My Mom had a 72, Plymouth Satellite Sebring with a 318 automatic transmission. It was gold in color, and she loved that car. That distinct buzz of the starter after she cracked it up brings back memories. Rest in peace Mom,I love you and you great taste in cars.
Terry Thompson Hi Terry, thanks for your patience. A 68 Firebird would take 3-4 quarts of Primer, 5-6 quarts of Paint and 3-4 quarts of Clear. If you have any other questions about preparation or application, don't hesitate to call 800.247.3270. Good luck on your project!
as far as my investigation so far, this is about the only option for a diy, when you talk about urethane (2k) the job becomes professional, as in hazardous and needing a professional paint booth and protective gear. to this guys credit he did cover his clothing and had a home made booth. He probably is using a smaller compressor, not a pro setup which explains the narrow spay patterns. I used dupli color spray cans for a test and was amazed at the color quality, 1k clear especially lacquer needs to be sanded and polished to get a glass shine. I saw a guy do a comparison with urethane and lacquer switching from pro booth to back yard and at first it looked like night and day, then he polished the lacquer and it looked just as good, of course the durability wont match long term, but for a diy it can work! also, be sure to seal and have a uniform primer or it will affect and show through the paint and take more coats to try to hide.
Can you do a video on a galaxy paint job. Im trying to do this to my galaxy si. Im just not sure of how to go about it or if it will even work with this paint. Please let me know.
Assuming your point is to sell this duplicolor paint shop idea to us, it would be great if you told us what gun system you are using. Looks like a gravity fed hvlp but is it turbine or compressor? If turbine, what stage is it? If compressor, what pressure ? What tip/capset is in the gun? Did you change the tip or anything else between primer. base and clear. Too many questions unanswered. We are left with a guy painting a car !
I used the midnight blue on my 91 5.0 mustang and it took 4 cans of primer, 8 cans of paint and 4 cans of clear. it still did not cover well even after 2 gallons of paint! and I am very upset with this product. for the price I spent on it I could have just bought a better paint! 16 cans x 23.00 a piece = 370.00 and will be starting over.
I'm new to paint shop. I'm currently using brilliant silver as my base coat. Weirdly there is no color on my surface. The paint looks my like a clear coat. No color at all. What am I doing wrong?
+Eric Mendoza Hi Eric, thanks for your question. It looks like it's about 12 feet wide x 10 feet tall x 15 feet long. You'll want to make sure you have enough room to freely move around the car with all of your equipment.
I saw a guy at the paint store used this stuff and he had to strip it all off. didnt stick. Duplicolor is ok for a spot paint on something you dont care about that much but as an overall there are better products out there. even as a base. Not for me.
@@Mikefngarage yep this stuff is crap. I finished my car just to realize I have to redo it. I’m beyond upset about it. I spent years doing body work on a 71 super beetle. Biggest mistake of my life putting this cheapo product over all that work. Lesson learned
Not to mention I got a drip of gas on my fender at the gas station. Instantly burned right into the clear. Not only was the paint a mistake. But the clear even more so. Years ago I just used the paint with out the clear. It was crap but I would give a quick wet sand and buff over that and could make it look new agin. The paint actually buffs nicely. This clear buffs horribly and doesn’t protect the paint from anything. I think it’s actually more susceptible to damage than the paint anyway. What a waste of extra time doing the clear. Months later you would find a leaf on your car wipe it off and there’s a permanent leaf mark in the clear. Honestly wtf
I tried this paint and couldn’t get coverage it was like spraying colored water I put about 5 coats and could still see threw to the primer, I even went to a different store to buy some more paint but same problem, it’s just hard to get paint when your not a professional painter
I also have some questions, Im wanting to order the midnight blue kit, for my 1987 olds cutlass 2door, I want to have the metallic look, do I need to use the mid coat for that paint?, and also how many quarts of primer/paint/clear will I need for that vehicle? thanks
swaggedoutwun Hi, thanks for your question. Our paint shop Midnight Blue is not a metallic. If you would like a Metallic effect, you would need to use Metallic Clear (BSP301) over it. You may also be interested in our Prism Mutli-Clear Coat (BSP302), for a rainbow metallic effect. The paint shop product is only available in quarts and approximately 2-4 quarts of each product will be needed, depending on the spray technique and size of the vehicle. If you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to call 800-247-3270. Thank you and good luck with your project!
+swaggedoutwun I'm interested in the midnight blue and can't seem to find a video of the finished job for comparison to my factory color LOL. Also considering mixing Midnight Blue with Deep Blue for a dark blue color. This may be a solution to your metallic preference before using the mid coat clear. Any thoughts or suggestions, hit me up.
How do you determine how many quarts to paint a car? Say A Vw passat wagon, or a Toyota truck/ext cab, basic coat of paint to cover the vehicle. I dont want to do several coats just quick and to cover car/truck evenly? Any suggestions would help! Thank you!
hey Todd!!!!! They didn’t scuff or sand or wet sand a mf thing I’m just like wtf, I bought some of the primer an used it it worked pretty good for what I saw but I sanded an wet sanded on it tho
You don't need to sand between coats... That's something an idiot who loves wasting time and customers money for nothing would do... Haven't you heard of wet on wet? Obviously not
@@tyrel6732 maybe he means in between primer to base, in that case wouldn't you sand your primer before spraying the base to get a flat smooth finish and take out any imperfections in the primer? I'm new to autobody & paint and learning fyi.
Last time i painted my car with Duplicolor.......i ended up calling them and screaming.....they were very nice, and even sent me a replacement for everything i used without me asking them to.......but they sent me garbage to replace the garbage. I know its hard to find auto paint, seeing as they only carry this crap at most places, but make the long drive to a REAL auto paint store, and buy real paint. Theres a reason it costs more, because it works. Painting your kids wagon?.....a bike frame? sure use it. its cheap . But never use on a car. I had a small panel that was cured for over a year....a year....primer base and clear/.....and i tossed it in a bucket of gas, and ALL of it wiped away with a rag after just a few hours
People watching this, please dont spray clearcoat like that! Especially the roof. If you do what this guy does, it will look like you used gravel guard on the roof. You need to be about a hands span away from your panels, and move faster. I think the spray guns arent set up right eigher. He was spraying the primer with about a 3" fan pattern. Either to small a tip in his gun for that primer, or he didnt wind out the fan.
Splash are you a painter I've got a 71 satellite Sebring I'm thinking of painting back Bahama yellow (a Chrysler corporation color) stock on various mopars advice?
Aziz Lamar How many coays of colour really depend on how good the colour gets coverage. Yellow usually is hard to get good coverage. Its very transparent. I recomend a light grey or white primer or sealer to start with. Usually around 3 coats will get good coverage on most colours. You want to make sure you have enough colour, so you dont see through it once its out in the sun. Clear is usually 2 or 3 coats. Put your first coat on medium wet, go for shine on your second coat. If it doesnt look right or you want more clear, for wet sanding later, put a third coat.
I would assume you two are employees of Duplicolor?? If so why the hell did they not give you a better spray both. And if your not and you work on cars all the time why don't you have a better spray both?

how many quarts of each did you use to do the whole car?

How many cans did you use
Is it white primer or grey?

It’s lacquer
what is the name the last coats that you used
It's the Metallic Clear Coat (BSP301): www.duplicolor.com/product/paint-shop-automotive-lacquer-finish-system
