Thank you Leigh, for another great tutorial video with your expressed opinions, which we appreciate. Great to see you back with another video (I have to say I was a little worried as you haven't posted a video for a few weeks). It is pleasing to hear you express, that although a lot of Yamaha styles are song specific, with creativity we can use them as you have suggested with muting tracks and making them more generic.
Just absolutely brilliant again Leigh. I don't have one but as you go along I can think of so many songs with the styles, even those that I had forgotten. I'm an old, old guy now I'm afraid.
The Genos 2 for a few days at home, I was happy with the sx900, but what a world of difference, you haven't said a word too much about how great the quality of the Genos 2 is and how you can make subtle changes in the accompaniments to to make everything sound natural and musical. And how it helps to create your own songs. Thank you for recommending the Yamaha HS speakers. I also purchased the epic strings 2 at the same time. I am a classical/jazz pianist. For gigs with other musicians I use the Kawai ES920, which far exceeds the piano in the Genos 2 in terms of piano sound and touch. I notice that the vocal harmonizer in the Genos 2 is much more responsive than that of the SX900. I look forward to your next inspiring video. Thank you from the Netherlands.
I’m agree with you. Those complaining the Genos styles are to specific that don’t know how to use/discover all features of Genos. However, the arranger should be designed for easy of use because most of arranger-users don’t have much knowlege of tracks, sequencers, mixing, editing things… like most of my local one-man-band musicians, they would love to buy styles pre-cooked instead of sitting down and edit/create styles.
Totally agree Leigh. Genos2 is my favorite arranger with sounds, styles, features and dependability rivaling anything else out there. Other than the hokey slider issue needing to be zeroed out whenever making slider changes, I love this creative, inspirational instrument.
Leigh, you are so right. These videos are a source of knowledge, talent and demonstrated inteligence from you, wich I prefere to "emotional" content. Keep them playing!
Hi from Perth, Western Australia. I absolutely love your work.. And am sooo enjoying playing my Genos2. I just wish I had at least 1% of your talent.. But I do try to give it a go... 😁
You make everything look so effortless! Pure genius! If we all had 1/2 your talent Yamaha would sell a gazillion of these!! Correction 1/10! Amazing skills…
I am so glad that I had found your videos about Genos 2 couple months ago. I had this pleasure to grab one for me and I am so happy! When I sit next to Genos 2 I already know that world won’t exist and time will stop for these hours and hours of pleasure playing. Sound of this instrument, the possibilities are just amazing. That’s true that there is always something to improve, but isn’t this an evolution of technology? Maybe some features will be even more improved, maybe not (those sliders - personally I like them as they are), but I know already that Genos 2 changed me musically, improve my improvisation, open huge possibilities. For me Genos 2 is almost perfect. I wish that in the future (maybe through some software updates or in Genos 3), there will be more “live control” over guitar strumming while playing guitar “without band”, some solutions with connecting harmony/arpeggio with Pads, and seamless voices changes from one to another. It would be wonderful if we’ll get also graphical piano roll interface to edit styles, phrases, chords. After all this instrument is perfect for me. I am enjoying it every time when I start to play, and every time I am blown away where it takes me among musical expression, pleasure, excitement and ecstasy. And the last thing I want to say is that I have some sort of luck, while I don’t recognize so many style, which are inspired by popular songs, so my creativity could be even more free and accessible than for some other people there. I agree that all of these can we use in everything else than those original ones. The key is musically and creativity (and maybe some good sheet music 😅). Best regards from Poland!
I got a Genos 2 cuz I wanted the song specific styles it has. I have a pa5x I’m more familiar with to make my own styles but for now I’ll use the Genos 2 style as they are. Thanks again Leigh. For making these videos. Jim
I’ve always loved Yamaha arranger keyboards. Easy to play almost instantly. My only gripe is the OTS presets always seem to have strings set as one of them when it doesn’t suit the style selected in the least.
thing with Genos is you can make your own or change the styles i have found simply adding an guitar strum or changing the sounds makes it sound totally different.
Hi Leigh, thanks for pointing out the Gentleman Schlager for the 1982 Eurovision song; I found the Oldies Schlager Polka style works well for Griechischer Wein Udo Jurgens.
This instrument really is a beast to be reckoned with. Did you know there's a style called ElectroSwing in the Jazz category? I did, and all it's done is bring nothing but smiles and laughter to my face. I may not have the actual keyboard in my possession, but I've been able to start a bit of a project of sorts, where I take styles from the Genos 2 (and other keyboards) and adapt them for my DGX-670. The real I suppose, "daunting" thing about doing this would have to be the Revo drums (hi-hats especially), and the new MegaVoice velocity maps. Sometimes, it really helps a ton if you have the data lists of the respective keyboards. That along with MixMaster and OTS Changer, the programs I use, really helps give me wonderful results!
