I remember getting through Lady Butterfly, and the final one unlocked being Inner Genichiro. I had no idea what "inner" Genichiro was but it had the picture next to it, where he's not wearing his armor? So I thought it was just phase 3 of his fight and I thought to myself.. "that's it?? 2ez no problem" only to be obliterated by new movesets and died immediately
I killed Tutorial Geni and the Ashina Castle Geni in first attempt in NG+. I tried not to play Gauntlet till I have more attack power. Now I am on Owl and tried fighting Gauntlet one. Totally destroyed. Been trying for 3 hours and managed just 1 win in practice reflection of Strength. He feels like a totally different beast.
My first attempt at the divine heir gauntlet:
Killed Gyoubu, probably 2 or 3 gourds used, pretty much easy boss
Killed Butterfly (gave me the most trouble in regular playthrough), had to fill up her posture bar more than 4 times, because she would simply call illusions whenever the bar was almost full, still had 1 gourd left
Finally, it's inner Genichiro, I know he's different, but how difficult could he be? I didn't have too much of a hard time fighting the regular one. Plus, I casually obliterated Tomoe Genichiro as part of the final boss fight. I was pretty confident.
All my confidence went away when he obliterated me with his combat arts.

The loading screens and having to select the challenge every time are brutal when you are first learning his moves
Once you get to him you unlock it as a memory so you don’t have to go through the gauntlet to train on him actually
@@the_spaghett_boy4331 I think he was referring to the fact there is no restart option even in the reflections. So you die load to the main hub reselect the fight and reload back in. Which can take awhile in of itself.

I used Ichimonji Double and it worked extremely well to keep my posture down. Free vitality hits on both ichimonji slashes after any successfully deflected Sakura Dance (great time to heal as well) and several other spots give you openings to do posture damage with it as you bring down your own. All for 0 spirit emblem cost. Took maybe five or six attempts till I understood his new moves and habits, and once I decided to try the Ichimonji Double, got it on the second try.
Ichimonji is goated. Even when I perfect parry 95% of stuff I feel like i have to take breaks to regain posture. Ichimonji says fuck that. Attack AND regain posture. Plus, it’s a really satisfying Bonk.
I always just used mortal blade twice after a Sakura dance reflection for each phase. I'd do it in the beginning for the damage purely to make the rest of his posture not regen immediately. Two mortal blade hits and he's a normal geni after that.
Came back to the game after 18 mths off and finally killed Sword Saint. Feeling satisfied, I promptly started the new gauntlet of strength… and this guy put me in a coma

Its true, Ichimonji double is the best thing to use due to it reducing your posture, which was really helpful for me. Now I can sakura dance!😆
Best way to avoid sakura dance is to deflect first 2 hits then jump and perform a mid air deflection..Trust me, it works well

You need to master them on Reflection of Strength first... only then you fight them on Gauntlet...

You can really only heal after successfully parrying a big combo of his like his floating passage or Sakura dance.
Just came back after a few months off and underestimated how absolutely fcking brutal this game truly is. You can't take time off and face genichiro like that.

I defeted him by saying to myself "relax, it's a videogame just enjoy the fight"
The problem is that he breaks your posture so easily and you will be wide open for his long ass high damaging combo , you need to keep watch over your posture
If you deflect every attack enemys cant break your posture

@@izawa9211yeah but better be safe than sorry. If you get a single block instead of parry, its over. So its way smarter to have enough posture bar to support that block and keep deflecting.
Great guide, I noticed if you dodge toward him after deflecting the second Sakura dance hit you don’t get hurt and can get an ichimongi double on him
I tried that and it works amazingly well and works every tine, but it seems like in his way of tomoe phase you can't do it anymore or I'm just bad at the game

At about 7:05, when you start talking about the reasoning behind your choice of this one amongst (presumably) many clips of your boss fight footage, the conclusions you reached in the line of thought are why I just subscribed to you! I appreciate that mindset a lot; it includes the *subtle* flex you deserve for being *able* to do a perfect clear on Inner Genichiro, but it doesn't let that very subtle flex actually interfere with the video's ability to teach the viewer what they want to learn.

