    The Stillwater Correctional Facility in Minnesota has a tattoo apprentice/school program. I've always said that a program like this should be in place at most prisons, keeps men out of prison when they come home, gives them a career and a foundation, I know some good tattooers that came out of the big bitch. The last 3 tattooers that tattooed me came out of prison.....and yes before you roll your eyes about the quality of work just know that I have a ton of work by Chris Garver and Seth Wood, so they might not be at their level now or never (maybe) but they have some serious skills. I'm in Shake City

    36:00 Art of Reese, yep. She’s always preaching about how much money she makes and then she can travel, etc spend time with her dog, have crazy business growth, attracting “soul clients”, I remember being shocked seeing her apprenticeship program for $7000. And yeah all the crazy expensive courses for tattoo business coaching, the retreats now - I hope no one’s falling for it. Stop giving scammers your moneyyyy

    Love when artists who do tattoos forget that art is subjective. Just like cars. Just like fashion. Just like jewelry. Just like hair. Just like food. Just like anything in life, people have different tastes. I’ve been a huge part of the scene up and coming and it has way more passion and culture surrounding it than most art these days. All forms of art have something to offer. In a world where everything is ultra-fabricated and too perfect, adding something countercultural to the mix is always necessary for life to have soul. Please evolve your way of thinking. You don’t have to want it or like it, but expressing it in this way is exactly what the world needs less of. I have work from OUTSTANDING famous artists and it’s shit that has healed phenomenally over the years. Yet, it’s not my thing. Sigilism has replaced the tone that grunge LA script was doing by mixing multiple layers and elements of Baroque and Brutalist artistry from Europe architecture and makes it into a sub neo-tribal artwork. Art is about form and feeling. Not about perfectionism.

    Re: The all female shops. They serve a purpose. They cater to clients that are seeking these places out. There is a not insignificant number of people out there who will pay for this experience. They are popping up all over the place and they are making money. Some women treat it as a spa day, no husbands/boyfriends, no kids, no doods hitting on them. Just a day to themselves around women, relaxing, spending money. Some women who have been through SA events want a male free space to get tattoos. They have money to spend. Rainbow mafia folx spend tons of money on body mods. Trans people spend buckets of money on mods. Why not provide them a safe space to spend their money? Safe space / women only shops is just good marketing.

      an all male shop has a purpose too. they cater to clients who need a space away from all those women with bad attitudes and cause drama. those men see it as a relaxing day. some men have been bitched out and want a female free space. they have money to spend. dudes, bros, and straight guys spend loads of money. why not give them a safe space to do it?

    "bro you should go find a real apprenticeship", like paid apprenticeship scams arent super common in the industry, lol. I think blaming the victim is super interesting when in the community its common for "deposits", sure you might think 50% upfront is a lot but the rhetoric in tattooing is about "investing in your craft" so I can see how someone with a large rep and is looked up to in the community would be seen as "trustworthy" its not like they were a tweaker at the biker shop down the road. I guess I shouldnt be surprised coming from doomer Gabe tho, he always has the most criticism to dish out without much construction.

    Everyone has their own way of approaching things. It doesn’t mean that the passion isn’t there. The form of art comes in many different forms. I’m sure older artists no matter the type of artist didn’t surround themselves tons of people before they released something amazing to the world. I believe most artists create the best art when they’re in their own thought process, it just so happens that it’s usually when they’re alone.Jon,Matt, and Gabe I absolutely love your podcast guys very interesting topics

    I can do realism portraits nearly perfect. But when i pick up my tattoo machine to practise it looks like a toddler used it. Also, on Apprenticeships, ive been to every shop in my town. Its HEAVILY gate kept. New people go free range because we're all told by these people not expect anything for 5 years and grind. I taught myself programming and can run multi million dollar machines. Challenge accepted then. I'll do it myself.

      @JustinReidTattoos 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You can learn by yourself. But nothing will replace learning from someone with many years of experience. People want an easy answer to a hard question. It’s not easy to get an apprenticeship. It’s not easy to be a professional tattooer. But if you want it bad enough you will figure out how to manage it.