As a gospel musician Yamaha has made a lot of style catering to many popular gospel songs but for the lesser known songs I have to do that a lot of mixing in order to use styles without making it obvious of the song it was made for. I also like to do that to bring new life for older Hymns.
Thanks for your honest opinion of the Genos 2. Im in Australia and there is not one shop in Sydney that has has one on display so, I am not able to have a test drive of it ...I think that is absolutely crazy but maybe not enough people consider this a viable product here??? I always say you cant sell secret but hey thats the situation here. There was a Korg PA5X for sale so I bought it only to return it as the plastic keys were actually cutting my fingers and the Bass Inversion Feature didn't work ...so, here I am still without my needed performance keyboard for my Duo.... I still have my Roland 2006 G-70 that crashed 4 times on my last Gig so I ended up buying a Roland EA7 as a back up keyboard ...its ok but just cant live up to the G-70 or what I hope the Genos 2 could do for the Duo ... I feel that Sydney is a back water that cant even offer a viewing of the Yamaha Genos 2 ...PS I also work in Sales at an up market Music Store in Sydney but Yamaha don't offer us a keyboard to promote I could possibly sell a couple a month ...anyway still hoping to view a Genos 2 if there is such a keyboard available to see in Sydney Australia ?????
Hi , totaly agree with you, I was going to write a comment on the vid you're talking about last day and redirect him to your amazing Ave Maria that you've done with a style. You're not stock at all ! Just take for example a style wich you don't recognise the song. I'm pretty sure, you'll play something good with it and you're not stock on! I've got this keyboard for 3 weeks now and Oh my, never heard something so natural , so easy to program, so ergonomic so versatile in the differents ranges of tones, styles and sounds. Ok it doesn't have wood on the sides, it's not made with alu, but come on guyz, the most important in a instrument is the sound ! and this thing got it ! I'll never regret to spend so much money for it.I just need someone who takes time to make an Excel list with all the style and their caracteristics (for example 4/4, 98 BPM...) not to pass 1 hour searching a rythm that suits the song I wanna play.😅
Thank you Leigh for your common sense words on a certain video that has appeared in recent days. Respectfully to the individual involved, it does appear that he seems to have missed the point a little. I did leave a comment myself suggesting an alternative way of approaching ‘soundalike’ styles mentioning pretty much everything you’ve covered here. So far no word back. 😢. In fairness, the complexity behind professional style writing is considerable and understood by few . I can’t imagine how one could ‘simplify’ it from a technical point of view. But who knows what the future might bring 🤔
It concerns me that people just pick up and instrument and are experts overnight. I’ve had all Yamaha models for the last 30 years and know the product inside out. So I know what you can do to use song styles in a creative way. I’m not here for the “fame” I’m here to show people what Yamaha keyboards can do and how owners can use their keyboard to get the most out of it.
Let's just face it, Yamaha is just ace! Even with my psr-s650, I've got some really great product. And it amazes me how Yamaha can improve on things that are already good. I use my keyboard a lot recently to create backing tracks for Songs where there isn't one available already, for stuff I do with my friends. I hope I can upgrade at some point to psr-s775 or something. Genos might be too much functionality for me. But just listening to this on your channel now, I'm going through what you go through when you play it. Edit, when it comes to strings, they really should default to using the ensemble string voices available on the psr-s650. They're all usable. I agree, the new strings lack this lushness and the chorus you get from real orchestras.
Hi Leigh. I will be 79 next Wednesday (7th Aug) and have always wanted a Genos. No really formal musical training I play by ear as unable to sight-read music scores, (largely due to a female music teacher at prep school who doubled as an aversion therapist by hitting your hands with a ruler when mistakes were made) ! Hence my intense dislike of musical theory ever since. However, my inability to sight read music scores made me wonder if Yamaha will ever get around to recording in-built demos for how a song ‘goes’ rather than giving examples of how instruments sound instead …. Or even do both ? This would be Nirvana to me as I haven’t a clue how many modern songs sound, so just listing the titles in a playlist is meaningless without hearing what they sound like ?! Anything from the early 50’s through to the mid 80’s is little problem…..but today’s songs……….forget it ! Thanks so much for your videos by the way……..they are a great help in trying to ,aster my new leviathan!

Thanks for these. I don’t have one but it’s growing on me. I learned in the mid 70s on organs and then did the clubs for 30 yrs on Hammonds, I sold my tyros 3, Nord C1 organ and Roland PK-5 pedals when I left UK to come here to the U.S., I really miss playing pedals! Having control of which bass note I prefer. Wasn’t you going to do a video of using pedals? Can’t remember? Linking to a bottom board with pedals would be a clincher for me, Genos 2 plus HS8s is in the $7000+ range here which a LOT of money. I’m working on it though! Enjoy your channel!
