      Jacob Mccoy you don’t. For the DSG you have nothing to worry about under stage 3. For the manual gearbox, usually stage two lasts quite a while on the stock clutch. It’s a big debate. Mine lasted 37000 miles at apr stage 2+ with a TCU stage 2 tune as well. Once it started slipping I upgraded it. I was at 327hp and 413tq at the wheels.

    In my management class they had a chart and a couple pages about how to make a purchasing decision. It used cars as an example and the golf won. Just the best middle ground on so many points. Economical comfortable and sporty. Cheap to insure reliable great fuel economy huge boot and able to hual the family and the dog.

      get the autobahn trim, and manual trans. the DSG's good but very boring to drive day to day.

    • @Kamukix
      @Kamukix 7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Haha, different strokes. I think the exact opposite for the DSG. I think it's perfect for the day to day drive. I didn't like the very long gears in the manual trans. If they were as short as the DSG though, then I'd have bought it this time (my mk6 was DSG as well, but all of the others were manual before then).
      I especially love the ability to drive it hard whenever I feel like driving, and being able to pop it over into commute mode so I can just creep through the traffic with minimal effort (or those drives that you really just don't feel like it lol). Both are very good options though, and I'd have been happy with either one if I couldn't have found the other for a reasonable price.
      Pound for pound, I don't think there is another car out there (new) that you can buy that's a better all around car. The Focus ST is probably 2nd spot in this for me after spending significant time living with both.

    • @1gsrtom
      @1gsrtom 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      TheMetalGuy852 The Focus ST has a lot of issues , I got one of those with the wiring harness problem which fucks with all kinds of driveablity issues , the PVC system is terrible u have to physically clean your intake valves every 3,000 miles cause the oil and carbon will start to cake up on the valve stem. Then right when the 36000 mile. warranty was up I started getting a random misfire code and that was the final straw.
      I ended up trading it in for a 2016 GTI Autobahn w/pp DSG and it's been great , I was going to get a stick but they say the clutch won't hold up very long after a tune. The DSG is nice and it's faster than my ST , plus feels a lot lighter than the ST too, and the GTI is definitely a better all around car ... and we all the performance potential.

    Small complaint. I hate in review videos when people say things like "the acceleration is brutal"
    No.... its not. It doesnt even make 300whp. So lets be realistic. While the mk7 is fine for what it is, lets all realize that its actually slow as hell. I sold my stage 2 M4 for my GTI until the market comes down for something cheap and I legit thought something was wrong with it when I first bought it cause it was so damn slow. The HP power band is approx 25+/- above what it is above stock. The torque is about the same as that increase as well percentage wise. It is a negligable gain that is more psychologically noticeable than actually noticeable. With the DSG tuning, I would say that that difference in gear shifting keeps the engine at the "meat & potatoes" of the power band more so than the improved HP alone is doing. The AP units are now just over $1K (US) now....I would just opt for a Mishimoto IC and call it a day, just to replace the standard Tube/Fin IC. This way, you can stay out of heat soak when you really want to push it.

    • @lakeland6798

I live in West Virginia and bought a 2016 wrx and it is still stock and I do love the car especially in the snow because we sometimes get quite a lot so I was looking into a golf r but still a bit to out of my price range and also I love manual idk if I could get a dsg even tho it is pretty flawless

    • @maperformance
      @maperformance  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The GTI isn't bad at all. Very light car with front wheel drive just floats right over it. Although, not as good as the WRX! We have had a pretty light winter in MN so hard to say with the GTI...

    • @Kamukix
      @Kamukix 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I've had no problems with either my mk7 GTi or my mk6 GLi in the snow/ice in Delaware. I run winter tires on my cars (which everyone should honestly do regardless of drive wheels if you have cold temps in winter), and they handle awesome in that weather, and there hasn't been a single thing to get me stuck. I've run both Bridgestone Blizzak tires and Hankook iCept Evo's to try them both out. The Blizzak being a strictly cold weather snow tire is better in the snow, but doesn't handle as well (NOT bad) when it's above 45-50 degrees. The Hankook tire was a winter performance tire meant to be stiffer compared to a traditional winter tire, so it does very well in the snow, but does exceptionally well when the temp does exceed 45-50 degrees.
      Both tires are hilariously better than any all season or summer tire once the temps drop below 50 degrees for any length of time whether there is snow or not. :)

      @jetbike97 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Kamukix thanks for the response ! I've been heavily looking into it but my wrx only has 10k miles on it so I believe I'm going to order the accessport and intake through map and run it for awhile and see how I like it because I do love the looks of my car and do love hooning it in the snow

    • @Kamukix
      @Kamukix 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      jetbike97 not a bad plan, they're very good cars, much better (except for the sound haha) than the previous models. I test drove the new model before I bought the GTi, and I think the WRX has come a very long way interior wise even though it's not nearly the VW level, it's still a MUCH better place to be than the 2013 which felt like I was still driving the 90's model with more power haha.
      I wouldn't be sad if I were you, you've got a very good car, also I love that new steering wheel. It felt GREAT in my hands (the shape is more flat on the sides than the GTi and GLi which are also amazing wheels). I've got 35k on my GTi now and had just about 100k on my GLi. No issues, but I've never had issues with my cars anyway (had quite a few haha)

      All the flow mods. Start with a short ram intake. NOT the Cobb because it is pricey. You can find a nice aluminum intake for ~350. A downpipe (cats nor not, depends on your state emissions) and bigger intercooler core. Get a pro tune and you'll be blown away.