for sakura dance, the first two parry is easy, the last one is tricky. One easy way is to use umbrella against the 3rd one.
1 . 2 .. 3. There’s a slight pause between the second and third slash, I like to deflect 1 and 2 then step dodge into him on 3 and cheese a few free hits

Nice slow mo. Get to see a lot of details. About the guide, I'd like to share what I discovered.
For healing window, you can safely heal in the first 2 phases immediately after doing a Mikiri Counter. He'll try to shoot you but because you're close to him (as you just did a Mikiri Counter), just forward dodge at the last second and the arrow will always miss you while you can continue pushing him. You can do the same in the final phase, it's just that he'll do perilous lunge thrust (even though he's so close to you XD) which you will have plenty of time to do a free Mikiri Counter again after a heal.
Now this is depending on your preferred play style, for the 4 arrows spam attack, I prefer to forward dodge the last arrow so that I can immediately close the distance and keep pushing him. As seen from this video, sometimes you'll get punished when you try to close the gap after deflecting all 4 arrows.
I know you wrote this 4 years ago... When you say forward dodge, you mean dodge directly to 12 o'clock or to 11 o'clock? My guess is dodge to 11 o'clock after a heal and to 12 o'clock after the 3rd arrow?
@@Henry-qk6gw I play on keyboard and mouse. With lock on, it's just neutral dodge, meaning pressing dodge only without pressing any directional button. I dunno what angle that would be but it seems like 12 o'clock.

After sometime u’ll get use to his animation and the parry time for the sakura dance though. Its relatively easy to time.

Nice video.. Here's a tip for the Lightning reversal, cause you mentioned one has to take damage.
If you deflect (holding block) mid air, during the lightning reversal you will hear a distinct 'clink' and you won't take damage from it at all. The rest of the procedure to fire it back is the same. ;)
yeah i feel like people completely forgot that in the lightning reversal instructions, youre meant to “charge” your sword (in other words, block) before you return it. but ig its so flashy that getting hit and returning it is easier in the heat of the moment

I recommend not running at all in this fight, because you won’t be able to deflect while running, so if he uses sakura dance and you don’t get the first deflect then you’re dead

I always dash through the thrid hit of the sakura dance, the timing is easy and then you can punish him any way you want. I always throw an oil bottle and blast him with the flame prosthetic, then after a few strikes he will catch fire and I get a few more free hits

Might sound insane but if dodge toward him during his dance you can dodge the first hit deflect the second and dodge the third hit. Its not easy for me but its possible. And deflecting early is the way to go on his new attack if you don't wanna try dodging it

@@godofecom yeah dodging toward him seems to be the best direction. You can get underneath it. Im not really good at this game and pull it off. Rare for me but you can do it if you practice

After deflecting his new three hit combo, you can hit him with a double ichimonji before he recovers. He'll take the full health damage of both strikes, and then you can go into the basic pattern of r1 - r1 - deflect. After two or three exchanges he will try the special move again, or the multi hit flurry (which also leaves him open to a double ichi.) Dash forward when he backsteps, but only once. when he gets about 10m away he will do a chasing slice and you can hit him with two light attacks.
Wait for the opening after deflecting his new 3 hit combo to heal or pop sugars / confetti. If your buffs are good then bonk him twice on the head. You'll melt him.
Without kuro’s charm I missed getting perfect counters for his first attack and died instantly so yeah I kinda needed this

to perform a proper lightning reversal, you have to guard while jumping, hear a "ding" sound - meaning u successfully block the lightning, then press attack. If u can block the lightning then u wont take dmg
this boss was piece of cake compared to the last boss of the game isshin the sword saint the 4 phase boss battle I almost gave up on this game I died atleast 50 times and finally beat him today August 21 2022 now I'm doing gauntlets and going for the platinum trophy as well as stocking up on everything I need

There's an easier way to beat him in the third phase, whenever he draw his bow you just need to charge your melee attack, that will cancel his attack, keep do it over and over again until you can kill him :)

