The songs that are fast are complex but lack the soul and the lyricism and also, Rust in Peace was 5 years than Master of Puppets and 3 years later than AJFA. Bigger gaps between it for Kill Em All and Ride too. Rust is a great album, but it's got nothing on 80s Metallica.

And Hangar 18 with it's many solos and rust in peace has riffs than I struggle to play as fast.

I wouldn't classify this as one of my all time favorites, but those harmonized guitars at the beginning and the end of the song is some of the best sound that has ever been created. Beautifully put together song and absolutely epic sounding guitars.

Imagine being a 11 year old kid when this came out, trying to learn the riffs with no TH-cam, understanding the guitar harmonies and overall composition. This was my school of rock. What a masterpiece.

Musically and lyrically, this album was a genius work of art, and learning to play it improved my playing and understanding of riff composition and arranging a million times faster than if I had stuck to less challenging things at the time. Even minus the bass, it will always be my favorite Metallica album, and showed just what was possible in thrash/heavy metal.
When you finish this, search for “And Justice for Jason” it’s just a fanmade remake of the songs with bass boost. On the original they decided to be mean with Jason and lowered his bass track volume.
Did you read the interview with the guy that mixed it? He talked about how Lars kept at him until the bass was completely out of the mix. Then a couple of years ago they were at some event, and some talked about how the bass wasn't present. Lars then came up to this guy and asks "Yeah, how did that happen", like he had nothing to do with it. Lars can really be a prick.
@@calebleland8390 Cliff Burton was a pillar stone of Metallica. They still talk about him today with so much love. They literally saw him dead under a bus. Less than a year later they where obviously forced into getting a new bass player, into studio and to move on obviously by pressures from record labels or whatever to keep the Metallica machine printing money. It's obvious where all this grief ended up. This album is extremely dark compared to their previous work, and they took their grief on the recording process and on Jason the new guy. This situation alone had obvious consequences, it led Lars to want to go independent on their way of work and thus the switch we see in the Black Album, Metallica decided to go the Black Album way as they mentioned a number of times in A Years a Half and that's why they get Bob Rock, clash imensely with him but they never boot him, they end up following what Bob Rock wanted, they wanted to go commercial and become gigantic to the point that they can decide whatever they want to do with their band. This is clearly seen in Some Kind of Monster, despite all the crap they choose to continue to work they weren't forced into it or to break contracts. They choose to do St. Anger, they choose to do Lulu. They became so big they can do whatever they want. And that is for me the utlimate legacy of Cliffs death. I wouldn't be surprised that if Cliff never died Metallica would have become the same size as of Slayer for example and never gaining the popularity they got, obviously. Black Album, Load and Reload and everything afterwards would have never existed and we'd seen a continuation of the style that is present in Master of Puppets to this day. The whole way Cliffs death was managed and forced Kirk, James and Lars to move on is the single most defining factor of Metallica and something that still has deep scars in those three guys. Jason was just the pariah of their pent up frustrations with all of this...
Can't wait to see for The Frayed Ends of Sanity. This song is my less fav of the album when i started to hear but somehow the riff of this song haunted me after years of listening, until I fall in love with it. 🤣

There are in fact few albums in metal that can compete with "Master of Puppets" and "...and Justice for All". "Rust in Peace" by Megadeth is definitely one of them. Every song a masterpiece in its own right.
Yes Peace Sells can too! In my Opinion Megadeth is better then Metallica but i enjoy it to listen to Tallicas albums before Black Album! Exodus "Faboulus Disaster" and Testaments "The New Order" can definitely compete with Metallica Albums too!

I love this one because it takes stages in the first two minutes to set up the main rhythm of the majority of the song. It harkens back to classical music a bit where the setup took a bit but once the main flow of the song took hold, it all made sense in the end. Masterpiece.

I remember picking this up from the music store the day it dropped, slotting it into my walkman and thinking "Can they do it again?" In a short period I was saying "Yes, yes they can". I wasn't completely reaction free as I'd seen them at Monsters of Rock several months before this and they played Harvester of Sorrow at that show. That was bad ass so I couldn't wait to get the album so I could hear it again.
It really makes me happy that you can genuinely appreciate what/who Metallica is -- I love watching this new generation react to these unexplainable experiences. I mastered this song on my Ibanez guitar when I was 18, especially the solos. Studied the tablature until I got it perfect -- people couldn't believe how badass it was. Felt like a hero
Harvester Of Sorrow is the one I look forward to the most. Its the Leper Messiah of this album. Oft overlooked & forgotten, but one of the best on an album where every song is an 11.
Justice is my favorite Metallica album and "To Live Is To Die" is my favorite song of their entire catalog. No song has ever evoked emotion in me the way that song does.
Once you've reacted to the whole album, do yourself a favour and listen to the "And Justice for Jason" version of the album where you can actually hear the bass :)

I think And Justice For All (album) is vastly underrated but I chalk that up to Cliff passing (RIP) and they suppressed Jason's Bass contributions. The Metallica army jettisoned fandom at the Black album which I think is silly. They evolve... do you want them to play Master of Puppets for eternity? Directed at Alex: Go listen to the live performance of No Leaf Clover and report back.

