I used to drive a flatbed tow truck picking up wrecks for the scrapyard. They sent me out to a remote area to pick up two Beetles. When I got there, there there were three! Didn't want to make a second trip and waste another hour, so I loaded them up sideways, door to door to door, and off to town I went. I wish I'd taken pictures.
I’ve got all the parts that can be taken off of a ‘62 hiding in the attic above my garage because I didn’t want to know what my wife would have said. The body looks like it’s in ok shape. Probably have to completely disassemble it, then put it back together before it would be in decent shape again. Hope you brought all the parts that were laying around in the yard with you. You’ll have to make a video to show us how this project turns out!
Yeah, that was something to watch. Nothing for nothing, but you might want to try putting the wood under the jack in the future and slide the jack over rather than trying to slide the car on the tires if you ever encounter that problem again.. Not to worry, I know what its like to do things the harder way. Such is life and thanks for sharing.

Really enjoy watching you save them from mother nature; you do not need to answer my question, but was wondering , what's your mission statement..is it the fun finding as many as you can or is there a master plan to rebuild them. My son calls you his VW hero & that you should wear a cape with a VW emblem on it.. I told this story once before but when he was back in middle school he saw a beetle in the farm field and the only tree in the field was on top of the car. He had to get it out of the field and save what he could of the car. Our friend who had the equipment for the job, saw how much he was effected by it. Talk about a love for VW's no video's but have photo's need to show you what they saved..

VW was still using moon hub caps in 65. They started the pancake hub caps in 66. Also, a 66 would have a chrome "1300" badge on the engine cover. It's the only year with that badge. I'm CT too along the central coast.
I have to tag along to see what you have planned for this one. I hope a total refurbish is it's future. I would love to find one myself for a song. There is some type mystic about them that are interesting to refurbish in my opinion. Thumbs Up!

1965 - 66 for that one . I bought one worse than that It had no bottom on the tunnel. I got it loaded onto a trailer and i was thinking 'What have I bought" and was saying goodbye to the guy and he said do you want the rest of it? The rest of it ? yes in the garage. There was another one in the garage and it hadn't been advertised but it was included and a pick up load of parts. That has only happened to me once. now they are few and far between.

Obviously, Jen didn't kill you. Hope the flu didn't have you down too long, but at least you got that out of the way for the season. The Bug came with a free pet spider and excellent ventilation ... :D ... Hey, these older cars need to be saved, even if only for the original old bits. Being a Mini owner, I have seen a lot of older cars rescued just for that reason alone. It may be well beyond a practical restoration, but it still can donate parts to another project. Better than seeing them go for a few dollars worth of scrap. Cheers, and stay well!
The tires look good ! ....so I would say reasonable price with all those spares. Might be worth getting another VW enthusiast to sort the body (floorpan) to a rebuild state. If the rest of the car is then mostly mechanical restorations there might be a profit ?. Nice project for someone with a MIG welder and plenty of time on their hands....

5150mxVW Cheap thick cookie sheets with some of that Teflon no stick spray stuff (ask the wife, it goes on cooking pans) might have helped move that little bug. Maybe get 4 and keep them in the truck just in case you need one or all - haha.
All 4 wheels locked up...check. Steering box locked up...check. Got a nasty cold brewing, now you've wasted your energy well into the night...check. This Beetle isn't coming off the trailer until spring. LOL Sea Blue cars sell fast. Put the fenders back on free up the wheels and steering, and move it down the road.
its a 1965 no defrost vents, first year of the bigger windows the wipers park to the left. still has the linkpin front beam. the late 40 hp 1200cc or 1192cc engine is missing but parts are there. as 65 is the last year of the 40 hp. one wide 5 wheel is a 1966-1967 type, one wheel on the car is a late 14 in bus rim the reason why the wheels can be seized the brake drums are rusted solid to the shoes. keep in mind the electrical system in this car is 6 volt if you restore it and go to 12 volt. as 1966 the 40 hp in the US was changed to a one year only engine in the US the 1300cc as 66 has the central defrost vent, the slotted wheels with flat hub caps, the first year for the ball joint axle beam, and the 4 way emergency flashers which u can activate when off the side of the road, slow speeds or stuck behind in traffic with a line of vehicles and malifunctioning traffic light as the flashers can be used when stopped for a school bus unloading and loading kids. i would also check to be sure your frame tunnel is not rusted like i had a 70 bug the tunnel rotted the bottom seperated where the pans attach and was up behind the pedal cluster. thats what you have to look for when buying a bug, Karmanm Ghia, or Thing.
I did not know that about the wipers , I did notice that 66/67 rim ...i'll have to check i didn't notice the bus rim ...and like I mentioned to others I had 4 seized rims , a 9k lb winch and dusk on the horizon so i just dragged it on vs messing with 4 seized drums . It's wasted! I knows the gas cap story though, The original big VW logo ones would fly off in a crash, so VW would replace them when the car came in for service. I'll take the cap off your hands LOL
come on dude its fixable. but better for parts to save the others. The kicker is the body tag. I would save the body tag and pan plate for one of the others that dont same year if he has any more 65s.
@@mikethepainter I'm normally pretty optimistic about what can get fixed, but this one just based on the video seems particularly bad. It could be fixed, and the right person might, but I personally don't think it's worth it. It does have a body tag though and a '65 is an interesting year so who knows...

