i had a Roland G70 from 2005 and it broke a month ago, i needed to get enough money to buy a new keyboard and this was out of my league. A few days ago my parents said to me, son you get a GENOS 2 from us, and i could not be happier. So tommorow after 19 years i finally get a new keyboard and in my eyes the best there is. My parents are the best there are
I own three Yamaha keyboards… not only do they provide realistic sounds, Yamaha also taps into the power of emotional sounds. This keyboard is a true game changer in synth technology.
I'm on my 2nd Yamaha board now (currently MODX8, previously the original MOTIF8) and you're spot on. Yamaha really rocked the music world with their technology!
This is more like it, Leigh. Absolutely beautiful, epic sounds. This is what the Genos should be known for, not the tired old-skool styles. Genos can do amazing things, but in the end that's up to the player. It's all inside the arranger, waiting to happen.
Extraordinary - the musicianship demonstrated by Leigh and, somehow, by the machine. This is a very carefully crafted instrument that, in the right hands, as we see here, soars to incomparable, new heights. Thank you for another wonderful video, Leigh. You and the Genos2 sound absolutely magnificent.
OMG!!! I'm speechless!!! Two weeks ago I bought the Yamaha Montage M8X which it quite remarkable, but a little overwhelming, as it is so complicated. After watching this video I may consider taking it back and getting the Genos 2. You've succeeded in blowing my mind away - now go get your laundry done! 😄
Considered the M7 myself but held back because of the Genoa2 news that’s now out in the wild. After 30+ years out of the keyboard game, I’ve been looking for something to scratch a creative itch. My last keyboard was a decent home arranger, so something like Genos2 would be much more immediate. As good as the M7 is, I just know I wouldn’t do much beyond the presets.
Yep, that's me too, the presets are so incredible, finding time to go beyond them is challenging. It appears that the Genos2 is much more intuitive than the Montage M8x, or at least he makes it seem that way. Cheers to your prospective purchase, I might be right behind you. ; ) @@X22GJP
The Genos has evolved into something truly amazing ( the original was great, but this is something else ). I have to stay with my Genos 1 as I just can't afford one of these......... maybe one day I'll get lucky in the meantime can just dream of having one. Keep up the great videos Leigh.
That sounds truly truly epic.....I could spend weeks on this style alone to be fair. I see youve mastered the stop button now instead of the chord looper lol. This would sound good for The Phantom Of The Opera too. Amazing playing as aleays on my dream arranger 😊 fabulous presentation, so talented.
I wish Yamaha would update their PSR SX 700 and 900 with some of these beautiful tones and some new features in a lightweight body for keyboard players who can't afford the Genos. But, what a lovely playing, sir🙏🏼
They can't the sampling memory used to create these sounds in higher and not compatible with the lower psr models. Yamaha explained this in a video a few years back. You can replicate the sounds, but you wont get the clarity of realness you want.
I’m torn between something like the Montage M7 and Genos 2. When I hear epic things like this though, I’m like, what am I even dawdling for?! Something like Genos 2 has all bases covered, and can be used to control a desktop module or iPad. Stunning demo, nice one!
It's not right that Yamaha makes you choose...one keyboard should do both for that kind of money. An arranger and synthesizer in one! It feels like an artificial limitation based on market segmentation.
Hello Leigh, Your improvisation on the brand new desert adventure style is just fabulous! the new sounds are outstanding but I admire the quality of your playing and especially the chord progressions used, each time more beautiful and brilliant than the last! You are a true musical artist! Very well done. Mysterio
Actually the Korg Pa5x is right there and beat the genos 2 in a blind sound test with the premade styles. Having heard them both side by side I wouldn't saying Yamaha is in a class of its own. The other thing in the Korg Pa5x is also outselling the Genos 2 which was a real eye opener for me.
WOW! That is style is epic ... One thing I noticed, Yamaha don't seem to label the FreePlay Styles on the on the owner manual which is rather annoying if not bizarre! This is why I bought this wonderful and YES, the best I my opinion professional arranger-workstation marvel :) YAMAHA you rule and for the obvious reasons, experience, wisdom and above, use of expertise in your arsenal ... Well super done my Leigh as always
After a very long time I'm back. You may still know me... the key has fantastic possibilities, shown very nicely in this video :) Looking forward, Thilo
Thank you so much Leigh this is just hauntingly beautiful,It is wonderful how you bring out the very best of these keyboards. The music you compose yourself is so lovely, have a good weekend.Pat. Pat.