A song that still remains painfully relevant in the United States and the world in general, 33 years after it was first written and recorded. Justice has been and is lost, r___d, and gone. The interlude and outro are also epic moments on this record (following on from my Blackened reaction comment.) I remember one uploader put a kind of commentary on the track; it went along the lines of, "The clean intro is the peace and calm, but as it gets into the heavy parts it represents the cracks spilling through until the song goes full distortion to signify the corruption as being out in the open. The interlude is the politicians, judges, etc. trying to restore the calm from the intro (hence it following basically the same core riff), but it doesn't work so we return to the main riff of the song." Was an interesting angle to look at.
This is crazy. Through you, I am reliving the very experience that made me at 15, convince my parents to get me a guitar. Now it's been 28 years playing guitar, and Metallica is absolutely a band I revisit every week. Hell I played 2 minutes of Battery on my acoustic, messing around on Twitter the other day, because Battery. Seeing people react to Metallica for the first time reminds me why I fell in love with them. I don't listen to them every single day, but even to this day, they're my favorite band. Even the "new shit" that a lot of fans don't like that much still has that distinct Metallica sound and feel to it. Thanks for the refresher on what it's like to hear them with fresh ears. Truly remarkable musicians who were decades ahead of their time.

This your was my first concert. July 1989 at the Capital Center in Md. Amazing show, sound and sites. The women were just as phenomenal as the show!! Loved when they played this and Lady Justice exploded!!

Fun fact, your fact is semi inaccurate. Lars build the drum line, and James wrote the riffs to meet the drum line. Lars didn't write the guitar riffs.

The remix by Ahdy Khairat is way better than the ...And Justice For Jason remix as the bass is more balanced, less muddy, and clearer.

The whole way Cliffs death was managed and forced Kirk, James and Lars to move on is the single most defining factor of Metallica and something that still has deep scars in those three guys. Jason was just the pariah of their pent up frustrations with all of this...

There are in fact few albums in metal that can compete with "Master of Puppets" and "...and Justice for All". "Rust in Peace" by Megadeth is definitely one of them. Every song a masterpiece in its own right.

I love this one because it takes stages in the first two minutes to set up the main rhythm of the majority of the song. It harkens back to classical music a bit where the setup took a bit but once the main flow of the song took hold, it all made sense in the end. Masterpiece.

I remember picking this up from the music store the day it dropped, slotting it into my walkman and thinking "Can they do it again?" In a short period I was saying "Yes, yes they can". I wasn't completely reaction free as I'd seen them at Monsters of Rock several months before this and they played Harvester of Sorrow at that show. That was bad ass so I couldn't wait to get the album so I could hear it again.

Harvester Of Sorrow is the one I look forward to the most. Its the Leper Messiah of this album. Oft overlooked & forgotten, but one of the best on an album where every song is an 11.

I think And Justice For All (album) is vastly underrated but I chalk that up to Cliff passing (RIP) and they suppressed Jason's Bass contributions. The Metallica army jettisoned fandom at the Black album which I think is silly. They evolve... do you want them to play Master of Puppets for eternity? A song that still remains painfully relevant in the United States and the world in general, 33 years after it was first written and recorded. Justice has been and is lost, r___d, and gone. The interlude and outro are also epic moments on this record (following on from my Blackened reaction comment.)
I remember one uploader put a kind of commentary on the track; it went along the lines of, "The clean intro is the peace and calm, but as it gets into the heavy parts it represents the cracks spilling through until the song goes full distortion to signify the corruption as being out in the open. The interlude is the politicians, judges, etc. trying to restore the calm from the intro (hence it following basically the same core riff), but it doesn't work so we return to the main riff of the song." Was an interesting angle to look at.

Seeing people react to Metallica for the first time reminds me why I fell in love with them. I don't listen to them every single day, but even to this day, they're my favorite band. Even the "new shit" that a lot of fans don't like that much still has that distinct Metallica sound and feel to it.
