It is my understanding that the proposed tariffs will be TARGETED. Example: Company ABC is a Chinese company that makes electric cars in China and can sell them for $20,000 in the US (b/c they use cheap labor). Company XYZ is an American company that also makes electric cars but can only sell them as cheap as $40,000 (b/c they pay living wages to their US employees). In order to prevent company ABC from dominating the American electric car market & putting American companies out of business, a tariff is imposed on ABC's cars before they can be sold in the US. This not only prevents American companies from going out of business but it also incentivizes people to buy American. It's not like tariffs will be put on ALL goods. IF used properly, they have the potential to really help the US economy. Prior to 1913 there was no income tax and the US just used tariffs. We'll see what happens!

We will wait and see what happens in the next few months. The northern states in America are definitely interconnected to Canada, from certain economic standpoints. Tariffs on imported goods, such as lumber, will definitely have an impact. In Montana, people are right to be concerned about excessive development. Cheers, Will!

There’s no reason we can’t produce our own lumber like we used to in MT. This is the whole point Trump is talking about tariffs, to encourage production and manufacturing in our own country.

From a conservative point of view, the federal election and the Montana election went very well. However, in Washington State from which I escaped last spring as a political refugee, it was disastrous. A lot of those people are going to want to come here.

The problem is that when liberals leave far left states for peaceful common sense places like Montana, before long montana 6:09 will be a far left state just like the one they ran from. They bring their it with them😒

I appreciate your point of view. Thats not a unique perspective meaning I think you are on track. Nobody knows for sure but it’s good to understand how things might happen. Real estate trading is a gamble legal in all 50 states. I just want a home for my family. One, as in singular. 😂

Sorry to tell you all but this version of the GOP is not interested in preserving the Montana way of life. Quite the opposite I am afraid. Think the condo developers on Yellowstone. Hope I’m wrong! 🙃

Looks like it will take some time for things to settle out. Interest rates are staying high maybe because that's where they are suppose to be when the government isn't goosing the market. The stock market looks good but how long can the government continue to afford handing out cash to an almost enless list - housing, home purchase down payments, EVs, solar energy, student loans, illegal immigrants, cellphones, internet service, UN, foreign government support, .... ?

Well property taxes are going up and cost for homeownership, so is cost of living, but Montana isn’t going to develop and modernize like major cities in the country… eventually folks will move relocate to other states. Well, Montanans sold property to the highest bidder…locals couldn’t compete. So those with then funds bought real estate, flipped homes and are now selling them for millions.

The quickest move will be tariff, possibly on day 1. Substantial new tariff costs will be passed on to the consumer leading to higher inflation. Think about the goods purchased in Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, Target, Amazon, etc. With high inflation, the fed would likely increase interest rates. So mortgage rates may increase. Also as you point out the cost of construction will increase with tariffs on Canadian lumber, plumbing supplies, etc.

But Trump has promised to cut inflation way down!!! Wouldn't that help things?

Reciprocal tariffs are fair tariffs. The savings for moving jobs overseas, especially communist countries, is short lived given the cost of reshoring, added defense expenses, and global environemental damage. There's no free lunch.

Our bifurcated economy . . . isn't strong for demonstrably large percentage of avg American's. The way government measures GDP growth/inflation/jobs is so bogus it hides the real-life impacts. Less regulations vis-a-vis things like housing mkt will, in a macro sense, be a positive i believe. Targeted tariffs (which is what is actually being considered) can work in tandem with tax reductions/less gov't regulations - - results remain to be seen like anything else, but imo, it'll trend positive for home buyers and first-time buyers in long-term. After all, look what we are experiencing now.

Many companies have laid off thousands of worker and closed many of the store's.
Yeah great economy, and to Will I would say, interest rates are not the problem but a house that was worth 250,000 only 3 years ago selling for 600,000 today is a HUGH problem 😮
