A house like this usually means that an elderly person passed away without any family members close enough to clean out their belongings. Happens fairly often when children move away and leave elderly parents behind. If an abandoned house doesn't cause a stir in the community and the property taxes are paid no one will care and the house will probably continue to deteriorate.

I think you’re correct.. It’s amazing when a elderly family member dies and family ransack their home and leave what isn’t worth anything... Makes me sick,... a person lived their, got up everyday for work etc and lived their life and this is what’s left.... makes me so sad! Idk if that makes sense but I worked at home hospice for awhile and while my patients were sick, scared of dying, never did I see a family member... only saw after death to ransack their home... 😢😢😢

This seems likely to me based on the posters found (looks like something a teen might have had, or college student maybe, in the late 90s,) which would place the "kids" as GenX in terms of age. you could totally have an issue where the kids have moved away and aging parent(s) pass away suddenly, etc.

No, that's a cistern. A reservoir to store water. Not every house had a good supply of water, or a well. They'd collect the rain water off the roof and have it go into the cistern for domestic use. Note that the hot water heater next to it has a hose going over the wall into the cistern.

WoW! So many items recognizable from the 60's on up to the early 80's. The old wall can opener, old blender, camera flash, old stereo equipment, old tube tv, old speaker, shag rug, adding machine, and so many other kitchen appliances, etc. Many items I've held onto since way back then. So groovy seeing this time capsule frozen in time. I can't imagine how kool it was for you young-uns seeing all those vintage items. Checking out the types of books in these places can give you an indication of the personality of whom may have resided in the home. Obviously this house hasn't been upgraded since the early 70's. How the world has changed since way back then. And I'm not sure it has all been for the betterment of mankind, in my opinion. Sadly. Thanks for sharing this video. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The house looked like it was built before the 60's. Upstairs was not an attic it is called a story & a 1/2 house. The light from the floor to ceiling is called a pole lamp. The mallet with the long handle is from a croquet set. When you open something up close it back up, it's called respect to leave things as you found them.

What you called a large thermos is almost accurate. After preheating it with hot water you dump out the water and pour in hot coffee. Close the lid and then push the large button on top to dispense coffee. It usually kept coffee hot for a few hours. It was used for picnic's or if you just didn't want your coffee to keep cooking and get nasty after awhile.

She couldn't afford to pay the mortgage on the house it wasn't safe to return to and pay rent elsewhere. Her husband who abused her and the children, was listed on the mortgage papers so had a say as to whether it could be sold. He refused to authorize the sale of the place. His family lived next door and my relation didn't feel safe returning there. She already owned the house when she met him. She eventually just let the bank take it with content's. I went there with her a few times to retrieve things that she needed. She was afraid to go on her own because her husband had attacked her on the property once when she returned there alone. Those kinds of situations do happen.
