This is a brilliant discussion. Have always regarded Mifta as a "way forward" thinker. He needs the full backing of the nation. His concerns about lack of education or poor education is due to many factors. When a pupil rote learns something like this, we do not have a chance, no matter what:
"The Sun travels until it prostrates underneath the Throne and takes the permission to rise again and it is permitted and then when the time comes, it will be about to prostrate itself but its prostration will not be accepted, and it will ask permission to go on its course but it will not be permitted........"
Surely, we will not produce scientists, pupils with a balanced mind.

Alhumdulillah - I am from middle-class background and luckily ended up in Canada aa a software engineer.
Growing up, the schooling (rata system) never appealed me. I was lucky to find a local academy nearby my home where focus was on conceptual learning.
I took admission in Govt M.A.O College Lahore and later on went to FAST-NUCES Lahore. I can attest what Miftah SB has said, that children of rich people have an unfair disadvantage over children of lower to middle class, due to the schooling system of Pakistan. In FAST one of the professor publicly ridiculed me by saying that now we have started taking students from Govt MAO college; while I was the second highest grader in engineering discipline of college.
Anyway, last year I wanted to settle back to Pakistan for the sake of my aging Maa. But Maa told me to go back and support family because Pakistan is a sinking ship. So I have come back to Canada. I feel so disappointed with Pakistan (as a country as well as nation) that I also ended up marrying a foreigner. The divorce rate is increasing in Pakistan and women have unrealistic expectations nowadays. It's just crazy back home.
So, I don't miss Maa anymore, but I do miss Nihari, Halwa Poori,.and Ramadan in Pakistan.
At this moment, I honestly believe that Pakistan is under divine punishment due to collective sins of Nation and I see Malaysia as a better place to settle down, raise my children and serve Islam. inshAllah!

The ex minister has identified every reason for Pakistan’s present situation and facing failures.
I watched till 25 minutes. After every two sentence this educated person was invoking “Insha Allah, Masha Allah, Subhan Allah, Alhumdulillah”…
This is the reason of Pakistan’s downfall.
When they depend on their God for everything, their children are sent to madrasas instead of secular schools, they spend 5 times a day praying disrupting their business, education, routine work, when they spend 30-40 days on fasting-feasting, how do you think they can progress and compete with others.
Send religion to homes as a personal belief and encourage scientific, secular, liberal and peaceful thoughts, Pakistan will progress

Before the Industrial Revolution, the governments did not involve themselves in commercial enterprises. During the IR, there was so much exploitation of the workers and the customers that governments started taking interest in the commercial enterprises, too. The principle was to provide essential services at a fair price. The resurrection of economies of European states after the two great wars was led by the state owned enterprises. There are many countries such as China, Iran, etc, where almost all enterprises, especially strategic enterprises like Railways, are state owned and work very efficiently. Even Indian Railways are state owned and still are one of the most efficient railways of the world. There are many state owned commercial enterprises in the USA and Western European countries, too. The most pertinent question in your vlog should have been why we can't run our SOEs efficiently.
Railways, for example, once operated pretty efficiently. Being a technical/commercial organisation, the strategic management and the technical management oversight requirements are different from those of the usual secretrait departments of the government. As the general bureaucracy did not have requisite expertise, Railways had a professional full-time executive Railway Board at the strategic management level. This board acted as the government for the railways. The arrangement was exactly on the same principles of the Indian Railway Board. The Chairman of the Board was always a railway professional who also acted as the ex-officio secretary for the federal government. In 1990. The professional Railway Board was abolished. The professional chairman was replaced by a CSS bureacrat. The Railway Board was also replaced by a board consisting of bureaucrats who had no knowledge of transport economics and even less of Railways. With the strategic management tier consisting of people from the general bureaucracy having no professional knowledge, the Railways started floundering like a rudderless ship. This has been the state of affairs since the last 24 years, grinding a once promising organisation to dust. Similar has been the case of PIA and Pakistan Steel Mills. Please study the staffing of their strategic management tier, and you will find proof of what I have stated above. Failure of every State organisation in Pakistan is a direct result of incompetence and a complete lack of appreciation of the job requirements by the policy making segment of our government.

30:49 / 1:03:45 Why Private sector is performing well? The reason would be accountability, hand-on-hand punishment, and expulsion if someone is found guilty. Make the accountability & punishment in govt departments better, then we may not need privatization. If the same employee gives better output in private, then why not in public office? Something is missing in govt institutions; please remove that loophole. 1st, stop bureaucratic & political appointments in govt at any level. Otherwise also privatize Senate and parliaments.

Every noteworthy country in the developing world has a national flagship airline owned by the state. The reason for this is that no country wants to put their airspace totally at the mercy of a few private profiteers. If you put air fares 100% in the control of private sector, they will exponentially increase them whenever it suits them, much to the detriment of the public. And there won't be anything the govt would be able to do to stop them. The only way to keep check on fares not becoming unreasonably high in 3rd world economies is to atleast keep 1 state owned airline in the aviation business.

So doesn't increasing tax reduce the purchasing power of the taxed and doesn't the taxed entity would want to pass it on too? Case in point agriculture and service sector? Passing on taxes would again result in higher prices of potatoes, eggs, etc

Even local or overseas pakistanis are unwilling to invest in industries in pakistan…

Lovely interview. Thank you so much, dear, Miftah Sahab for giving such a candid view even if a few of them may be politically incorrect & can hurt your political career. Pakistan needs brilliant, straight forward & committed rulers like you. You have demonstrated how you have used your position to understand the route problems of your nation & willing to travel an extra mile. But you have missed an important point that improving relationships with 3 critical neighbors India, Afghanistan & Iran must be the first priority. That enmity is not allowing you to focus on your problems & allocate adequate resources for the purpose of development & poverty alleviation. China has demonstrated that it could achieve economic prosperity despite the political model that is not acceptable to the democratic world but Pakistan is not successful in establishing the political coalition model where the military is either a dominant partner or ruler. Salute to you for the economic measures taken by you for your country. Our best wishes to our twin. May the great Allah help Pakistan & its people & also bring peace to India, Pakistan, Afghanistan & Iran. That is very important for the progress of all our nations. It is time to re-look at our assumptions & aspirations & forgive, if not forget, the mistakes committed by governments & militaries in the past. People of India & Pakistan, particularly the new generation want peace & an opportunity to progress rather than getting entangled in history & acts of revenge. Let the new Sun rise in the skies of India & Pakistan.

Pakistan faces economic challenges due to various factors including political instability, corruption, inadequate infrastructure, low tax revenue, reliance on foreign aid, terrorism, and insufficient investment in education and healthcare. These issues have hindered sustainable economic growth and development, contributing to its classification as a struggling economy.
