for supporting an entire motorcycle. These are different things. An entire motorcycle obviously won't fit. Part of the reason the spindle is offset is for balance, I'm turning it with two fingers. Easy. But that's just a convenience. It doesn't need to be balanced let alone perfectly balanced. Motorcycle frames only weigh 20-30 lbs unless we're talking big cruisers which are still only around 50-80 lbs. My portable jobsite table saw weighs more than that. It's enough to pinch a finger, but not near enough to kill someone. This jig is child's play.

      As I mentioned in the video, this jig is very similar to every other rotating jig, commercial or not. Check out chop source - they make the kits that I also mentioned. Very popular among pro builders. But what does anyone else know? You chimed in with perfectly logical armchair assumptions without even watching or consulting a load table.

    • @JamesBiggar
      @JamesBiggar  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Right. And neither I nor Mauricio were talking to you. Yet here you are, getting upset and responding to me for answering Mauricio's question and correcting your assumptions so that he and others know better. I'm not sorry that upsets you. This isn't about you. You're just making it about you because you're upset.