Absolutely stunning Leigh! I'm a composer for film/tv and the cinematic sounds in this keyboard is really good. But it would be much more fantastic if they included a dozen of Two Steps From Hell songs to jam along.
OMG I'm addict to your channel, your vids of the Genos 2 are so impressive and you play so well... I'm trying to resist not to buy this keyboard but I think you killed me this time! sheers from south of France
Your last couple videos on the genos two are awesome! What a machine! Keep up the great work! Here’s the big question, I have a genos one, can I get all these cool, sounds and styles on the genos one
Was skeptical after bashing a Genos 1 in a store last Month as I got bored, but I have to admit that is impressive. $6000 here plus a pedal and a decent stand. Given me lots to think about though.
For as much as it costs, Yamaha should incorporate all the features from the Montage into this so you can use it as a synthesizer AND arranger with no compromises. They should also make an 88-key weighted version.
Hi Ley, I watched most of videos and it is the first I heard you to be so emotional at ea😅ch video made on a single instrument ! What is going on? I have to admit as a quick conclusion that so many negative critics of the Genos 2 are not justified at all and until you listen to the device capabilities and OMG! I love your reactions, you are funny. JUST CARRY ON! I have a Tyros 2 and was looking at the PA5x by my mind is switching…convince me more !!! Don’t forget to drink, eat and sleep! Best and keep us enjoying the Genos 2 Journey..
Very nice performance :-) After you have reviewed the Ketron Event and talked positive about it - what is now your opinion comparing these two keyboards Genos 2 and Ketron Event?
@@LeighWilbraham at one time i bought Yamaha SX900. It was a great machine. I had to return it due to lack of user manual. Is the situation same in Genos2 as well? No users manual?
Omg. Love the quick recording you did at the end. I love making up songs like that too. Choirs, strings. Cinematic type music is my cup of tea. Only just subscribed to your channel and going through your videos and finally found someone who really shows the keyboard. (Which I want by the way lol) but will be a long time yet😢. Keep up the good work mr Wilbraham 👏 👍 and look forward to more sound examples. Just gonna sit here now and drool with envy that you have one lol.
Hi Leigh, Have you had to change any settings on the EQ or compressor or is it as out of the box. l use your golden EQ settings for he current Genos as it improves the sound, just wondered if this one is the same?
Hi Leigh Once again many thanks. I always enjoy your viseo’s, but this one is your Best so far. In fact it the best of all the video’s I’ve watched. However - it would be nice if you included a list of the songs you play. I just don’t recognise some of them, as I have neglected a lot of the modern stuff that Yamaha are now including in the keyboards. Bill
Hi Leigh! I think what you have is a Genos 3...😆😆😆 It amazing how you extract the essence of this instrument. I barely scratch the surface of my Genos 1...Still going thru the sound and style...😅
Like it, but not it. There is so much more on top, but then arranger keyboards have been approaching music like this for literally decades. My last one was a PSS-680…very advanced for its time having basic FM sound editing - something even this lacks.
How well do you need to play to work this? Would this be ok for a solo lounge act? I am not good at playing and singing at the same time. Could this would for me?
My DGX-650 is a scaled down version of this. It's surprisingly capable for the money! No, it can't sound like THIS, but it can sound pretty darn good if you push it.
Hi, After just listen for a couple Of minutes it sounds like a leading motive in a big production film. Or it feels more like the final scene in a big production film. So beautifully done. The sound is just awesome and amazing in every way. Creds to you that you have come up with this lovely melody. Keep the good work! 👊🎹 With best & kind regards from Sweden, Rickard (A guy that still is new to learning to play the piano after just two years.) 😉
I looked up the price of this keyboard and was shocked. For it not having a full 88 weighted Keys it seems expensive. That said it's capabilities seem to be unmatched by anything else on the market.

Did you accidentally leave transpose engaged? I was trying to play along but although you were apparently playing in Cm, we're hearing Eb! Nice demo.