@@mikethepainter I'll watch it. I'm of the opinion that everything can be fixed. I personally wouldn't fix that one, but for someone with a connection to a '65 it could be the right car. It's like my bus, I doubt anyone else would fix it, but I have a connection to it. If you can get the patch panels and can weld, then the car should be fixed, it just has to be done by someone that wants to see it fixed.
just gotta say... bring a tire iron with a flat blade end a big sledge 3/4" socket big breaker bar brake clean and a lighter rip the tires off pound em with the drums with a hammer attempt getting them off if they don't break free in the first 2 minutes of pounding spray brake clean in the adjuster holes and light them on fire the heat works like oxi acetylene turns your 9 1/2 hour day into a 3-4 hour day
6 plus hours of just driving ...not my first rodeo with frozen Vw drums but with the 9k winch on tap and the way i was feeling , the mere sound and time of the impact removing rims was off my radar . Lighting the car on fire , now that next level $hit right there AB 👍
$300 eh? Well there are some decent parts but man, she's as rough as a stucco bathtub. I'd say if you were right next door then $300 would be worth it in spare parts but driving 3 hours to get that and the difficulty in loading it somewhat make it questionable. But honestly after the spares, etc. you should be able to get your money + some back out of it if you decide to sell some of the parts once you've distributed parts out among your other cars that need them. The crappy part is that you probably don't need any of those parts since you got that massive stash a few weeks ago.

@@patrickbrown3135 Mass & Ny have inspections too , that must 👎. We just need a vin check here and a bill of sale . With no previous reg or title , we also need an affidavit from the seller on how they acquired the car . It is one plus for living in CT :).
Ah, Jason buddy, all you need to do is build a 12 car carport along the back edge of your property. Put the 9 cars you own in a line. Tell your wife you can only get 3 more anyway and then it's full up. Adjust for how many cars you do really have :)

1965 - 66 for that one . I bought one worse than that It had no bottom on the tunnel. I got it loaded onto a trailer and i was thinking 'What have I bought" and was saying goodbye to the guy and he said do you want the rest of it? The rest of it ? yes in the garage. There was another one in the garage and it hadn't been advertised but it was included and a pick up load of parts. That has only happened to me once. now they are few and far between.

The Bug came with a free pet spider and excellent ventilation ... :D ... Hey, these older cars need to be saved, even if only for the original old bits. Being a Mini owner, I have seen a lot of older cars rescued just for that reason alone. It may be well beyond a practical restoration, but it still can donate parts to another project. Better than seeing them go for a few dollars worth of scrap.

The tires look good ! ....so I would say reasonable price with all those spares. Might be worth getting another VW enthusiast to sort the body (floorpan) to a rebuild state. If the rest of the car is then mostly mechanical restorations there might be a profit ?. Nice project for someone with a MIG welder and plenty of time on their hands....

5150mxVW Cheap thick cookie sheets with some of that Teflon no stick spray stuff (ask the wife, it goes on cooking pans) might have helped move that little bug. Maybe get 4 and keep them in the truck just in case you need one or all - haha.