I even cheesed the first 2 phases of this fight perfectly so I would only have to worry about the third and no matter what I can never get a single heal off, and every time I die he just keeps attacking so whenever I get back up I immediately die again, I've officially given up on this fight
You have to fight the same regardless if you're low. You need to hold out till he finishes his combo and then you'll get time to heal. He's very easy to create a rhythm to

When I first finished the game I tried the gauntlet more than 20 times but in vain,so I just gave up and went to ng+,after beating the game second time I tried and beat the gauntlet first try lol
I can't for the life of me figure out why, but my deflects tend to not block all of the damage, even though it plays the deflect sound and shows the sparks and ring around the sword
You’re maybe only deflecting some
ichimonji double and umbrella does wonders
Hmm so actually using double ichimonji is very useful good posture and health damage. And he almost always uses sakura dance. So deflect first two dash into him and start ichimonji. Everything else is similar. Also people saying its harder to heal. Not really. Heal when he pulls the bow out move left or right as soon as animation stops sprint so you dont get hit. Be aware of his projected force attack after the last arrow he does it now. Everything else is similar. Just gotta get the hang of his sakura dance.
I had just beaten isshin and this was by far more annoying and difficult, I hope they scale their damage a bit because with a lower vitality you'll get one shot most of the time
How do you do umbrella?
Do you just hold R2 until his combo ends or
Do you hold R2 and then press L1 to deflect or
Do you just press R2 once?
I've seen Ongbal playing with base vitality and he is at max posture damage and still manage to not take any more posture damage while umbrella for Genichiro's long combo.

You can Block the Lighting to reflect without Damage
Why am I blocking and deflecting his sakura dance but still taking damage
Do not do block (hold LB), do not do block and deflect (hold LB and tab LB right before each hit). Instead, only deflect right before each hit (just tap and RELEASE LB). Doing so give you the widest timing window for each deflect. There are three hits, so tab LB in quick succession two times, wait for about half a second, tap LB the third time. Remember to release LB each time you deflect, your finger may be holding on to the LB without you knowing. If the timing is right, there should be no vitality loss.
It has to be perfectly timed in order to be free from any sakura damage, just think of it like playing an instrument music and you need to catch up the rythym
I've failed mortal journey twice so far, both times to inner Genichiro, i used all kinds of heals, resurrection and i still died. But when i fight that fucker in reflection of strength, i can dump on him easily and only have to use like 1 heal throughout the entire fight

i did literally not stand a chance against this genichiro even though i can easily beat normal genichiro without getting hit and i know all of his moves.
he is actually very weak against ichiminji-double. after each sakura dance there is enough recovery time to bonk him good

Yep, same goes for me :/ Gyoubu and Grandma are easy at this point, but when it comes to Edgynichiro, that 3 hit slash combo always gets me. I know it can't be that hard to counter, but it always catches me off guard...

Here’s my own guide. if you can beat genichiro easily, just fight him normally. Only thing you have to worry about is the Sakura dance. If he does it either use umbrella (ya wimp) or block the first two (simple double tap with a *small* space in between and dash straight forward). You’ll avoid the third swing and can get a hit in. Third phase just don’t suck at deflecting lighting, but he will use lightning for a second time after the first (idk if he does it always or if he only does it after you reflect it the first time).

This boss is such utter bullshit. Been at it for several hours now and still can't even reliably get out of his first phase. Only even seen the final phase twice in that amount of time and usually die pretty quickly. Definitely hating this fucking game right now.

It depends on your posture. Ichimonji double is extremely helpful once he lands because it reduces yours and increases his. Plus u can sneak in a healing item after he lands. These tactics are how I beat him.

Ineer Genichiro is actually pretty easy if you think
Because after jumping and attacking he alwaus does the thrust attack while normal/way of tomoe Genichiro has the thrust attack, the attack that you have to jump and an attack that you have to parry
So In Inner Genichiro you can pretty much mikiri after he jumps and attacks while in Genichiro you have to be really careful
