These third gens pull best at about 64 mph that’s about when it’s the strongest. I’ve had about 18,000 pds behind my 06 and that what it liked best. I have a 2019 now so I don’t use the 06 to pull anymore. It’s going to be the fun truck soon.
my 06 was the same. it had 4:11 gears so it would pull at higher speeds but it was turning 2200 plus.
I would check for a soft code for fan clutch 220s is pretty warm I was getting that warm pulling my 15K 5th wheel through the Utah mountains in my third gen. I found a soft code for fan clutch turns out I had a wire smoked in the harness got it fixed and I’ve never seen those temps again.

I find out thursday or friday if im getting an 08 megacab 3500 4x4 with the 6.7 auto. Zero rust which is good for canada, bonestock motor, no tuner, older fellow owned it and took care of it. Question though, is 212000miles high for these trucks?

2007.5 - 2009 3rd gen have the same power train and suspension as the 2010 -2012 4th gen rams.