All 4 wheels locked up...check. Steering box locked up...check. Got a nasty cold brewing, now you've wasted your energy well into the night...check. This Beetle isn't coming off the trailer until spring. LOL Sea Blue cars sell fast. Put the fenders back on free up the wheels and steering, and move it down the road.

its a 1965 no defrost vents, first year of the bigger windows the wipers park to the left. still has the linkpin front beam. the late 40 hp 1200cc or 1192cc engine is missing but parts are there. as 65 is the last year of the 40 hp. one wide 5 wheel is a 1966-1967 type, one wheel on the car is a late 14 in bus rim the reason why the wheels can be seized the brake drums are rusted solid to the shoes. keep in mind the electrical system in this car is 6 volt if you restore it and go to 12 volt. as 1966 the 40 hp in the US was changed to a one year only engine in the US the 1300cc as 66 has the central defrost vent, the slotted wheels with flat hub caps, the first year for the ball joint axle beam, and the 4 way emergency flashers which u can activate when off the side of the road, slow speeds or stuck behind in traffic with a line of vehicles and malifunctioning traffic light as the flashers can be used when stopped for a school bus unloading and loading kids. i would also check to be sure your frame tunnel is not rusted like i had a 70 bug the tunnel rotted the bottom seperated where the pans attach and was up behind the pedal cluster. thats what you have to look for when buying a bug, Karmanm Ghia, or Thing.
I did not know that about the wipers , I did notice that 66/67 rim ...i'll have to check i didn't notice the bus rim ...and like I mentioned to others I had 4 seized rims , a 9k lb winch and dusk on the horizon so i just dragged it on vs messing with 4 seized drums . Jason, ever tried or used a link pin VW tow bar too load one? Or is your trailer not that long? All in all aside from a donor pan and shock towers : ( their's always somebody looking for parts. It's wasted! I knows the gas cap story though, The original big VW logo ones would fly off in a crash, so VW would replace them when the car came in for service. I'll take the cap off your hands LOL

come on dude its fixable. but better for parts to save the others. The kicker is the body tag. I would save the body tag and pan plate for one of the others that dont same year if he has any more 65s.
@@mikethepainter I'm normally pretty optimistic about what can get fixed, but this one just based on the video seems particularly bad. It could be fixed, and the right person might, but I personally don't think it's worth it. It does have a body tag though and a '65 is an interesting year so who knows...

@@mikethepainter I'll watch it. I'm of the opinion that everything can be fixed. I personally wouldn't fix that one, but for someone with a connection to a '65 it could be the right car. It's like my bus, I doubt anyone else would fix it, but I have a connection to it. If you can get the patch panels and can weld, then the car should be fixed, it just has to be done by someone that wants to see it fixed.
IF you can restore that you can claim miracle man if the century! That is, if your wife doesn't "crown" you first.
just gotta say... bring a tire iron with a flat blade end a big sledge 3/4" socket big breaker bar brake clean and a lighter rip the tires off pound em with the drums with a hammer attempt getting them off if they don't break free in the first 2 minutes of pounding spray brake clean in the adjuster holes and light them on fire the heat works like oxi acetylene turns your 9 1/2 hour day into a 3-4 hour day
6 plus hours of just driving ...not my first rodeo with frozen Vw drums but with the 9k winch on tap and the way i was feeling , the mere sound and time of the impact removing rims was off my radar . Lighting the car on fire , now that next level $hit right there AB 👍

$300 eh? Well there are some decent parts but man, she's as rough as a stucco bathtub. I'd say if you were right next door then $300 would be worth it in spare parts but driving 3 hours to get that and the difficulty in loading it somewhat make it questionable. But honestly after the spares, etc. you should be able to get your money + some back out of it if you decide to sell some of the parts once you've distributed parts out among your other cars that need them. The crappy part is that you probably don't need any of those parts since you got that massive stash a few weeks ago.

Ah, Jason buddy, all you need to do is build a 12 car carport along the back edge of your property. Put the 9 cars you own in a line. Tell your wife you can only get 3 more anyway and then it's full up. Adjust for how many cars you do really have :)
