The New Ruger Security 380 is Rugers response to the Shield EZ market! How does it stack up and compare? Is it a better option in the easy to manipulate market?

Everyone who reviews this gun says the same crap-that it is for people with weak hands, old people, or women. I just bought one of these a couple of weeks ago. It does have a lite rack. That’s nice. But it is first and foremost an excellent small gun. I normally carry a 1911 in .45. I don’t need a gun that is easy to rack. I wanted a small backup gun and the Ruger Security 380 is what I chose. The sights are great. It has a nice trigger. It is accurate and reliable. If you put the right ammo in it (like Underwood Extreme Defender) it has plenty of power and penetrates adequately. You guys need to stop saying the gun is for weak old people or weak women who can’t rack a normal slide. Those people might like the gun and that is good. Those folks need a good handgun. But it is a good gun for lots of reasons other than being too frail to use a normal handgun.
I agree sir I never said it’s only for those people. However that is the audience that Ruger and S&W specifically are targeting with these. That is in no way putting down the pistol for anyone. Like I said in video, I truly like the pistol. Have a great day and thanks for watching!
If you're using a 1911 as proof you don't need a light racking firearm that's not really a good example. 1911s aren't very hard to rack due to its size and it being hammer fired. The comparison is for other small concealed carry weapons. Those have extremely heavy springs. Both my wife and sister-in-law are petite and struggle with them. And these firearms are specifically designed for people like them.

The “ windows” in the slide are for weight reduction… the 380 is a low pressure round… not just a short 9mm … its a mini 45 acp …so it is low pressured
The Security 380 has a Browning style lock up .. usually in a larger 380 .. they are sometimes a fixed barrel blowback , which require a strong spring… and have increased recoil ..
so thats why the weight of the slide is reduced… Titanium is very expensive.. so the weight is reduced with cuts and holes
One of the selling points of this pistol is .. reduced recoil for quick and accurate followup shots.. four pills in the boiler from a 380 is better than one from a 9mm
Just got mine. It won't replace my 9mm Hellcat for concealed carry but I couldn't resist the 15+1 capacity in 380 so it's now in my collection, most likely for Range use if anything.
Yeah for 380 it’s a very viable options and great pistol for sure.
I have both the Ruger Security 380 and the SW 380EZ. Very similar and both very good performers. I highly recommend both guns.

If either had optics mount and the later more capacity it would be perfect. Maybe when an equalizer 380 comes out.
I'm a lefty male with above average hand strength and decades of shooting experience. This gun is not supposed to be designed for me, but I still love to shoot my Security .380. I need a holster! Ordering a Muddy River holster for it.

I don't like this trend of making the magazine part of the grip. It changes nothing as far as carrying it because you are obviously going to have one mag or the other while carrying. Just make the shortest mag the flush fit length of the grip and leave the extension to the extended mags. I noticed the same thing with the new Canik. IWI got it right with the Masada Slim. I want a complete grip even when the pistol is unloaded.
Just personal preferences, as there are plus and minus to each one. Masada slim is a great pistol though!
I just wasn't accurate with the S&W 380 EZ. I'm looking forward to this Ruger.

I purchased the Ruger security 380 based on the positive reviews and the overall functionality of the firearm also I bought on sale for under 300 beans. Only problem I came across was, I was hoping to swap out the mag release to the right side (I'm a lefty) and its not like the security 9 that has an option to move the pin inside the lower. Its very easy to manipulate the mag release with my middle finger and still have a combat grip. Thank you for the review and showing the love for 380 caliber. Its starting to become trendy and hopefully price per round drops!

Perfect timing, I was just looking at this gun for my mom who has trouble racking the slide on her full size home defense PX4, was thinking this would be an easier to use option for her and maybe even my wifie.
It’s a great pistol and I would highly recommend it!

Thanks for the no-nonsense informative review! I can see a Ruger Security 380 in my near future because nerve damage and arthritis are starting to make my G19 a bit difficult to handle after the first shot. However, I'm not a fan of blackout sights, do you know of any other rear sights that will fit the Ruger Security 380?
It’s a great pistol and shoots very well, I think you will enjoy it! I have not looked for sight options, but I am sure with how popular this pistol is that there is choices for sure

Kevin, my sec. 9 safety was similar, but softened up after a short period. BTW my M.R.T. Kydex for ny sec. 9 is outstanding👍

Its going in my rotation it's accurate and a yes a 380 will Kill you the 15 rd mag is just as easy to conceal

The Holes On The Barrel Cut's Down On Weight & Allow's U To Grip The Slide Alot Better, There Should Be NO Lent In Ur Pocket's To Begin With..
Yeah it’s not a heavy slide to begin with though. Just personal preference as I’m very OCD about whatever pistol I decide to carry. Overall a great gun though.
I seen on another video and other people talking about the magazine for this gun . It's a 9mm mag that they put a block piece inside to take up the extra length of the 9mm . They say a lot of the mags the insides pop out and problem feeding the gun sometimes. I think that bullshit that Ruger could not make the gun its own magazine. Now I'm not going to buy one , I just bought the LCP MAX and was going to buy the Security 380 and a LCP 22.

It uses a Security 9 Compact frame, so it would stand to reason that it would use mags based on the same firearm. The P365-380 and the Glock 25/28 also use mags based on their 9x19 counterparts, because it is a 9x19 firearm modified to use a 9x17. If you were looking for a Ruger double stack with a dedicated .380 mag, then the LCP Max would be your best bet.
@@DarkPhoenixTSi thanks , yes I already bought a Ruger LCP Max and wanted to buy the Security 380 also . But the LCP MAX has rust issues, I bought it new 4 months ago , went home put it in my dresser drawer for weeks , went to take it out for a min and rust all over the slide . So I Googled Ruger LCP Max slide rust issues and boom hundreds of guys with the same thing , even videos of people showing the rust on the gun . It's bullshit Ruger is doing this . I like Ruger always have but if they are going to make LCP Max with rust and the Security 380 with mag issues THEN Ruger needs to gets things right and pull there head out of their ass . I'm a huge fan of the Security-9, but I've been looking for a gun with an easy-rack slide since I do have some grip strength limitations (although I can rack the Security-9 Compact, Sig P365 pistols, S&W M&Ps, and even the original LCP using the "push-pull" method). I'm torn between this and the S&W Equalizer, TBH.....
Both are great to be honest! I like this Ruger more though as I am personally not the biggest fan of grip safety on the S&W

I don't know if it's me or whether you got a left handed gun and you're shooting it. Right-handed you put it in your right hand. The safety should be on the thumb side but when you were showing it you're showing it with it on the other side

This was set up for a left handed person.
The video setting was wrong and it’s mirrored so that’s why it looks like that
The frame safety is set up for right hand.
@@muddyrivertactical, Thanks for clarifying the mirrored image in the video. I immediately agreed with the commenter that the safety was on the wrong side for a right-handed shooter. Then I noticed in the last still pic of the pistol, the safety was on the left side, showing it properly as a right-handed pistol. Confusing, but your explanation cleared that up.
I thought the safety was only on the left side of the gun. Can you get one with the manual safety on the right side of the gun for us left handed people

Is the video mirrored ? You are holding it with your left hand and saying the safety is for right handed, and manipulating the safety with your left thumb.
Mine is definitely set up for right hand.
