    STORYLINE:
Thousands gathered in Kyanguli on Wednesday to mourn the death of 58 schoolboys killed in an arson attack on 26 March 2001.
Members of the government and parliament joined members of the public at the mass burial just outside the country's capital.
The schoolboys died in their crowded, locked dormitory when a fire broke out and they were unable to exit the burning building.
Students believe the gasoline-fueled fire was set by their peers angry over the annulment of final exam results and demands that they pay back school fees.
President Daniel Arap Moi has echoed this statement and said the boys were victims of an arson attack.
There were 139 students in the poorly maintained buildings of Kyanguli Secondary School in Machakos.
One of the two doors to the 40-metre (132-foot) by 15-metre (50-foot) building was locked, trapping half of the students behind a wall of gasoline-fueled flames, survivors said.
The students could not escape through the windows because they had metal bars.
The parents of the 58 boys who were killed in the blaze decided to hold a mass burial for those burnt beyond recognition as identifying the bodies through D-N-A testing would be too expensive and take too long.
