  • Join us in this gripping episode of Urban Valor as we listen about the life of Paul Peng, an Army veteran with a remarkable story! Born in Taiwan and raised in Monterey Park, CA, Paul enlisted as an Army reservist military police officer in 2000, never anticipating active combat. However, the events of 9/11 altered his path, leading to two combat deployments in Iraq.
Paul recounts his intense experiences, from managing a prison camp amid riots and harrowing incidents among inmates to taking command of a facility once used as one of Saddam Hussein’s torture chambers. He shares the profound challenges of readjusting to civilian life after his tours, offering a raw, unfiltered look at the sacrifices made by those who serve.
Tune in to hear Paul's powerful journey and the lessons he carries with him today.

I think I deployed with Paul. Just different unit. There when he was at Bucca. And he goes to UCR. So much love to a fellow NCO from here. Can you get me a link to Paul’s company?

If someone came into your home and kidnapped you and your family and held them for months, because they didn't like someone else in your neighborhood, how upset would you be? Would you be mad enough to riot?

I really enjoy hearing the perspectives of the soldiers, marines, navy, & Air Force during/Post 9/11.
Please continue to keep that topic in your interviews if they served during 2001.
I feel like nobody can tell a better perspective on the matter when they served during that period of time.

I don't know who my daddy is... when I look at my old man's unit photo bacdropped by Southern pines! I just a bunch sick looking, stoic white men in BUDs.
My dad said Drill Sergeants could use language in the early 1990s that they could not say today.

Paratrooper, Desert Storm. I had scud missiles hit so close that I felt the building rock!! I went straight to m.o.p.p level four. Come to find out those scud missiles had anthrax payloads! I'm still paying the price that comes with serving your country during war. Airborne, my friend! All the way! MPs are so badass! Especially the Airborne MPs that were at fort Bragg. 503rd MP battalion Airborne are superb paratroopers and military police officers! Thank you for your service my friend! All the way!

Seems like you deployed exactly when I did. How cool is that??!! I work for RTA that runs to UCR. Small world. Bro, when we got there by commercial jet and convoyed to Camp Bucca then BIAP before Diyala Province. We literally had NO armor for our vehicles even. We made our own armor. Man you hit it on the head. They don’t shoot you. They blow you up.

Look i totally support and appreciate our military veterans and after listening to your story and to hear you say that you contemplated suicide about twice a year blew my mind because I've never served. Lived a pretty normal life and i contemplate suicide 2 to 3 times a month for the last 15 years or so and im 42 and dont mistake this as me bragging about it but twice a year seriously???

I was in the PX barber shop on 9/11 they had just turned the TV on after the first plane struck. After my haircut the second plane hit, then I quickly reported to my unit because I knew everything had changed.