I know you have done a few videos with the psr sx900 but wonder how you would compare the quality of the the sounds and styles of that unit to the Genos 2. I'm in the market but the Genos 2 is outside my price range. Are the sounds and features close to the genos 2 or will that unit be a disappointment after hearing the genos 2? Thank you for all of your videos. All are well done, entertaining and informative!
@@LeighWilbraham Thank you for the response. I guess my best bet is to hold off for now and hope for a price decrease on the genos 2 at some point. Don't want to buy a psr sx900 and be disappointed.
@@wpsam52The new SX920 has received some trickle down from the Genos, including S.Art2 voices, but it is expensive for what it is. A pre-owned Genos 1 costs less and surely is still a very satisfying instrument.
I have a Genos 1 and the keyboard is really inspiring. I've made several brand new original songs just by playing Genos and using its styles. I'm sure you'll recognize the styles if you listen to the songs. I posted some on my TH-cam channel. Greetings from Novi Sad, Serbia. P.S. I am especially proud of the song Doomsday, which was written and sung by my children. (Otherwise they don't sing).
I have a Yamaha stagea D Deck, think you’ve hit it on the head, they are different to the keyboards, think that is why I struggling with my sx900, I want to make my own drum beats and stitch them together, in 2 minds whether to go to a genos instead of my dgx660 😊
But let's be clear, Genos2 is like a software upgrade over Genos1, it has some extra sounds and that's it. I don't see any benefit for switching from Genos1 to Genos2 except for the people who are passionate about having the latest tech and willing to spend extra money. The best test would be a blind test. Getting to hear something from one instrument and than from another and trying to guess where does it comes from. 99% of people will not notice any difference.
By taken out the tubular bell in cord 1 for the top gun theme also could go with chariots of fire style. I would like a keyboard with the 60's music built all around it not homemade usb download files they never sound all that good compared to what you get built in from the keyboard. I had the genos 1 but i didn't like how the piano or strings sounded even the choir sounded off so i sold it back to the shop to where i bought it from at a loss lol crossroads motel is what you couldn't remember the British program here is the reminder to how it went th-cam.com/video/dDDWFBtyA4M/w-d-xo.html i had to watch this as i kid my mum loved it throughout the 70's along with all the other coronation street and Emmerdale farm crap over the years it was a nightmare lol

Could you do a video on the genos 2 fm dx7 sounds? I love them
I'm on an oil rig in the middle of the North . I can't wait to get home to my Genos 1, which I only got the week before I came away...oh and the wife 😂
Jim
It was Crossroads. Jim
Great video. Please would you consider naming the songs as I rarely know what they are
Thanks for these.
@@wpsam52 no the Genos 2 is in a new league. If you have a look at the videos I’ve posted of the Genos 2. There’s a huge difference.
Can you explain the différence between styles and registration memory please thanks
That guitar tune from the telly was a soap set at a hotel , I can’t remember the name .
WOW ... Leigh I can listen to you in amazment for hours, you have a wonderful style. Thank you.
I have a Yamaha stagea D Deck, think you’ve hit it on the head, they are different to the keyboards, think that is why I struggling with my sx900, I want to make my own drum beats and stitch them together, in 2 minds whether to go to a genos instead of my dgx660 😊
@@janestocker hi Jane. You would find a Genos more logical to get around and more akin to your stagea.
@@LeighWilbraham thank you 😊
@@janestocker enjoy watching your videos as well Jane.
The soap you couldn’t remember was the legendary awful ‘Crossroads’ written by Tony Hatch
I have a tyros 5 incredible keyboard,to upgrade to a genos 2 is it worth the outlay?
@@charleskirtley-xy8xi absolutely. It’s streets ahead compared to the Tyros 5
Hello sir, do you know how to set up sustain Pero on the left side of the keyboard? I mean when you split the sounds.
What are you trying to sustain and why
I thought that sounded like do they know it’s Christmas
I remember thinking when watching the same video you mentioned, that he doesn't watch yours. His loss though 😂
@@DTXGaming styles are what you make of them. You can play so many songs and remove the elements that make them song specific. I suppose it shows lack of knowledge.
@@LeighWilbraham not necessarily to defend him, but he was getting a lot of flak from his subscribers, complaining about the "cheesiness" of typical arranger styles. That's when his tone began to change.
It depends on how you play them. Cheese in = cheese out
Crossroads with Noel Gordon
Great video Leigh, thank you
Crossroads 🤣🤣🤣 Meg Richardson played by Noelle Gordon
@@johnburns5783 that’s the one. ☝️
