I am a professional driver and my boss who sits next to me in the passenger seat has helped me many many times by being a second observer. The term Backseat Driver has been given a bad rap over the years as someone that is interfering when in reality actually helps the driver by seeing everything around them. When I am driving I am generally focused on what is in front of me and always do my best to also focus on what is next to me and behind me. But many times things occur in a split second and having someone that can have attention on basically every other situation that I can’t see is a life saver. I am 65 and have been driving for a living all of my adult life and even before! (I have had driving jobs since I was 15) I had more tickets and incidents when I was driving alone vs with a passenger like the last 27 years. (No tickets or incidents in 27 years) All hail the Backseat Drivers

My Grandmother or as we called her Nanny was from Ireland back in the 70's she lived with her two sisters all were widows. None of them had ever got their license to drive but we lived in Philly and they always took PT to get to work or the places they had to go.. Every Sunday my Mom took us over there to visit and everytime we went over Lawrence Welk was on. For every family function or church during the holidays someone had to go pick all three of them up and they were the worst backseat drivers. They had never driven in their lives but told you how to get everywhere you took them. Unfortunately I wasn't aware of this until I was old enough to drive and my Mom would tell me to go pick up your Nanny and your two Aunts. BTW the family joke is that we all called the three sisters The Three Blind Mice and I got that joke after I started to go pick them up because they had no clue where they were telling you to drive.

My Grandmother or as we called her Nanny was from Ireland back in the 70's she lived with her two sisters all were widows. None of them had ever got their license to drive but we lived in Philly and they always took PT to get to work or the places they had to go.. Every Sunday my Mom took us over there to visit and everytime we went over Lawrence Welk was on. For every family function or church during the holidays someone had to go pick all three of them up and they were the worst backseat drivers. They had never driven in their lives but told you how to get everywhere you took them. Unfortunately I wasn't aware of this until I was old enough to drive and my Mom would tell me to go pick up your Nanny and your two Aunts. BTW the family joke is that we all called the three sisters The Three Blind Mice and I got that joke after I started to go pick them up because they had no clue where they were telling you to drive.
