When I got back into my art this past year and wanted to start tattooing (after learning in prison in the late 2000's) I bought a kit online and started consuming tattoo media. It was a video I watched from Pony that really convinced me that I needed to put the machine down and pick up my pencil. Now I'm putting a portfolio together to get an apprenticeship and do this right. I want to be in a place with other artists and really grow.
On the KvD copyright case, one of the deciding factors for the jury was that she wasn't paid as it was on a friend so there was no financial benefit or transaction. I think we'll see more copyright issues in the future regarding tattooing, will be interesting to see how it pans out.
You are wrong on the copyright laws and your music examples. You cant sell covers of songs. Its considered reproduction. Most studios dont sue if you dont "sell" the cover, but it is illegal. Most statues are public domain, and old stuff too
